Strength:

Three car seats in back is no problem. Two large men with hunting gear fit comfortably in back seat. LOTS OF TORQUE, essential for pulling itself out of the gumbo mud in the south.

Weakness:

Nut plates on skid plate strip out easily. (The skid plate must be removed to change the oil.) Small blind spot caused by front roof posts. Aftermarket accessories may not fit. Most aftermarket reciever hitches require the spare tire to be removed or it will cause the spare to rub a hole in the break line. When the spare is mounted underneath, it catches and collects mud. Gas mileage is mediocre at best. The factory tires are EXTREMELY bad. I replaced mine with a good 6 ply off-road tire. This dropped my gas mileage to approx. 12/14 MPG. Accessory prices are high but modification is easy.

The Xterra is probably one of the greatest vehicles for the outdoorsman since the JEEP. It is highly customizable. It will go places SUV's probably shouldn't once you put some decent rubber underneath. I chose Maximudder 31X1050. It is a very near match to the original tire size. I have three kids and car seats are an issue. The Xterra accomodates all three with no problem.

Weakness:

little detail: having the rear wiper have a time delay wipe like front

Great car, after my "Found on Road Dead"(FORD), it was great reassurance with SUV's. The Xterra performs better than the Ford, not sure if its driving skill or car, but also out dues my sisters Pathfinder '02.

Strength:

Just like the commercial says: It is everything you need and everything you don't need.

Weakness:

The pick up is absolutely the worse. We have a little 93 Subaru in the garage that has more get up and go. Switching into four wheel drive is usually a hit or miss. Many attempts before it works. When driving on rainy roads I hold my breath. The truck slides alot. Of course we all know the gas mileage stinks. Truck sways when hitting bumps in the road.

Bought my 2000 xterra in 1999. Looks great. Not a bad ride. Drives just like a truck. Needed new brakes before $17,000 miles and a new horn before it was a year old. The paint on the running boards started chipping by one year. Probably from standing on them loading surf boards on top. Plenty of leg room in the back seat. The cargo area has more storage room than my husbands Lincoln Navigator.

Strength:

1. Looks...this thing makes you want to hit the off road. 2. Price 3. Not as big and bulky as other SUVs

Weakness:

1. GAS MILEAGE IS FOR CRAP!!!!!! 2. Safety ratings 3. Rear door is too hard to close. 4. Air vents can't be shut off completely. 5. Back seat hard to get in and out of. 6. Power--doesn't want to get up and go.

My husband and I were very excited about this when we first bought it. We loved the looks and the idea of our first SUV. The price was very affordable compared to the competion. We had heard great things about Nissans. I still love the look of it, just not the function or performance. Thought this would be a great vehicle to have with our first child, but that was WRONG. The safety and handling of this vehicle on wet roads is a joke. The vehicle feels as if it could be knocked over by a strong gust of wind. The engine is too small to do justice on the freeway. It is a great vehicle for a single person of childless couple who have plenty of money to spend on gas!

Strength:

Very roomy, with a lot of leg room, good handling and fairly comfortable.

Weakness:

I don't like the seat material. I wish I would have upgraded to leather. The material is a little too scratchy.

This is my first SUV and I love it. The Xterra does great in the snow, and handles well on the road and off. It does great on gas mileage, and I would highly recommend this vehicle.

Mechanically perfect, great looking.

Weakness:

none that I can find so far

have had 4 explorers and have two high end cars. Xterra is a great vehicle and certainly the best vehicle for the money that i have purchased in a long time. Power is fine for me , and the abilities on the beach are great. It is the best looking SUV in my book.

4x4 is good. Lots of room. Smooth driving off road and on. Sleek interior w/ noepreen seat covers. Hits hard with two 12" subs!!!

Weakness:

Slugish v6 and bad gas mileage...thats about all.

Great SUV. Much more comfortable that Jeeps. Driving is smooth but slugish with 170hp. The super charged model is worth the extra $$$, but gas mileage sucks. Very fun to work on and upgrade. A must have for the SUV lover.

So much more comfortable than jeep products. More room all around.

Weakness:

Should have gotten S/C. bad gas

Bad gas mileage! It does not handle to well through the beach sand of Lake Michigan, but on the other hand it gives a nice feeling of comfort on the ice and snow covered roads.

Strength:

I was reading some of the other reviews & I have to disagree with them on the off road capabilities. I have some land that I am hunting on just about every weekend & I feel that the exterra handles great off road & also getting around tight spots.

Weakness:

Not enough power....period. Also had allot of problems with a leaky engine when I first bought the vehicle! Had to take it to the dealer 7 times before I stopped having problems! But since then it has been very reliable. Everything else is cool, but the power.

Had a frontier which was a great truck but not practical for my lifestyle. So I got an exterra.
