Strength:

Overall look, handling off road and on the streets, it feels like a car. We feel very safe in this vehicle, height is super to watch other cars, and ground clearance is also great to avoid hazards. In the rain it is also better than expected. We have taken her driving on the beach, and she didnt have any problems in the sand, never got stuck, nor did we fear that. It is a strong, rugged and safe vehicle. Lots of room for long trips.

Weakness:

We actually wish she were a little bit wider, that would make the roll over rate alittle less and give some added room. More horsepower would also be good, since suprizingly it doesn't have as much as we thought it should, since off roading and towing all require a bit more punch.

I saw my first Xterra about 5 years ago. I had to have one! We finnaly was able to purchace our first new vehicle, and of course it was the Xterra! What a wonderful SUV. It is a great family sport vehicle. The truck is sharp looking, even our neighbor bought one after looking at ours. I truly do love this SUV.

Handles great. Actually feels like a car, not a truck. Love the heighth, how we can see so much. Gas milage is better than we thought it would be, highway milage is amazing!! She is a strong rugged vehicle, great off road, and does great in the sand while driving on the beach.

Weakness:

We wish it was a bit wider. More horsepower would also be helpfull, but then that would suck up gas too much.

I love my Xterra, for the last 5 years I wanted one, and was finally in the posistion to buy one in Febuary! I love it!!! It is great for long trips and since is our only vehicle, it is wonderful everywhere. It looks sharp, is a true family sport SUV. Even my neighbor bought one 2 months ago once they checked out ours.

Fonctional interior Good looks

Weakness:

Gas mileage sucks (supercharged engine uses premium gas) way nderpowered (even with the supercharged engine) poor off-road capabilities mechanical problems expensive truck/quality Bad service at Nissan Dealership

This SUV is very poorly built. Had tons of problems over the course of a year (purchased new in March 2003 - sold February 2004). The service at Nissan is awfull. I will never buy a Nissan vehicle ever again. Replaced the Xterra by a 91 Cherokee ... and so far, I have NO PROBLEMS with the Cherokee

Strength:

Super ride, great handling, tough frame/body, excellent brakes, durable interior, good offroad capabilities, lots of cargo and passenger room, works well as a mobile tent. Can change fluids without a jack. My nieces absolutely love the high back seats!

Weakness:

Weak exhaust manifolds.

I now have 100,000 miles on my Xterra, purchased new in October 1999. All of those miles have been in complete satisfaction. I have put a lot into my Xterra with a suspension lift, body armor, electronics, etc. I do take my Xterra offroad, as well as commute with it. I cannot stress enough how wonderful this truck has been! I love it so much I never want to get rid of it, and probably never will. The ride, handling, and stability is just incredible for a lifted and offroad capable vehicle, and the truck is built to last. There are absolutely no rattles in this truck despite the mileage and how it's used. Only rattles come from things I'm carrying. The body and frame are as tight as when I bought it and the interior looks like brand new too. A lot of people think the interior is cheap, but it's incredibly durable and replacement parts are affordable if you do damage something. The truck is just a pure joy to drive and gets a lot of positive attention. It also does a good job towing. I can't even complain about the gas mileage. My Xterra is 700 lbs overweight due to modifications and runs oversized tires and I can still get 17 - 19 MPG on the highway. I knew I was buying a truck with poor aerodynamics, lots of weight, and large tires. I also read the EPA sticker before I bought. No surprises; it gets what I would expect any similar truck to get, maybe even a bit better. I wish it had a bit more power, but in reality it does fine. Here in the U.S. we can't drive very fast anyway. It will get out of it's own way if need be. The engine runs great and has plenty of low end torque. It also sounds as good as a 350Z. I absolutely love this truck! I will have to be dead and cold for anyone to get it away from me.

Strength:

I like the style and looks of the Xterra!!! And love the simple(K.I.S.S.) functions that work good for me. Ive never owned an SUV before. But so far ive really been enjoying my Xterra right now and probably days to come.

Weakness:

I really thought that they should offer more models with leather seats, since i really like the leather interior. I agree that with a V6 Engine it should atleast have 200-225 Horses. Although the 170-180 we have on our V6 is adequate enough. I thought the gas mileage/gallon was not that good/bad. But most SUVs are gas hogs anyways. And i knew it from day one taht i was only going to get 16-19 on my Xterra. Ive been testing my Xterra and its been constantly running on 17.7 - 18.4 a gallon. Not as bad as i thought. The Supercharge maybe a different story.

Ive always owned a honda from 93,95,97,99 accords. But i had needed something to fit my travelling style and carrying alot of gear around. So i opted for the Xterra. First i really liked the way it looked. And was skeptical about the gas consumption. But its really all that i needed. And the 17-18 MPG is fine by me. Its been behaving and driving really good for me, not complaints here. Although i hope Nissan will improve this. And more Horses on the V6.

Very sporty looking, Lots of hauling space for trips, Reliable , ground clearnce is amazing, wonderful for deep snow and mud.

Weakness:

gas mileage and seat material.

I have been very satisfied with my 2002 Nissan Xterra SE. It has the normal handling you can expect out of an meant to be of roading veichle. Very sporty looking and to date has been extremly reliable. Although it does have pretty poor gas mileage and I do agree with everyone else that being a V6 it is pretty weak. But if you are not going for a veichle that has to have an extreme amount of power I highly reccomend this SUV. We did have a problem with our stock 6 disc cd changer jamming up so that was a slight down fall and Nissan wanted 3000 to replace. We rather just opted to buy a whole new one from best buy. I would suggest getting the water resistant seat covers if you have children. The material is kinda wierd and like to hold water stains. Great Suv again I would definitly agree to trade in this one for another one when we are done paying on it.

Strength:

Exterior styling, off road capabilities( defenitely need 4wd if in cold climates - sucks in 2wd in snow), good value vs other similar SUVs

Weakness:

A bit underpowered 6 cyl could use more horses - go for the supercharger, not the best gas mileage (15-18 mpg, sometimes when you hit bumps (there are many in PA -the pothole capital of the world) the back end jolts a bit and get a set of all terrain tires

I have to say I have my X for 5 months now and I love it. I have almost 10k miles on it already and it is great. Living in PA, the 4wd capabilities come in handy, and I have used them on back roads after a fresh 8 inches of snow, and through fields (hehe) with no problems. I have taken it on long trips and it is comfortable. I've had at least 5 random people tell me how cool my vehicle is and ask me alot of questions. Its not as common (in my area) as an explorer or grand cherokee so I am a bit unique. Love the ground clearance and headroom and I feel very safe driving it. I am 23 and I think this is a truck for the younger or active crowd, you can modify the roof rack to hold anything you need from bikes to boards. Its not fancy in the inside if you are looking for that. The base stereo is decent. There is plenty of room for my golf clubs, basketball and softball equipment, and dog cage and I plan on adding a bike rack soon. Not the best acceleration (automatic) but its not a sports car. If you are looking for a highly capable off road - it is a rule you have to get it dirty (and on road - I have driven 90 mph in the rain with no slippage) vehicle and don't have to drive up and down mountains all day, this is the vehicle for you!

The look that you are ready for anything

Weakness:

Poor gas milage. Inside is very plan, not enough options for the price. I haven't experince any flaws... yet and i pray that I don't. The cost for new tires... those tires have a lot of "meat" on them. Not enough room, its truely a four seater than five. Not enough room for people who ride in the base, espeically if you are 6 foot 2 like my self

At first I was very impressed by the the hight the truck is from driving a VW Jetta. What really, I mean really sucks if the fact that it buns gas quicker than I can put it in the truck. I haven't towed anything yet, but is "V6" engine runs like a 4 "bangger". I know it has 180 horsepower, but I'm now starting to think its missing a few ponies. The driving is smooth and taking those long trips in Georgia to Savannah, or Atlanta, I'm really impressed thatis runs smooth on the road. Its still a truck and I'm comparing it to other trucks that I have driven. This is the type of truck you want if you an active person and loves the outdoors... not just "loving" the out doors but will go out there and do that; camping, off road'n, etc. BUt if you like everyone else out here, we just drive the truck to work, home, the mall, etc. It will bun a hole in your pocket. On average I get 150 miles for 9gallons! Or if you want to call it, a half a tank. and yes that's highway driving. So you can imagine driving through the city. Thank God I have another car. Honestly, Even though i just brought this truck December 2003 and its a 2004 modle, I'll be trading it in in 2005 or 2006. I do not plan to keep this truck for long. I do have the bursh gards on the front and back of the truck, it gives it a "differen't" look from the other Xterra's i see.

Strength:

Off-road ability, availability of aftermarket off-road parts, roominess, power (manual only), stereo is great for stock, roof rack is sturdy as hell, dry basket handy for wetsuits, etc. Also, being able to buy it stripped stock instead of dealing with all those packages is nice. Really took away from the price, and I don't mind rolling up my own windows.

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage (c'mon, Nissan! Make it in DIESEL!), even a 4 cyl. 4x4 would be nice. Mine had a defective fuel sender, covered by warranty. Nissan thinks it's OK to put street tires on an off-road vehicle. Uh-uh. I do get the feeling that Toyota has better workmanship, and I would have bought one, but they're SO damned expensive, no truck-based SUV costs less than $30,000. My Xterra was less than $21,000!

I bought a 2003 4x4 XE V6, manual transmission, no power options, base model. I've had my Xterra for nearly half a year and so far I love it. Plenty of room, and plenty of little details like tie-down hooks, map holders, etc. that just make sense. It handles like a truck, not a sports car, so it's not gonna win any races, but it's got plenty of power especially in a manual transmission. Off-road, it's a trail limo. It doesn't handle like a Jeep Rubicon, but then again a Rubicon won't take you and four friends and a week's worth of gear. Seats fold down to make a six foot bed, sleeps me plus wife plus dog comfortably. Four 12-Volt power outlets distributed throughout, which run continuously, so every electronic device can charge at the same time. Like I said, little details. And if you want to build it into a mean off-road machine, plenty of places make reasonably priced parts. Oh, and try buying a comparable SUV for $20,000. Never happen!
