Strength:

Nice outlook, good price & financing plan: 0.9% up to 48 months, good mileage: around 19mpg, very roomy: 6 passengers + luggages = no problem.

Weakness:

Underpowered: only 173
Depreciate too fast & too much: Low resale value. Go ahead and get it if you plan to have it for long term (says 8-10 yrs).

Paid $300 below invoice but I've heard that you can get lower if you are a good bargainer.

Strength:

Very pretty vehicle. It looks like an adult's truck, instead of a kid's. Very quiet drive, doesn't drive like an SUV. Easy access to all functions, particularly while you're driving. Great sound system without paying too much. And, oh yeah, I'm not paying anything until February of '01. =)

Weakness:

Engine is a tad weaker than I'd like. Not the greatest passing vehicle at highway (55-75 mph) speeds. I've heard that things break easily, though I've not experienced that.

I paid $27.4K for Montero Sport XLS 2WD with leather seats (added later). I would definitely recommend it-- it's a smooth ride, it has comfortable seats, it's sporty looking, and I really enjoy it. I wish the engine had a little bit more oomph to it, but that's my only gripe. Otherwise, it's nearly perfect.

Similar Products Used:

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (3 mos): I would say the Montero is more of a "car" than the Grand Cherokee. GC definitely a bigger, more powerful engine, but it also drives like a truck. Montero more for in-town, family, non-rugged driving conditions.
Dodge Durango (1 month): Durango is gorgeous, but it drives like a 747-- I always felt like I was about to lift off. Definitely prefer the Montero Sport.

Chevy Blazer (2 weeks): Crap. Looks bad, drives like a pickup. Definitely prefer Montero.

Mitsubishi's Finance Deal. It's almost to good to be true!
It has a nice ride, the looks set it apart from other SUV's.
The Dark Maroon paint looks great. The interior is simply laid out, not overdone. This SUV gets attention ! Also gets consistant 17 - 20 mpg no matter how you drive it !!

Weakness:

The suspension bottoms out when loaded , transmission
really delays the 1-2 shift when cold, & needs abit more power.

Paid 26K for the LS. It probably doesn't suit someone who goes off-road too much. It has a solid feel and rides real nice. You can't argue with the looks, aggressive.

Test drove the Xterra & Rodeo, but you can't beat 0-0-01 deal!

Strength:

Noise insulation, leg room, good ride quality on smoother surfaces(car-like)

Weakness:

Cramped hip and shoulder room, cheap looking interior and cloth coverings, seats uncomfortable, narrow cargo area, large wheel wells protrude into cargo area limiting it's usefullness, extreme torque lacking engine(car-like), poor ride quality on rough surfaces(car-like), tires don't get good traction in snow while in 4WD mode, doesn't offer Limited Slip Differential in LS package, very expensive.

I've used this car for 2 days as a rental, so this was more than just a test drive. This car may suite others better than me. I want a truck with ruggedness, that this car doesn't seem to provide. It's nice as a station wagon with a higher ground clearance and 4WD, but doesn't have capabilities that my Nissan Xterra has. In my opinion, I think a better alternative to this car, is a real car. Not a wannabe car or a wannabe truck. A real car with a high clearance and AWD would be better than this in my opinion. Other's who want a higher viewpoint with the traits of a stationwagon, are best suited to this vehicle. If a truck is wanted or needed, I wouldn't recommend this. This SUV is more car like, with all the limitations of a car. For truck ruggedness, there are others to choose from, as the Nissan Xterra. Of course this is my opinion, as other's opinions will surely differ.

Strength:

Great standard features package with utilitarian features that you can use. It's extremely quiet and comfortable to drive. Big storage area for its size. Solid ride, NOT underpowered, great looks, and affordable. Sturdy roof rack capable of holding at least 100 lbs. Manual shift 4X4, not some electronic buttons on the dash. Mitsu. Motor Corp. financing: 48 months @ 0.9% = less than $520 in total financing charges!

Weakness:

Rear seats aren't the roomiest and it has a slightly high center of gravity compared to my old trucks. The '99 came with car tires - which I replaced with Bridgestone Dueler AT's the very same day that I picked it up. Interior seat fabric and color wasn't ideal. We chose the leather over the cloth.

Great truck for any occassion. I've taken this truck on a variety of trips and its a great all around vehicle. The power is suffient to get through the snow, mud or travel the highways. It rides better with a full load because the center of gravity feels a bit lower and the suspension is a more plush. I'd highly recommend this vehicle for anybody except someone who routinely carries five adults. The solid factory roof rack accepts Yakima and Thule boxes and accessories with wing bar hardware.

Paid $26,600 with leather interior

Weakness:

A bit underpowered V6, if you wanted to tow anything of substance you would be strained to do so

The thing that really sold me on this vehicle was the dealer financing deal, if the truth be told. I have however come to enjoy it very much and have driven it on two long trips already (had it a little over a month). It did well from the Gulf Coast through the Smoky Mountains. I took it camping, fishing, and hunting as well and have no complaints at all.

I think it is a good choice for light SUV work as well as family duty. I strongly recommend getting the split rear back seat and a roof rack.

I got the LS version and paid 23K

Options, Ride quality, ruggedness and great looks. If you are in the market for the compact SUV. You'll look at the Chevy Blazer, Ford Explorer, Grand Cherokee, Nissan Pathfinder, Honda Passport, Isuzu Rodeo, and with the price of the Montero Sport LS 4WD model, you get a lot more than the competetion with a lot more looks and capabilites. The interior fabrics and layouts just make the American manuf. look bad.

Weakness:

Tires squeel on this rig. For some reason when you punch it on a 90 deg. turn the back tires want to screech out at you. It's not that bad though. I've read many magazines that want to say that the inline 6 engine in the sport in underpowered for this truck. I don't agree. It has plenty of get up and go without the horrible gas mileage of the V-8's out there.

Paid 29,590 for the Montero Sport. LS 4WD, Two-tone paint, Sunroof, multimeter, rear heater, bigger tires, roof rack and bug deflector. Pleased with results:)

Great looks, excellent interior. No major problems.

Weakness:

Cup holders suck! The battery died at around 2 years with absolutely no warning signs.

Problems: Battery life way too short, but no other major problems. The 4x4 switch broke suddenly and left me stranded in some mud (I got out eventually) and it was replaced under warranty. The truck is great, seats are nice, I love all the compartments in the cargo area. There was definitely a lot of thought in designing the interior, except for those damn cupholders.
