Strength:

This SUV looks and drives ok.

Weakness:

Highly toxic out gassing of interior plastics and leather can be a hazard to your health. Dealer service was horrible. The district Mercedes Benz rep never returned three calls.

My new ML 320 outgassed toxic chemicals so bad I got ill. No other new car I have ever owned did this. I called the salesman one week after purchase and told him about the problem. He told me to "call the factory". After three weeks I was so sick I had to get a rental car. I never drove the ML again. Mercedes is aware of this problem. After seven weeks of greif the dealer took the car back. They charged me over $2,700 for the experience. The factory was valuless. In conversations with auto dealers during and since this incident I have learned that my experience is not unique. Lexus when faced with the same problem takes the car back and returns the customers money. I pointed this out to the dealer when trying to get my money back. They said "Mercedes isn't Lexus". Buyer Beware!

Strength:

Acceleration is good. Spacious interior.

Weakness:

GPS is defective - a known factory defect. This car should be recalled.

I have been through two of these vehicles. The second ML430 -2001 was a trade in to avoid the problems plaguing my 2000 ML430. The major defect is the GPS/head unit which goes berserk and goes dead after the engine is turned off. This has been replaced 6 times! between the two cars. Mercedes USA was not very sympathetic. Don't you think they would get the hint that the GPS unit is REALLY defective.

I have owned a few SUV's and i found the MB to fun to drive. I handles well and has been great in the snow.

Weakness:

This SUV has lived at the dealer's repair center. Everything concern you have heard about it's reliablity is true. I have had problems with electrical system (windows that would not close in the winter), sunroof repair, cheap paint and finish, and door locks that have been replaced three times.

I have a love/hate with this SUV. It's a pleasure to drive, and the family loves it. However, I am extremely disapointed with the quality of this MB. I expected a lot more from MB

Excellent power. A true SUV--able to handle any road condition with aplomb and control. Typical Mercedes workmanship and engineering. Electronic gimmicks galore--Electronic stability program (ESP), brake assist module, individual wheel traction and control with programmed power shift to wheels with better traction, 10 airbags, etc etc.

Weakness:

None

An excellent SUV. For a Mercedes, lots of stuff for the money--cheaper than any comparable Mercedes sedan! The power is great for an SUV and can handle any kind of road condition. I feel secure in it. Wonderful combination of true SUV with all time four wheel drive, individual wheel traction and sensing. It is well engineered-- able to shift all the power to one wheel and move ahead when traction is present only in one wheel--unlike many of the other "fake" SUV's with "versatrac" or "fancy traction." As that is not enough, the Electronic Stability Program--ESP--makes the drive incredibly secure and on track. Love it. Recommend it to anyone. My second and certainly not last Mercedes.

Similar Products Used:

Lexus RX300, Acura MDX--all not true SUV's, use cheap "versatrac", no ESP in MDX

The engine. The 4.3L engine is fabulous in terms of pick up and power. Love the workmanship and all the luxury amenities typical of a Mercedes. The 4 wheel drive with independant wheel traction and control is excellent especially in the winters. During the days with one to two feet of snow, the vehicle drives like it is driving on a rainy day while you see other cars swerving barely trying to stay in control. The sky top is great and when it is rolled back, it reminds me of my other convertible.

Weakness:

The handling is too much like a truck. Being used to the drive of a sporty sedan that allows you to turn corners at 40mph, the driving takes some getting used to for people more familiar with sedans.

I love this SUV. It is an excellent SUV for all kinds of weather conditions. It may not drive as car like as other SUVs such as the Acura or the Lexus but for a true SUV, there is nothing as comfortable and luxurious and sturdy as the ML430. When the weather gets bad or the snow piles up, this is the vehicle I drive in and I am always convinced of my choice when I see the other cars or even SUV's struggling to stay in control. Strongly recommend it to everyone.

Similar Products Used:

Lexus RX 300 and Acura MDX--all too underpowered in comparison and feel more like sedans with fancy traction rather than true SUV's.

I get to drive a new car every week because it is always in the shop!!! I've met alot of very nice tow truck drivers all over the state of Florida.

Weakness:

It is a piece of crap. The dealership can't fix the problem. While driving the RPM are fine but the cars slows down and bucks until you can't drive anymore. MB has tried for the 3rd time but they already replace most parts and it's still does it. I'm afraid to drive it.

This is the worst car that I've ever owned. I have had it 15 months (only in my garage for 12 months). The dealership sucks...Mercedes-Benz sucks. 2k miles too much for lemon law. . Next time I will buy Japanese!!! Chrysler should stay out of the luxury car market.

Strength:

Powerful engine, handling is awesome, short turning radius is extraordinary, especially if you get lost and have to make lots of U-turns like me. "Class appeal"

Weakness:

Off-road capability is horrible, maybe the stock tires aren't aggressive enough. Numerous little lights will always come on, you will get to know your dealer fairly well.

Have owned for 2 years now, disappointed with the off road capabilities, but still love the vehicle. For the average buyer that will never take their SUV off road, if you test drive it, you will probably end up buying it.

Similar Products Used:

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4-Runner. Better on road handling, better power. Only if the dealers would have allowed me to off road, I might have changed my purchase.
