Strength:

Interior is easy to get accustomed to. Bose stereo is great. Sharp looking, quiet and handles very well.

Weakness:

For over $32,000, I wish it had the remote roll down window found in the 4-Runner. Full time 4 wheel drive would also be nice.

I looked at 4-Runner, Grand Cherokee and the Pathfinder. I was leaning towards the 4-Runner until I drove the 2001 Pathfinder LE. The cinched it. The new 240 HP engine is incredible. Blows everything else in its class out of the water.

Quality, Quality, Quality. Did I mention Quality?

Weakness:

None at all!

I've been driving Pathfinders for over 5 years. I ABSOLUTELY love mine! My wife loved my 93' SE but it drove like a truck and you needed your own personal parking lot to turn it around in. It was definitely a single man's truck but once I got married I needed it to be more refined so we (reluctantly) traded it in on a 99 XE..(never used 4x4)and boy was I stunned!! A dramatic difference in ride and handling. The "unibody" construction is solid and drives like a dream. The interior is superior and elegant compared to the Forerunner we were looking at, and the style is very refined. I even get better gas mileage! I kinda wished I had waited for the bigger engine but it serves my needs completely. I would highly recommend a Nissan Pathfinder to anyone looking into the SUV market. We also own a 95' Nissan 300zx with 28k miles that sits in the garage. What can I say except, We are Nissan Driven!!!

Strength:

Everything. Durability, gas mileage, power, looks, space.

Weakness:

The ugly redesign in, what, '95 or '96? It was a beautiful truck, why'd you change it?!?

This truck is amazing. It's got 145,000+ miles on it, and I'm getting over 16mpg city DELIVERING PIZZAS, 22+ highway. This may not seem real high, but it's a truck, what do you expect? It's higher than on the dealers sticker, and it's 11 years old! The previous owner was meticulous about maintenence, so it runs every bit as good as when it was new.

The power is great, I don't understand why everyone is complaining about that, when I give it gas, it goes. It's only a 2WD (rear wheels), and I've never even wanted 4WD here in Northen Michigan. I've been stuck once, and that was just bad driving on my part. It handles great, and I love how compact it is. I can fit in parking spots that mid-size cars have problems with.

The interior looks great, no leather or anything, but I wouldn't want it to. It's a utility vehicle, not a luxury car. If you want a vehicle for luxury, buy a Lexus or something. If you want a vehicle that will do all the hard work you need it to, be comfortable, drive great, and not have to worry about it, buy a Pathfinder. It's got more than enough room, the back seats fold down. The stereo system is awesome, I put in a new deck, but the the speakers are stock (11 years old), and people always ask me what kind of aftermarket speakers I have.

I paid $4500 for this 2 1/2 years ago, and ripped the guy off. Blue Book was more than twice that. I will drive this thing until it dies, so I'll have it for many more years, at least 10. I have not had any problems with the engine or body or transmisson or anything. This is a beast.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this car other than the fact that i can only afford one of them...it is the greatest SUV that i have ever driven, it beats out the explorer, blazer, expedition, jeep, everything, absolutely magnificent vehicle to own, i love every aspect of it inside and out, the exquiste interior that shines of class and the exterior is just superb...I LOVE IT

Weakness:

HAHAHAHA weaknesses do not apply to this car

I paid about 40Gs canadian which isnt to much different from the american price and i would reccommend this car to everyone who loves trucks or high riding cars because you can get any better SUV other then the Pathfinder from Nissan..its 10x better then the 2000 pathfinder...go out and but it now!!!

Model Reviewed: Pathfinder

Strength:

When I went shopping for a new car last Spring in March of 1999, I had several requirements. One, the vehicle had to have what it takes to pull a jet boat. Two, it had to be able to hold fairly large amounts of computer equipment in a dry lockable area. Three, I wanted to carry at least 4 people comfortably. Thus far, my 1999 Pathfinder XE has been able to perform all of these tasks. It pulls a 17 foot Yamaha Exciter 270 jet boat with no problems, the seating is adequate and the storage space it provides has been more than ample for my needs. I chose to get the XE without all the frills to save on money. Therefore we are talking about a vehicle without power windows/doorlocks, and it even has a five speed manual transmission. Even with these options taken out, you still get a very stylish that you can feel good about. Also, as far as interiors go, I beleive that there isn't another brand of SUV that has a more uncluttered yet classy looking interior. I would recommend the tan upgraded interior with the highly.

Weakness:

Ah, as with any car, there are sure to be some drawbacks. The Pathfinder is not known for its incredible power. Indeed, I have the 3.3 Liter V6, and it dows run a tad bit slower then many of its other brand couterparts. But... there is a fairly cheap solution to this problem. For about 50 to 90 dollars, one can pop a K&N air filter into the airbox under the hood. This will increase the horsepower immediately and will give the V6 plenty of kick. With my five speed manual, 92 octance gas, good oil, and this filter, I often win those stop light drag races. (with similar vehicles of course). As far as turning radius goes, I can whip this 4000 pound vehicle into just about any spot, and it will complete a u-turn while taking up less than two lanes. Braking is a bit on the soft side, as I often have to anticipate slowing down, but hey, its is a 4000 pound machine after all. The back doors don't open real wide, so rear seat entry is a little hampered, but not much. The engine, while refined under normal operation, tends to growl at higher RPM's. Suspension is tight yet, absorbs bumps without slamming your head into the door pillar.

I paid $22,150 for this car, I yes, I would highly recommend it.

Similar Products Used:

In many reviews of the Pathfinder, the common woes listed are its power, engine noise, and rear door entry. Let me enlighten you about these problems if you have read about them. First, this SUV had adequate power. It isn't a screamer by any means, but it will take off quickly and trailer with no problem. Like I metioned above, a simple K&N air filter will boost the performance nicely. The engine noise is not something of a bother by any means, after about 3500 to 4000 RPM's you can here it growl a little. Had I not read any reports, I would have never identified the engine noise to be a problem. As for rear door entry, the door just by design can't swing open real far, so if you have a baby, maybe this car isn't right for you. The vehicles to consider in this category are the Ford Explorer, Jeep Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner, Izuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport, and the Chevy/GMC blazer.

Strength:

solid construction, no mechanincal problems, no rattles or squeaks.

Weakness:

power and gas mileage and loud engine. The truck has no power at all, I cant even pass other cars on the interstate. For fun i drag raced my buds 4 cyl Honda civic ex and it kicked my ass. How embarrassing! Since it has no power the engine is soooo loud and whiny when accelerating. Accelerating past 3000rpm sucks becasue you need ear muffs not hear the sound. Next the gas mileage is awful. It used to get 15mpg city and now it gets 10mpg. I have taken it in 4 times to different mechanichs and two dealers, no body can find anything wrong with it. What a piece of crap. The mileage is slowly getting worse and now i think it gets 8mpg city. I traded it in last week for a 2000 Grand cherokee w/ v8 and leather.

dealership changing owners and last one so got deal of $22,000. It was pretty plain looking on the interior. I would not reccommend since it has no power and the gas mileage sucked after 11/2 years. My 2000 cherokee is sweet. Its the most comfortable truck and its very luxuroius compared to any other truck out there especially the plain looking pathfinder. The power is like a sports car and it gets way better gas mileage than the pathfinder ever did with a v6. My v8 gets 17mpg city and thats driving it hard.

Strength:

Great off road. Even with the back up of 4-wheel drive, you can take it almost anywhere in 2wd. I have had it with the front-right side in a 2 1/2 foot hole, and backed out with no problem. It also looks the part of a rugged off-roader with larger tires and a brush guard.

Weakness:

Lack of take-off speed. It is almost like driving a Mac Truck when you punch the gas. Also, the turning radius is huge.

Mid $20k
It is a great SUV on or off road. With 4WD, I never get worried about getting stuck. I recomend it to anyone looking for a suv you don't mind getting muddy, and then driving around town showing it off.
