Sean - Subject aftermarket leather Your email address doesn''t accept a reply, so here''s the answer to your question. Sean, I found out about this leather option from the Toyota dealers that I visited. Each dealer told me that they had a custom shop that they dealt with to do the work. The custom shop that the dealer I bought the car from hooked me up with Classic Soft Trim here in Baltimore, MD. (see the web site URL) http://www.classicsofttrim.com If you go to their web site you''ll see that they have locations all across the US. I made a visit to the shop that was going to do the work and they showed me the process and the quality of the leather that would be used. It is actually a kit, they remove the cloth seat covers and replace them with a high quality leather set, custom made for the Highlander. They are not zip on covers, they clamp on the seat frames just like the Toyota factory would apply leather. They even installed seat heaters for your butt and your back for additional cost. If you look up the Highlander on their site, the sample picture that you see is exactly how the seat will look. I paid the dealer $850, full Retail is approx $1,100 - $1,200. They put leather on the door panels, front and back seats, front seat arm rests, and all head rests. It is truly a 1st class job, as good as, or better than the look in a Highlander ''Limited''. This car was for my wife too, she was dead set on leather, but all the extras in the ''Limited'' and the associated costs weren''t necessary. Good luck, hope you have the same success that I did! P.S. The Highlander is EXCELLENT, you''ll love it.! Geoff |

Highlander
Strength:
Smooth ride, great handling and looks. Controls and levers all within easy reach. Unlike most, I like the front seat cupholders (do not have console). Cruise control has kept me from getting many tickets!
Weakness:
Helicopter wind noise with one window down. Has anyone driven theirs in the snow yet? Seems to handle great going up hills and on flat roads, but tends to really push and want to slide on the snow going down hills. I absolutely love this SUV. Test drove it and had to buy it. Have owned since March and have racked up 24,000 miles on it already. Have taken several rode trips in comfort. Similar Products Used: None, didn''t need to try any others!!!!! |

Highlander
Strength:
quiet ride, plenty of power, solid contruction, solid door closing sound, roomy in the back seats even with a tall driver putting the seat back.
Weakness:
no power seat memory. the controls for windows and door locks on the driver and passenger doors don''t light up at night, and you need tend to fumble around trying to operate them. Both are very minor but easily added in the future by Toyota. Wow!! Superb car! Sticker price $30,012, V6 4x4. Interestly enough, you can''t order a leather interior from Toyota on this model, but I had it added along with seat heaters in the local after-market. After these 2 extras our total cost before taxes was $29,600. Compare this to the cost of a Limited version at a $35,500 sticker. In my opinion, the Limited model has many un-necessary extras. Stiff, tight suspension, handles like a sporty road handling car. Test drove other SUV''s in the same class and above. Most others drove like trucks and were quite noisey. Lexus RX300 was the closest competitor in size, but is considerably more expensive. I''m told that the Highlander is built in the same plant as the RX300 and designed by the same engineer. Compare the specs on the 2 cars and you''ll see there is virtually no difference, other than the Highlander is a bit larger Similar Products Used: Lexus RX300, Mazda Tribute, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4-Runner, Honda CRV, Acura MDX |

Strength:
Smooth ride, nice seats, a lot of space, and most important very light.
Weakness:
Lousy stereo system (I am planning to change mine), long breaking distance. Meanwhile the positive side of this vehicle outweighs the negative side. This is a well-balanced SUV. You could easily maneuver the steering with one finger. Similar Products Used: Jeep Grand Cherokee. |

Strength:
Transmission is smooth; this vehicle glides through gear shifts like no other. Visibility and high driving position are terrific. The V-6 engine is quality as is the interior fabric and fit of all components. The exterior is attractive and access is easy no jumping up to climb into this SUV.
Weakness:
Hard to deal with sales people as this vehicle is a hot item at the moment. You will have to wait 4 months after ordering one with customized option packages. The Toyota Highlander is the perfect vehicle for those who do not need a heavy, gas guzzling 4x4 vehicle. It is smooth, quiet, roomy, and comfortable. The option including lumbar support for the driver''s seat is a must for those who drive for long freeway stretches. I am truly amazed at the quality of this SUV which truly deserves high marks. |

Strength:
220 hp engine VSC option smooooooth ride 6k less than RX 300 (which I also considered) better gas mileage compared to other SUVs Toyota quality all the way
Weakness:
popping/clicking noise in sunroof area deafening wind noise when rear windows are open no memory on seats--All these are very minor complaints. Hope toyota comes up with a fix. Excellent vehicle. I was on the waiting list for 7 months with the MDX.I finally gave up and got a fully equipped HL V6 AWD Ltd.,leather, side bags, heated seats{love this feature},VSC,SR,tow prep, etc. Feels more like a luxury car. Similar Products Used: test drove and seriously considered: MDX: nice,Honda quality,3rd row seats, but wait time is ridiculous+ pay MSRP or more Nissan PF LE: Great SUV,but body style has remained the same for years. Toyota Highlander V6 ltd
Strength:
Excellent cross-over SUV/sedan. Powerful V6 engine. Traction control is worth buying and is recommended. Beautiful heated leather seats feels great. plenty well designed cup holders.
Weakness:
None so far. After an extensive research on many midsize & luxury SUV''s it was an easy decision once I test drove the highlander with my wife. We both fell in love with the car instantly. It exactly fit our needs being an SUV with excellent visibility and in the same time feels and drives like a very nice luxury sedan. Toyota was giving a zero% finance incentive on many models but the highlander. I test drove the 4runner which felt like a truck and in geeting in or out my pants were soiled from the side steps which were too wide. With the highlander I have no problem going to work in a suit and in the same time enjoy the ride.. I was able to negotiate a price which is $1000 above invoice price. I bought the v6 limited edition with all options available but the 4WD which I was adviced would be a waste of money since I rarely get off the road.. The last 2 days we had lots of snow and I didn''t have any problem driving it. The transmission has a snow mode button which helps getting off the drive way and icy roads. Strength:
Style, Toyota quality. Love the design, especially the interior styling. V6 provides power when you need it - very easy to speed in this vehicle!
Weakness:
Pricy. I don''t think I would have bought the vehicle new at $35K. After comparing Ford Escape, Ford Explorer, Lexus RX300, and Buick Rendezvous, I bought a LIMITED V6 AWD program vehicle in the Vintage Gold with 9500 miles on it. The vehicle has every option except for the heated front seats. Original sticker price was $34,900. Similar Products Used: First SUV, previous mini-van owner. Swearing off domestically produced vehicles for life. |

Toyota Highlander
Strength:
Engine/powertrain/ very smooth. Braking, some call it mushy but I rather like it. If used properly you can come to a nice stop with out anyone spilling any drinks (not that I would let anyone drink anything in the vehicle). Interior options, some people may think it is plain, but it is very functional, easy to get a the controls, dash board is not too busy at all. Overall handling is exceptional, you can feel the quality of the vehicle.
Weakness:
Price - a bit expensive, time will tell if it was worth it. Pathfinder was 4 grand cheaper for the SE, and it came with a lot more options that the Highlander doesn''t have in 4WD Base which I think it should for the price you are paying i.e. compass/outside temperature gauge, rear spoiler, fog lights, and a console (now available on the 2002). Recently purchased 2001 Highlander Indigo Ink, V6 4WD Base model. Added sport running boards, 55W fog lights, rear spoiler. Test drove many vehicles, and with my Job I drive a lot of various rental cars (see similar products used). The Highlander handles as nice as any of the cars, and the accleration of the 220hp engine I feel matches perfectly witht the vehicle. Vehicle is for the wife (I have a Pathfinder) and in all my testing the Highlander was the only vehicle that I felt matched up to the Pathy in terms of quality, options, and the drive. Strength:
Handles like a car Much cheaper that the Lexus RX300 Decent mileage
Weakness:
Cup holders are funky Stereo had a buzzing noise that we had repaired SF Bay Area Toyota dealers were rude and dishonest We purchased the V6 limited (full loaded) Highlander. The dealerships were asking $4000 above MSRP in California. We decided to use a car broker who was able to negotiate $1200 above invoice. Very nice SUV - we are completely satisified with the vehicle''s performance Similar Products Used: Lexus RX300 |
