Toyota Highlander (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Highlander is Toyota’s car-based midsize SUV, built on a unibody platform with 4-wheel independent suspension. The Highlander offers a tight, quiet ride like a midsize sedan with the higher ride height, available 4-wheel drive, and cargo capacity of a midsize SUV.

The Highlander scores high for its refinement, quiet interior, ride comfort, and flexible and roomy second-row seat. Its 3.5-liter V6 delivers solid performance and 18 mpg overall. The third-row seat is tight and does not fold in a 50/50 split. A new 2.7-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic is available on FWD models.

I have owned 3 SUV's and the Highlander is by far the nicest of the 3. I hear people say they are over priced, but what your getting is about 80% Lexus RX 300 for $10-$12 less. I think it's a steal. Most people buy SUV's and never go off road, but they do use them in snow. The Highlander is perfect for snow and ice. It rides like my wife's Acura T.L. and not like a truck. The gas mileage is great. I get about 18-20 town--21-24 HY. All in all I think Toyota hit a grand slam with this SUV. I was thinking of buying a Acura MDX but all the dealer's were asking $4-$5 thousand over MSRP. That's just crazy, their nice cars, but not that nice.

Strength:

Size is pretty good, looks are fair

Weakness:

Having to buy a vehicle in Texas or any other state serviced by Gulf States Toyota. We also bought a Lexus RX300, which came in at the same price after the "Required" options put on before the vehicle reached out dealer. Someone should sue Gulf States Toyota for anti-trust. They have taken all the value out of owning a Toyota!!

Good vehicle, but we will probably lose our shirts since we get new vehicles every year. The options we didn't want cost us a fortune, but we liked the way the vehicle handled.

I'm rating the value as poor because of the price/unwanted options (pinstriping, "protection package" (what kind of rip-off is that!), fender flares, wheel locks, window etching, etc... totally bogus ad-on-drive up the price options). The overall rating is high because I really like the vehicle if you take the dealers/regional distributors out of the picture.

Strength:

The biggest selling points are the HP, this SUV will really get up and go!!
ALso rides very comfortable and quiet. I like the shift lever where it is.
Also recommend the center console. Seats recline waaay back. PLenty of storage space.

Weakness:

PRICE!!!!!!!

I can only tell you this is one fine SUV!!!
I know the MDX has 3 rows of seats, and they make you pay for it. The MDX and the Lexus are really in a different price range.
But sit around and wait a while before you buy, Toyota is EXTREMELY PROUD of this vehicle right now. Prices will come down eventually.
I have owned a Toyota Camry and still own a Sienna. Excellent vehicles!

Weakness:

I really have found none.

This is our 4th SUV and it by far is the nicest. All the other ones we've owned after a while they feel like over weight gas sucking garbage trucks. The Highlander is eveything we wanted in an SUV. Great ride, handling, space, gas mpg, and looks. We took ours off road camping and it was amazing. We went through streams, 5 miles of dirt and rock roads and it was great. We looked @ the MDX but it was too wide and there was a lot of wind noise on the highway, and it didn't handle as well as the Highlander. And all the dealers are asking $4-$5 thousand over MSRP. What a joke. We just trading in a 1999 Jeep GCL for the Highlander and what a difference. I knew the service manager @ Jeep by first name. I must have made 10-12 trips to have that SUV fixed. It would take 1/2 hr to cover everything. It sounds like good old Lou in Pa, isn't even a HL. owner. Some Jeep owners like to trash other SUV's,I think it's because they made a hugh mistake and are very pissed and are stuck with a $30k lemon. Anybody that likes to ski, go camping, fishing this is a great SUV. Believe me you don't really need that low gear that most SUV's have, that's for some serious off roading.

This is a very nice car, has a smooth ride, nice ac, nice new style, good interior

Weakness:

the price. this is just too much to pay for a toyota when u could purchase the MDX for a few hundred dollars more, and the mdx is a much better vehicle

Test drove both cars, and decided because they both had similar options, and the price difference wasnt much, the acura was the better deal
