Strength:

Nice looking car.

Weakness:

The exhaust manifold gasket has cracked for the third time and I only have 90k miles on the car. The tires wear very poorly and the alignment cannot be completed aligned. Transmission has had some problems, it will not go into reverse.

I am completely unsatisfied with this car. I have taken such good care of this car and my wife has always said that I drive like an old person. I have not run this car into the ground and it has given me nothing but problems. I will never purchase another Nissan again. I cannot afford the costs of all the repairs. I think that Nissan should at least recall the pathfinders for the exhaust system problems.

I do not think that it compares very well to other SUV's.

Strength:

Powerful engine, Smooth ride, Handles very well, Very smooth breaking. Bose system, 6 CD in dash changer.

Weakness:

Gas mileage; rear view blind spots, Back seats lack legroom.

This is a great SUV. An absolute joy to drive. Good size not to large or too small. I would recommend the Pathfinder to anyone who is not looking to carry adult passengers in the back seat too often for too long of a ride. Got my Pathfinder LE loaded with everything except navigation system and entertainment package for 31000 plus tax.

Similar Products Used:

Tested the 4-Runner, didn't like the ride, lacked power, and it's only a 4 passenger SUV. Much more shoulder room in the Pathfinder. The Explorer ride was terrible.

Strength:

Power, Elegance, Value, Reliability, Ride, Handling. You name it, it's got it.

Weakness:

Just nit picky stuff because I am a perfectionist. Head room is lacking a little, and having to use a key to open the rear glass is a bit of a pain. Also, I have the Navigation System, which means that the CD changer is in the cargo area. Not too convenient. Also, I have the mobile entertainment system which eats up some cargo room. But all of this is minor, especially compared to the strengths.

Of all of the cars that I have listed above, the 2001 Path is the most complete vehicle that I have owned. Even more so than the Land Cruiser! The LC was awesome, but I am enjoying the 2001 Path better. More power, more amenities, better ride, although smaller. And it's 25k cheaper. I priced a new '01 LC. The sticker was 62k. I picked up the '01 Path LE with every option (including nav system, tv/vcr, leather, AWD, tow hitch, rear spoiler, extended warranty) for 36k. Huge savings!

Before deciding on the Path, I test drove a 4Runner, a Toyota Sequoia, a Grand Cherokee, a Land Cruiser, Mercedes ML 320, BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery, and an Acura MDX. The Path was the best overall vehicle in terms of value, reliability, power, amenities, driveability, ride, handling. The only thing I needed to adjust to was the size of the vehicle compared to the LC that I drove for 3 years.

I am thrilled with the vehicle so far. For anyone looking for an SUV in the 30k - 45k range, this is the SUV for you. And it won't cost you 45k.

Strength:

toughness, interior, non truck ride, exterior looks

Weakness:

Dealership, they were crooks, factory tires on the XE, I immediately replaced mine with some 31.5 x 10 tires and it makes the truck look really nice, gas mileage..hey how do I get the new intake and exhaust to increase power

The only thing I have actually replaced was the manifold under warranty. I had no idea a Nissan product could be so tough. I now have 98,000 miles on the truck and it still doesn't rattle with the exception of something wierd going on with the luggage rack. The 4-Runner would have cost 7,000 more and would not have been near the same truck, the dealer added an electric sunroof, leather and running boards and the truck stiil cost under 25,000 duckies with only 8,000 miles on it. I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off or until my 1 year old can drive it!

Strength:

Reliability, comfort, power, features, nav system, Bose stereo, great leather package, etc...

Weakness:

The coin tray is just a bin instead of a "coin dispenser" type.

I did so much research on the SUV market it was scary. I had my heart set on a Jeep GC mostly for it's looks, but was eventually talked out of it by the pleading of all my friends who have owned them in the past. That led me to test drive the Pathfinder. I was hooked. I drove all the above trying to find a reason to not buy a Nissan, but was just more convinced each time. Then, I read everthing I could get my hands on...magazine reviews, test drives, this forum, Edmunds Town Hall forums and it all led to the same conclusion. I then picked the trim level, color and options and set out to find a good deal. Port City Nissan in Portsmouth, NH was great! I flew from Los Angeles to New Hampshire to buy it and drove it back taking in several points of interest along the way. I saved THOUSANDS!!! I now have owned it for 5 weeks and have over 7,000 miles logged. Not a single problem! I thought I had a slight rattle in the dash, but it turned out to be the pile of beads I got in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. : ) This thing is a blast. I've just started going off-road and so far, I'm impressed!

I was concerned about fuel mileage...My friend has had his Durango for about 6 months and he's getting around 11MPG! My worst tank was 15MPG (off-roading) and my best was 21!!! I'm regularly getting 17-18 combined with a solid 19-20 on the highway. I'm running Mobil 1 and am thinking about a K&N air filter.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!!!!

Strength:

Quiet, powerful engine, smooth transmission, excellent handleing

Weakness:

Poor fuel economy, rear seat room

Overall this is a very good SUV. I purchased it because of reliability history, quiet ride, strong 240HP engine. I remain somewhat disapointed in the interior room, especially the rear seats which only are suited for smaller children. My second choice was a 2001 Tahoe. I'm hoping I get over the size issue or I just may trade the PF in. If you don't need a larger SUV the PF is a good choice.

Strength:

Good for around town driving.

Weakness:

struts went after 50,000 miles($800) Just recieved another estimate on the following at 60,000 miles: rear stabilizer links worn($300), speedometer worn and needs to be replaced($235), exhaust manifold(warranty)and apparently something on top of the engine called an intake plinum(sp?) needs to be fixed($660).

I will never buy another Pathfinder. It's not even paid for and the repair bills are huge! I do not go off road with this vehicle and mostly do around the town driving. I can't afford to put thousands of dollars into a car that's only 4 years old. I have never heard of a speedometer wearing out after 60,000 miles.

Strength:

Cargo Room, 4 wheel drive

Weakness:

Fuel economy (but its a truck!)

This is the best vehicle I have even owned (and I've owned quite a few!)
I have had this SUV for over 3 year snow and its done eveything I've asked of it. I've read people complaining about acceleration, if you wanted speed you should have bought a Trans Am!! This car is great for lugging around luggage on long trips with all of its storage capacity. The leg room in the rear seat is not the greatest but its more than adequate for 2 people to sit comfortably. The only "repairs" I have had to make so far are brakes, tires and a new battery.
Highly recommended.

Strength:

Lots of power. Great look, car like ride. Lots of safety features, controls are easily accesible. Fog light is a great addition. Got also 2 years lube oil and filter change free at Tyson's Nissan. When I took the car for an oil change at 8,000 miles I asked the technician for a tire rotation and he did it for free. That's great. Also driving position is great for a short guy like me. Is off road capable with 4x4.

Weakness:

Gas guzzler, however eventhough premium unleaded is recommended I fill my tank half Power Plus and half Premium to save money. The owner manual says use at least 91 octane so 89+93 divided by 2 you get 91 octane and the PF performs no different. The cargo room is crampy and I wish that bar in the center of the cargo room is removable.

Overall we are satisfied with our purchase. The vehicle performs as we expected it except the gas. The PF roars on the highway and very comfortable to drive. At stop lights PF leaves competition to dust. A great buy. I strongly recommends it to anyone looking for power, capability, and reliability at a moderate price of under 30K.

Did not test drive any other models but research alot in the internet and consumer report. The 4 Runner comes closest but it is pricey and underpowered with just 185 hp V6 compared to PF 240 hp v6. Never even think of the Jeep Cherokee laredo'cause of its reliabilty record
