Strength:

Great ride. Decent Gas milage. Decent Speed. Very Comfortable car like ride. In 3.5 years only took it in for Oil changes. Alot of room and very nice for backseat sitters

Weakness:

Blind sided view . Bad Piller placing. Like anywhere beware your service dealer. DO not go to Loeber in Chicago. Horrible. But Others were great .

I am torn between a 4Runner and another Path. I think Im gonna go with the pathfinder Howerver. The ride is just so smooth. The A.C. works great. Oh yea beware the radio/c.d. repalced it once and it seems to be on brink again. Overall na great SUV.

I bought my Pathfinder at an aution merely because I wanted an suv. MUCH to my surprise, it turned out to be a dream. It handles very well, cornered great, and even with just a 4 cyl engine, had plenty of power. Like the saying goes, I didn't know what I had until it was gone. I sold it and since have bought several other suv's but thus far, that pathfinder was the best I've owned. Plenty of room, and defiantly held its value. Yes. I need to get another one.

Strength:

Excellent appearance. Looks rugged.

Weakness:

The 170hp engine is extremely anemic. It really sours me on the Pathfinder altogether. But, if we're making a list, the Bose stereo is a joke--clearly a complete ripoff. It sounds no better than the standard radio. Seats are uncomfortable and have little room for long legs. Moving the seats without power controls make them feel even cheaper. Power windows move extremely slowly. Seat belts frequently (VERY) stick and won't allow me to lean forward at all and I have to warn my passengers not to panic when they feel stuck. Cargo cover for the storage space behind the back seat is flimsy and opens whenever I hit a bump in the road. Outside temperature gage is always 5-10 degrees wrong. Windshield cracked when I turned on the defrost and the outside temperature was about 15 degress F (and Nissan says it's not a defect....that's even more troubling...this is normal????). License plate rattles against the car because the mounting brackets don't hold it snug to the car. Rear view mirror fell off when I tried to adjust it during the first week (it is mounted so low on the windshield that it causes a blind spot behind it). Back window wiper has never cleaned the window (only half the covered window area is cleared of water when the blade moves across it...it's like the blade is lifting off the window as it passes spots). Power sunroof inside cover just broke (it sounds like its scraping against metal when I tried to move it. I think a spring popped loose and is jammed in the track that the cover slides in). Cupholders are poorly placed (when placing a drink in each holder, the back drink is not accessable because it's actually underneath the armrest).

Even though Nissan threw in a stronger 240hp engine, I think you'll agree that I have other more troubling comments about this vehicle. I think that Nissan needs to get its act together. Now that Nissan wants me to pay for the windshield that cracked all the way along the bottom because they say it's not a defect (I talked to a mechanic who said the window was not properly installed...defect in installation)I'm done with Nissan for good. Let 'em go bankrupt. No loss.

What a vehicle! I love just about everything about this vehicle. I spend so much time in the mountains and this has no problem at all getting me there. The engine hardly works at all-I haven't even come close to the red line yet and I'll be going 70mph up hills and passes other cars struggle with. It does so well in the snow too-with its weight and longer wheel base it sticks to the road like a bug on fly-tape. So far I have kept track of my gas mileage and after about 10 fill-ups, I'm averaging 17.8 mpg with the highest being 20- my most recent one- with which was all mountain driving!! The interior is pretty nice for what you pay. There's nothing like hiking or snowboarding all day and then to get in this vehicle and turn the Bose system on and hear minimal road noise while sitting comfortable in the nice ergonomic seats. There's plenty of cargo space and storage space. So far I have no rattles or noises and everything seems to be well put together(unlike my last car-a GMC Jimmy- what a tool box!!). The few complaints I do have are: no available skid plate, lot of blind spots(when backing up), and the horn is a little weak-which I'll take care of. This is my first foreign car and so far I am very impressed with it and hopefully it will continue to be good for me.

Strength:

Handles better than most SUV's. Good looking truck. Surprisingly good off road.

Weakness:

RELIABILITY. Engine power. Several design issues with the interior. Customer service from Nissan is terrible.

I bought a Pathfinder because of its decent rating on reliability.....big mistake. I now have 70,000 miles on it and I'm thinking about selling it because it's just too unreliable and expensive to repair. The rear differential was shot at only 30,000 miles (covered under the 60,000 mile warranty) and would have cost over $800. At 68,000 miles (just after the warranty expired) the head gasket blew and the cylinder head cracked. No one knows which one happened first, but it ended up running me $1,900 and Nissan was not willing to at least provide some parts for the repair. According to them, that's what you get for buying a Nissan. It took them 3 tries to finally deliver me a new cylinder head (a $650 part), each one they sent was either cracked or damaged right out of the box and required the truck to be in the shop several weeks. But of course, there was no manufactures defect with the one in my truck that cracked. From other reviews, it sounds like the exhaust manifold will be next to go. Just a totally unreliable truck. I have taken excellent care of it with a lot of preventative maintenance.

They have obviously designed the Pathfinder, like most cheesey SUVs, to do well on the road, but they gave it an off road engine with lots of torque and no acceleration. The engine's strength should match the rest of the vehicle or visa versa. I assume the new 240 hp is much better for road driving because mine has absolutely no guts.

There are several poor designs with the interior of the vehicle. Most notably is the number of controls packed onto the turn signal lever. You need to take your eyes off the road far too often to figure that thing out. The headlight switch on the lever is dangerous because it is very easy to accidentially turn the headlights off while trying to use the turn signals. I bought the vehicle used, but the list price on that Bose is a joke....you'd be way better off buying one aftermarket for that kind of money.

15" wheels are lame if you're really looking for a "utility" vehicle - why not 16"? Windshield cracks in a stiff breeze. Headlights crack easily and are very expensive.

Strength:

Great handling, simple 4X4 controls, tight feel, wife is very comfortable driving it.

Weakness:

Lack of power with 3.3 V6, gas mileage, brakes have problems.

We've only owned this vehicle for about 2 months. But, the day after we bought it, with 29,900 miles on it, we went on a 5000 mile cross-country trip with two kids and snow storms every where. So, we found out pretty quickly it's strengths and weaknesses. First thing we noticed after we loaded it down with cargo and headed over the mountains was the lack of power. It wasn't exceptionally bad, but even my non-gearhead wife noticed it wasn't as powerful as her Taurus. Then we filled the tank and about fainted, it got 14 mpg!! The dealer told us that we would get about 20-22mpg on the highway. After spending almost twice what we figured in gas for the trip, we arrived in the Midwest and I made some phone calls to dealers about a potential problem with the mileage. I was told by all that my dealer simply lied and that it should get about 14-16mpg. My `87 Ramcharger with a 300hp 5.9L V8 gets 14mpg!!
I went out and bought a K&N air filter for about $50 and increased mileage by about 1.5mpg. I then took the vehicle to a Goodyear shop and had them check the alignment and remove the resonator(rear muffler). They replaced the factory resonator and pipe with about 4 feet of larger diameter tubing(2"). It sounded throatier and power was noticeably increased. Checked mileage on a nice flat 60-mile stretch of interstate and it increased to 22mpg!!
On the trip back West, with more cargo, and driving into the wind, our average mileage went from 14 to 17mpg. Around town driving since we've been back has been about 16.5mpg. This is still less than we expected, but are thankful we were able to increase it.
Last week I was stopped at an intersection and noticed that if I pushed on the brake pedal real firm while stopped, it would slowly lose all of it's pressure and go to the floor. Will go to the dealer soon.
All in all, we're pretty happy with it. My wife drove the new Ford Escape as well as the new Nissan Xterra. Our used Pathfinder was almost $10,000 less and felt tighter than the Escape. Time will tell if it remains reliable.

Cute little truck, comfortable seats,

Weakness:

Almost everything...Where to start, Well I bought it with 39,000 miles 3 and a half years ago and the so-called 5000lb towing is a joke. It won't even pull a loaded 2-place snowmobile trailer to canada over 75mph. The engine was supposed to be reliable but the manifold on both sides went with 100 miles left on the warranty. Good thing too because it took them 19 hours of labor ot drill out the bolts. Then at 70,000 miles the starter wore out and i tried to replace it, but The engine has to be removed to pull the starter out due to the manifold and the frame so that cost $500. The 12v adapter wore out at 50,000 miles, Engine leaks oil, transfer case leaks, and so does the transmission.

I would not recommend it due to many faults that will drive u crazy and cost you money. Because it is Jappeneese parts are also expensive. The thing is a slow vehicle also, my buddies minivan and their little contour will put it to shame. I thought buying a Japeneese vehicle would be allright after our accord laster over 200,000 miles. I don't even know if it will last over 100,000. But it's for sale now and i'll be trading it in soon for another SUV, probably a ford seeing how i have had good luck with my other two ford products.
