Strength:
Not many, looks decent, goes well in snow, rather cheap insurance
Weakness:
NO gas mileage, rides like a pulling tractor, hydroplanes like crazy, no power I bought this SUV used. It seemed to be in good shape till I took it through a car wash. To add to a used car salesman's already shady reputation, he failed to let me know the sunroof leaked. Since then I have had to have new exhaust, pullies, bearings, timing belt, fan cluch, front and rear shocks, speakers, cd player. I think I will go back to Toyota after this piece of crap. Very capable 4X4 Heated seats Very reliable nice ride no squeeks or rattles 4 wheel disc brakes are great
Weakness:
needs more power low top speed 160kms pop up sunroof is a pain poor milage I own a 95 SE-V6 4X4, automatic, 130,500kms Wow what a reliable SUV, Not one thing has broken or given troubles in well over the year i've owned it. A few minors when it was still on warranty, but it was fixed in the same day at the dealer. a very capable off road truck, especially in the snow and mud. I live in canada and it likes the deep snow, especially since i put the 2657515 Bridgestone winter dueler tires on it. Heated seats are great when its -40 degrees up here. Sport suspension is great for handling and hill climbing. Similar Products Used: 1986 volvo, reliable 1977 GMC 4x4, likes gas station |

Strength:
The Overdrive feature is very nice, gas consuming though The stereo system is ok. the 4wd is ok. It looks wonderful.
Weakness:
Cornering is horrible Electrical problems Starting prob's Transmission prob's Battery Prob's Very roughing riding Gas gombler If one electrical thing goes wrong, everything starts to go bonkers. and no one knows how to fix these suv's properly, I've been to the mechanic 4 x in 7 days, then 3x 3 weeks ago, 2x 2 months ago, 2x 5 months ago. Has left me stranded plenty of times. Ok, I love the feel of an SUV and I love her when she runs, but, she is always having some sort of electrical problem, starter problem, and battery problems. I've had excessive dropping in voltage, sometimes she starts, sometimes she won't, she switches gears slowly, they say maybe a new transmission. Low gas mileage, veryyyy low, I live in the DC metropolitan area and it costs me $30 to fill my tank for 2 days of commute!!! The doors lock themselves when you close the door with the keys in the ignition, and no, it's not an alarm system!! You can't read the board where you change form A/C to heat at nighttime, you have to turn on a light. The stereo system is ok, not bad. Ignition switch went bad on me too. I've invested about $3-4k in repairs and I'm sick of it. Sometimes the windshield wipers won't work at all, sometimes they do. It drives like a truck, not very smooth at all, very rough, I like it but, when I have guests, I see them jumping like bunnies. None Bought this 1996 Pathfinder for my son's first car for Christmas. He owned it 12 days before totalling it in an auto accident on interstate in the snow. The car rolled 3 times, he was wearing his seatbelt and his life was spared. I am confident that this vehicle saved his life. The car was in unimaginable good condition (although totalled) for rolling 3 times going 60 miles an hour. I am looking for another one for him. |

Strength:
The most reliable vehicle I've ever come across and does everything I expect it to do as far as pick-up, ride and all around utility. This vehicle personifies it's classification of Sport Utility Vehicle providing a roomy interior, med-high sitting position for visibility and ample ability to haul what I want. At 100k miles there is still a lack of rattles and creeks, thanks to uni-body construction. Great service from Nissan Dealer/Repair Facility. Long list of standard features keeps you from guessing what you're going to pay.
Weakness:
Uses a little more fuel than I would like. Antilock brake self-test is quirky, vehicle tends to drop in the rear end after being stopped for a few seconds which I, in error, have accused people behind me of rear ending my car. I understand that newer models do not have this problem. Rear drum brakes show very little sign of wear which leads me to believe that they are not as functional as they should be. I bought my '96 Pathfinder brand new and in '03 I am still driving after turning over 100k. If that's not enough to affirm my love, reliance and confidence in this vehicle, let me give you a brief history. This vehicle has not cost me one penny for repairs other than normal wear which it's on the third set of tires, brake pads and stereo with the later being my fault. The only trips to the shop in over six years were first model year minor fixes and replacement of right hand side exhaust manifold, which were all covered by Nissan with minimal down time. I test drove six different SUVs when I bought my 4x2 Pathfinder XE and I don't care what other reviews for exceleration say, this was the only one that impressed me at the time. It remains solid and strong as the 110k mile service approaches and is not showing the signs of wear you would expect from a domestic model, things still work. Strength:
.Poweful .Nimble, almost like a sedan .Plenty of amenities .Quiet .Nice sound system .Excellent Value .Reliability(CR's report)
Weakness:
.Fuel effeciency(or lack of), I got 17-18 mpg highway, 13-14 city driving. Hope will improve a little after break in .out-of-date design .easily bottom out .rear wheel drum brake This truck is my first SUV. Fed up the glare from vehicle behind me, I decided to join the SUV army. After several months' research, I picked several candidates and test drove them. Ford Escape(typlical Ford, questionable quality), Mazda Tribute(same as Escape), Land Rover Freelander(nice but too small and underpowered), eventually I chose Pathfinder for its value and power. Strength:
The Pathy goes down rough rocky hills with ease. Goes up hill very well (except in deep sand). Good entry and exit angles. Very comfortable for both driver and passenger. A pleasure to drive.
Weakness:
Thirsty, about the same as larger off-roads. The 80 litre tank is a bit small for Australia. Needs a bit more gound clearance for sand. This is our first 4 wheel drive vehicle. Immediately set off to Innamincka in South Australia. Did 6000kms over some very rough corrugations and lots of dust. Also did a tag-along off road trip and the "Pathy" performed very well. Then did a driver training course and was amazed at how well the car performes. It outperformed me and several other types of 4x4. Exceptional downhill ability and only got stuck on very large sand-hills. Then did 5000 kms to watch the 2002 Eclipse in the South Australian desert. Did the Border track (2 metre deep mud-holes), Goog's track (350 Sand dunes) and the Gawler Ranges. This is about as hard as it gets before you get terminally serious about off-road driving. Strength:
Reliability, Ride, comfort for short people. Layout of the dash and sound system. Interior doesn't have that cheap feeling like some U.S. suv's.
Weakness:
Had to replace the right exhaust manifold, it cracked dealer said this is normal for '96-'97. Of course the milage but I installed a "tornado unit and a K&N performance airfilter" increase milage on highway to 21 compared to 18. Bought the Pathfinder used from a dealer. Test drove on a sunday, took it home that day. Have not had major problems. Does have a wind noise around the front doors with an after market bug shield that was on the vehicle. Taken it on several vacations, just hit the cruise and let her go. Did a lot of test driving of other like vehicles before deciding on the Pathfinder. Similar Products Used: None. Had a Scout when first got married. For fun we'd watch it rust on a sunday afternoon. Kids are gone and it's time to have some fun! |

Strength:
*Powerful 3.5 V6 engine *Roominess *User friendly dash and controls *Smooth ride (nimble in tight turns). *Fuel economy (better than most). *Bose sound system
Weakness:
Needs dual 12V outlets I drove several mid-size SUV's when shopping for a new car, this included Toyotas,Hondas,Ford, and GM. None of them impressed me like the Pathfinder(LE). I liked its powerful V6 engine, smooth ride and roominess. It also handles well on the road. Has a sporty feel about it. Similar Products Used: Toyota 4Runner |
