Strength:

Bought it for $6000. Put another $2000 repairing underbody with welding and rustproofing, paint touchup and large Cooper 4x4 tires. Now looks 5 years newer. 2.5 turbodiesel engine (360,000km) still runs great. Commanding view from comfortable seats in roomy cabin. The old Pajaero (Montero) looks like, and is, a full-blooded 4x4.

Weakness:

Wide turning circle. Engine loud at speed. Insufficient soundproofing in cabin. Location of radio too low, near gearstick.

I think the new Mitsubishi Pajero (aka Montero in US) looks ugly! It looks somehow humped up, and wheel arches come too close to the ground. It's too much a boulevard cruiser now, not a full-blooded 4x4 anymore.

Strength:

great on and off road, 1995 SR is great off road, rear air locker is unstopable!! 2001 is more of a family suv, plenty of room for gear, and bags from the mall!! a real eye catcher!! sporttronic trany is a blast..

Weakness:

poor acceleration from the line on both models!!! trany a little whine in the 2001!!

I would recommend ether montero! the 2001 offers more room! and the 95 offers more durability!! I am not knocking the 2001's durability, but the 95 has a solid axil, ladder frame, rear locking diff with full floating axil, and skid plates all over the place! I would only use the 2001 limited for minor off road trips, going on the beach. ext...

Strength:

Absolutely beautiful truck. Stands out from other cookie cutter SUVs. Smooth ride, comfortable seats, handles well...doesn't lean in corners as much as other SUVs.

Weakness:

Slow acceleration, hence the mileage is poor considering the engines performance.

I would definately recommend this truck to anyone looking for a comfortable road tripper with plenty of room that looks nice. I wouldn't recommend it for someone that needs to do any hauling...boat etc.

Strength:

Smooth acceration, comfy seats, egonomics design of functional buttons.
Stable handling on road. Dependable engin.

Weakness:

wide turning radius, air sealing, sound prof, fuel comsumption. Poor handling in extream off road condition. Extreamly bad services provided by Cycle & Carrige(Malaysia Mitsubitshi Distributor). Service department couldn't figure which part was going wrong while leaving in for 2 days.
12V, lighter outlet, and fuel pump had to be replaced right after warrantee period.

Mitsubitshi Motor CO. should have established a department for proper training of it's employees. both for technical and customer wise.
Mitsubishi seldom do 'call backs' as we all could notice, 'Cover ups' or 'trouble free'? I personally believe cover up for trouble free.

This review is in response to the problem with the 1995 Montero SR that has smoke coming from the exhaust. Apparently Mitsubishi's are famous for the Valve Guides slipping down into the heads. This causes a buring of oil that creates smoke out of the exhaust. Once the valve guides are replaced the problem is solved with no damage done to the vehicle. The replacement valve guides have snaps that prevent them from moving into the heads. I had mine replaced on a 1994 SR at 84.000 and now have 116,000 miles on my 3.5 V6 engine and it runs GREAT! This remedy will cost a little, but Montero's are worth having the proceedure done.

Strength:

i love this vehicle until the bad part of it came in. great looks, huge moon roof, nice ride. the best vehicle i have ever owned (i have owned alot of new 4x4's) until now

Weakness:

try to get this thing fixed by a reputable dealer garage is all but impossible in my area. there are only 2 dealers in a huge area and they know it. mine has the 3.5 v6 and it has been oil changed ever 3000 and it now has 80000 miles and smokes like crazy - i could use it to fog for bugs. my favorite vehicle has now become my worst vehicle. try to get an honest answer from anyone anywhere at mitsubishi is almost impossible too. stay away from mitsubishi until they get some customer service

like i said best vehicle i have had, but i am discussed with being on my own with what now is becoming a piece of junk. i used to recommend it to eveyone. i wish chrysler would buy them and straighten their distribution and service problems out. hopefully i will stumble into some help at some non dealer garage.

Strength:

Beautiful ride, superb handling and a quiet ride - and this from former van owners. The sound system is great and the fold-away third row seat is a fantastic feature.

Weakness:

A little slow off the line. Can use an increase in horsepower and torque

Would recommend it to anyone looking for flexible seating and increased cargo space. A real value when compared to other SUV's

Very heavy, handles like a tank! Incredible 4wd system, I've pulled out many a Toyota with mine. Also great if you're a young couple in the back if ya know what I mean! Plenty of room to get your groove on with the missus!!!

Weakness:

A weak engine and no one can fix my God damn transmission!!

$41,500.00 I would very highly recommend buying a used one...very good deal

Model Reviewed: Montero SR

Strength:

Color, paint and outside presentation is remarkable! Leather seats and instrumentation provide both luxury and function. Tows a medium size trailer well, and is easy to manuever in both town and field. Headroom and legroom for both driver and passenger. Handles very well in four wheel drive conditions. Great vehicle for both recreating and formal functions. Excellent vision for driver and passengers. Very dependable.

Weakness:

When engine is cold, the RPM's create noise but little power. Luckily it doesn't last long. Limited storage in back area if the vehicle is equipped with fold down, far rear seats. Far Rear seats are only for little persons. The air conditioner could be stronger. But alas, if it only had a few more horses.

We paid a little too much. (Those were the days when they were stickered at 42K plus luxury tax, but the vehicle has been everything we could have ever wanted. Highly recommend the SR model, especially because they are now more affordable. Best built vehicle I have ever owned.

Model Reviewed: Montero LTD.

Strength:

This is the first SUV I have have ever own, I have waited for several years before buying one for several reason. I'm very impress with the room and it fits into my garage. The ride is very nice...I really like the leather int. The sound system is really nice and don't get me started on the sunroof it is perfect for everyone in the SUV. I really enjoy the height of the truck, it is not as high the full size SUV's but it higher than the Pathfinder's, Explorers, Jimmy's & Blazers. I'm always catching people looking at this SUV with that look of what in the HELL is that. That is a great feeling.

Weakness:

The only thing I can think of is more horsepower, Like about 235 or 250.. I hope they are thinking of adding more with thier next model.

I have only had the Montero LTD. for a month so far, with any SUV you have the issue of gas mileage but you have bite the bullet because if the gas mileage was great we would had nothing to cry about with this SUV. The wife it because she can just keep putting stuff in and it never gets full...that is a scary thing trust me..If people ask if they should look at this SUV I would tell them it is great but I would not want them to buy one becuase I would like to be the only on my block with one.

Similar Products Used:

I never got to test any other model becasue we were blow away during the test drive of this SUV. I had several models on my list and never got around to testing them because we were so impress by Montero LTD.
