Strength:

The engine is fantastic, finishing very nice and not over the top. Seats comfortable and controls easy to manipulate.

Weakness:

The cup holders are a little cheap.

i love this vehicle. i did extensive research before choosing a SUV. i finally chose the mercedes over the bmw X5. I preferred the ride, the comfort and control I felt behind the wheel and i love the new 288 horsepower engine. i feel like i am driving a sports car. the turning radius is outstanding and parking is a breeze. The bmw has had several recalls and a fire problem that really scared me. I also preferred the service from the mercedes dealership from the sales staff telling me to take the car out as long as i wanted to a promise of valet service when ever i bring the car in. The salesman at bmw wouldn''t let me drive the car without him in the backseat. I know there are weaknesses in previous models and i am sure this will not be a perfect SUV but i am confident i have made the right choice.

Upgraded materials, fit & finish

Horrible electronics. Trip computer goes insane at will, setting the alarm off at random. GPS/command system is very complicated. Still many quality/build issues. Get one & you will be on a first name basis with your local M-B service department

Replaced my 1999 ML320 with the 2002. Better quality, and materials, but this SUV still has problems

Strength:

Acceleration, Safety & Sleek Looks. Incredible gas mileage for an SUV (we''re getting 21 mpg on average)

Weakness:

I''ll let you know when I find one.

Just bought this car used. What a wonderful combination of "German feel" and rugged SUV toughness. It was 3 year old Mercedes vs. new Ford Explorer. My used warranty (Starmark) is as good as the Ford new warranty. For cheaper, I''ll take the 3 year old ML320 versus the new Explorer any day of the week!

I have revied this vehicle before, here. This time I want to review Mercedes Benz of Houston. Avoid this chain of showrooms at all cost. The service department is nothing but lying cheating theves, and they are rude too. If you own a Mercedes in Houston, or are thinking of buying one, don''t let the slick showroom fool you, they are nothing but a bunch of used cars salesmen in nice suits. You have been warned.

Strength:

The concept is basically sound. It has the features that seem to make it safe enough for "mom''s car" and it certainly seems to be powerful for it''s size.

Weakness:

Certainly, Mercedes should be ashamed to put their nameplate on it. Either they don''t speak Alabamese, or Alabamans don''t understand high German! The build quality is the worst of any vehicle I''ve ever owned, including a brand new CHEVROLET CHEVETTE, which was more dependable. The back seat really isn''t comfortable for average to slightly taller people, and the storage isn''t really that great. Also, no armrest on the driver''s side makes you constantly look for where to put your arm. In fact, the armrest arrangement on the driver''s door side is inconveniently located. Additionally, don''t take your foot off the brake ever at a light. "Oh yes, Mercedes knows it has a problem with the idle, but they don''t know what to do about it." Also, as mentioned previously, don''t Mercedes doesn''t consider it a weakness for the transmission to "slip when it''s cold outside! As I write this, it''s 55 farenheit outside and I have a 2000 Mercedes in my driveway with the driver''s window down...again....and a transmission that sometimes jerks like you let your foot off the clutch, but remember, it''s actually not a weakness. Heat system not balanced. Can''t get comfortable in the rear se

The question of who should buy the car is almost laughable. Because who should buy the car is someone that doesn''t care if it starts or not, if the windows roll up or down or not, if the cup holders fall out or not, and not just once, but many times. The very first day I brought my new vehicle home I went out to start it. Soon enough the tow truck was there to pick it up. Then, the window problem, not once, not twice, but three times in one year, which wouldn''t roll up. Let''s not forget the passenger side window which rolled up every time with a huge glue smear that only the dealer could get off. Oh yes, the phone. Obselete when we bought it, or should I say after we bought it, but the Mercedes-Benz rep said and I quote "you paid for a phone, and you got a phone". He then went on to say that Mercedes was thinking about taking the phones out entirely...but NO REBATE, NO WAY, NO HOW. He went on to say that timing caused the equipment to be outdated. I thought Mercedes were engineering geniuses? Seems like a simple problem to predict. Each time I''ve complained to Mercedes, they just offer the runaround. Not the dealership, they know what a piece of junk it is. They just don''t know what to do about it except tell us constantly to SCREAM AT MERCEDES. They went on to say that''s the only way anything ever gets done. I didn''t think 43,000 dollars for a car would put me in a "class" where I had to literally scream for attention. Oops, did I forget to mention that darn GPS thing. They just could hardly ever get it to link on to the system. Finally, after they drove it around for two days it did work, such as it is. But we can''t forget the transmission slipping. "Oh, that''s normal when it''s cold!" Yep...sure enough. Whoops, excuse me, my wife just walked in and reminded me about when we were driving down the road and the plastic grill that covers the heat vents in front just popped up right in front of our eyes, but no problem...they just ordered us another one and popped it right back in......

Strength:

The absolute best turning radius-period.Mileage even while towing small fishing boat, overall ride A +. replacing tires very affordable 100.00 each.

Weakness:

Squeky external things, tranny whine once in a while. I thought this vehicle would hold up to 200,000. But I have my doubts now. I will be having a meeting with the dealer & factory rep on Thursday. We will see what happens .

Bought one of the first 1998 Ml 320s. I drive 40,000 miles a year. I had quite a few minor issues before it went out of warranty- I now have 128,000 miles on her.I get great mileage 20 all day. I am sick of the rear shock noise though. 4 Window switches replaced,2 under warranty, 1 goodwill,1 I paid for and 1 I installed myself.Rear door cable broke. Starting problems -never the first time leaky injector? dealer is still not sure. Praying my wife will let me get a new one after all the roadside assitance calls on vacations.I have had some very embarassing moments with others on trips. My bosses 250,000 lexus has never gave him a fraction of these problems.

Strength:

Safety, good ride, pride of ownership and good looking SUV.

Weakness:

No Quality and reliabilty for Mercedes Benz and very embarrasing for $ 41,000 SUV. Mercedes does not build car like Toyota or Honda. If you lucky you will get good ML320 with no problems. Cheap parts that Mercedes uses on ML320 cause some owners have problems and some don''t.

I bought this car because my wife wants it for safety reason. I knew this car does not have good review. I thought the fourth year of the ML320 has no problem but it is not true. My car only has 4000 miles and I have all kind of problem(some of the problems are intermittent)such as seat belt stuck, cannot load CD, leak washer nipple on rear window, alignment, door handle hard to pull, squeeky sun roof when open, rattle under the steering, and hard gas pedal. Most of the problem have been repaired except for CD and hard gas pedal. Mercedes has very good service compare to Toyota or Honda but no quality. Service does not mean anything if no quality and reliabilty on the product. I sent email to mbusi complaining my problems with the ML320, hopefully I will get the answer soon. I believe, the ML320 creates bad reputation for Mercedes. Let me tell you the good thins about this car, pride of ownership, nice ride and handling, good looking SUV compare to any others and good resale value.

Strength:

Overall quality of ride and handling - simply superb for long road trips.

Weakness:

Reliability and workmanship.

Have now 60.000K after three years, and things seem to (finally) fall in place. For the first two years the car was too often in the shop - never anyghing major, but small, irritating things such as a cracked rear pannel, glove compartment light doesn''t turn off, window power switches fell out, clacking noise in passenger door, cup holders falling out, rattling noise in the suspension (twice!), etc. Each issue was always competently attended to at no cost, but shouldn''t have occurred in the first place. The biggest problem seems to be two-fold: low inventory levels at the dealership, requiring (in my case) a 3-hour round trip to have the problem diagnosed, and another round trip to get it fixed. Second, the dealer network is so spread-out that one looses the better part of a day with each trip to the shop. Besides a crack in the fuel valve I havn''t had anything in the last 12 months - touch wood!

Strength:

Good all round performer, safe, assured, strong, reliable, MB rescue police (for life of vehicle), all wheel drive, brakes, mpg, looks, etc... Dealership is like a five star hotel; leather seats, customer cubicles with speaker phones, full service soda, coffee bar, fruit, all free. Almost makes waiting on the service department bearable.

Weakness:

Problems encountered: Battery @ 48k mi, replaced free in my driveway by MB rescue service Factory alarm, Fixed under warranty,no problem from dealer Fuel pump/gauge, Fixed under warranty,no problem from dealer Harmonic balancer, Fixed under warranty,no problem from dealer Gas strut on hatch, replaced for $30 One rear seat wont fold down, no action taken yet. interior squeaks and rattles (common to this year, but fixed in later models) Interior not very plush but reasonable considering the un Mercedes like price, this is Explorer pricing for heck sake. No memory seats/mirrors available in 98. Dealer service dept attitude, very sloppy management, technicians are good

Bought used 21k mi w/Extd. Warrenty (5yr 100,000 mi). Apart from past problems (see below) this thing is great. Pulls a big trailer better than a friends F150 (6cyl), good gas milage 18mpg+ at 80 mph, rock steady in all conditions encountered (no ice/snow), good off road work (for an SUV), I off road quit a bit, but it does get stuck in sloppy stuff. Better tire tread would help. Good cargo space, handles heavy loads well. I often load up the back w/ 800lbs of goods then add a trailer that has to weigh all of 4,000lb, and has the aerodynamics of a barn door. I have to remind myself I am carrying/hauling all that stuff at 65 mph with cruise on. All wheel drive allows me to power through when others are pulling to the side of the road in fear of the conditions. 20" allowable fording depth took me so far up a river (multiple crossings required) that I was still going when a party of ATV''s was towing a buddy out because he had flooded his engine. Full accelaration available in the slickest conditions. Low gear transfer case will pull a stump out of the ground (if the tires can grip), climbs steep grades like a cat, comfortable mudding one moment then cruising at 90+ mph the next (and safe, 2nd best mid-size SUV after the BMW M5), good A/C, brakes, anti lock. I love this thing. I have put over over 44,000 mi on it and I beat it hard all the time. No one beats up on an MB like I do. To me it is just a tool (no i''m not rich, just believe in using things as they were intended).
