Strength:

Comfort, quiet, handling, AWD capability, four corner suspension, luxury inside and out. Lots of extras.

Weakness:

Gas Mileage and Interior wear.

Saw this SUV and loved it immediately. Stylish and Sporty. Although there were a few issues at first, all and all it has been bullet proof. The truck was bought with every option available for the V6 model. We love the handling and comfort of this vehicle on long trips. We would like to get more MPG, I think we expected more from a VW, but it is worth it for the luxury and characteristics of the vehicle. Would definately buy another!! This SUV is highly sought after in our area.

Strength:

Appeal (exterior and interior)

Weakness:

Tire wear,
Brake pad, perhaps rotor wear,
Low fuel economy

We procured this vehicle because of its great looks. From the onset the fuel economy was way below the marketed and expected level despite our easy touch to the pedals (gas & brake). At 14,000 miles the service informed us that tires and brake pads need to be replaced within next 2000 to 4000 miles meaning required component replacement at less than half the total miles expected based on our driving experience from previously owned 4WD and AWD SUV's. The wear on tires / brake components and the low fuel economy points to a problem in the power/drive train mechanization. This performance is not acceptable and VW should recall this vehicle.

Strength:

Overall look and performance of the V8 is excellent for an SUV. Basically, a less expensive version of the Porche Cayenne.

Weakness:

Mechanical, electrical and wear and tear issues. Tire pressure warning system is useless, 3 of 5 interior wood panel cracked, interior controls lose paint, transaxel replaced, etc. etc. VW's bumper-to-bumper warranty isn't really 'bumper-to-bupmer.' Premature interior parts failure is expected by VW for this 'luxury' class vehicle. Warranty and service doesn't match true luxury services from Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, etc.

I'm a 3x VW owner and the Touareg is my last. Sure it looks good and is fun to drive, but the quality doesn't hold up to 'luxury' class standards. I've had numerous mechanical, electrical and wear and tear issues, and the tires only lasted 20K miles.

Strength:

Power, handling, comfort, quality materials. AWD system works fabulous in snow that I commonly drive in. This car will go anywhere, anytime. This puppy will go past 100 so fast it's amazing.

Weakness:

Hard to find oil filter, original tires, tons of electronics...literally more than is needed. Mileage is not great around town, but seems to be 17-18 on the highway at 80+ miles per hour.

This car is one of the most satisfying cars to drive, I've owned. After 48,000+ miles, I have had almost no trouble with the car. It may have too many gadgets for its own good, but they all seem to work fairly well. The tire pressure sensors are very sensitive, but at least they do work.

The engine is marvelous and provides truly sporting response and acceleration. The 50/50 weight balance provides the best handling for any SUV I've ever seen. It can truly be tossed around without much chance of anything getting out of hand.

The driving position is excellent and overall comfort is tremendous. Air suspension is worth its weight in gold. I shut off the automatic seat movement when turning the car off, as it isn't helpful at all.

No radio problems and it has excellent sound quality. Seems to get better the longer I use it.

Brakes are good at higher speeds, but too sensitive at slow speeds. Because of the way the transmission downshifts when slowing, the brakes change their boost level. Understand there is a reprogramming fix for the odd transmission shift patterns, which I am going to have done soon.

Overall, it's a great car. Yes, the original tires wore out quickly, but the Michelin replacements have been excellent with more than 30,000 miles on them now.

Strength:

This car is so much fun to drive that I want to get another even though I've been to the service center so many times that they know my name. The interior And exterior are beautiful. The drivability is unsurpassed.

Weakness:

It has too many things that break down. The tires wear out too soon and the design of the disk breaks makes repair unrealistically expensive,

I love driving this car. It's the best looking SUV on the market (even the big Lexus). But I owned 6 Bugs and 3 Rabbit convertibles and their simplicity was their beauty,

The complexity of this car results in constant visits to the dealer. You start to dread the message and alarm from the dashboard.

In this day we expect developmental problems, but I keep looking around and want another Tuareg (sp) but I don't want to change the tires every 30,000 miles and I changed the front brakes at 35000 and it cost me $800.00. I am approaching 50,000 miles and must trade it in because I don't want to pay for all the defects.

Air suspension system has gone, twice. I'm going blank on other defects that have been fixed under warranty, but I love this car and have to let it go,

Awesome tow platform. Incredible quiet ride. Power.

Weakness:

Eats tires. Only complaint we had was the OEM tires were "sports" oriented and too soft: didn't last 12,000 miles. I replaced them with "real" tires and after 10,000 miles I cannot tell they've worn at all.

Tires (the original Pirellis) have been a big gripe for a lot of owners. The root problem is that the V-8 equipped Touareg has a top speed of 145, so theoretically you have to put a Z-rated tire on it, that are also rated for the Touareg's GVWR. The Touareg is very unique in its GVWR and top speed combination and the tire manufacturers haven't caught up to it yet. I think only Pirelli makes a tire that satisfies both requirements, but the Pirellis only last 12-15,000 miles. Screw that. My replacements were top of the line Bridgestones, but I only got H-rated tires (<135 mph).

Other than short tire life with the OEM Pirellis, we've had the car 23,000 miles and except for routine service its never been in the shop. Absolutely trouble free. I'd buy another one tomorrow. If I ever get back into the big-bucks I'll probably get the V-10 diesel.

We love the car!

Great speed for 5,500lb SUV. 0-60 7.4s and hits speeds over 100mph with ease, and it handles very well at high speeds. Breaks are great and work well wet or dry slow of fast. Six Speed Transmission is great. Sport mode is awesome. Great for passing or just having some fun on the highway. Can tow up to 7,700lbs, amazing off road ability. Great Sound system. And an great Audi 4.2L 310hp V8 engine. 11.0:1 Compression ratio. This truck can move! Differential locks and low range 4x4 motion.

Weakness:

MPG. Way I drive I get 12-13mpg a tank at best, the average person might get 14-15mpg. Samll problems which are common in VW and most German cars.

This SUV is amazing. I love this truck. Great car all around. Great ride. I love it because it is a VW it does not say hey look I have an expensive car even though it is one. Drives like a sport sedan, but handles like a truck when you need it to. Interior is great, lots of technology. All I do is get compliments about this SUV

Am very happy with this vehicle. Have 44k miles on her. It handles and accelerates like a sports sedan. Have the Premium Package. The leather is wonderful. Had to replaced the Continental tires at 17k miles. Put top of the line Michelins on and they are great. I have not had any problems other than the factory tires
