Strength:

Looks great

Weakness:

Loud road noise Rough ride even after replacing tires Motor runs loud when at low speed Key hard to get in and out of ignition Gear shift in way of radio

Its the first brand new car I have ever owned. I wish I had looked around for a smoother ride. I had test drove one that road great but I wanted more features.I assumed that all new ones would ride equally as well but I was wrong. The car looks great and has a lot of great features but the ride is disappointing.

Strength:

great in snow.

Weakness:

needs to be wider, smoother shifting and no firestone tires

mazda is nice suv, except for the hard shifting, feels like my tires are slipping. Took to dealer was told that it was normal to shift hard and that my firestone tires were cupped thats what causes the cabin noise that I thought was my vehicle. Only have 22000 miles on it and bad tires. Call firestone taking in to look at tires, dont think they should be bad after so little miles have rotated every 5000 miles, but still want that hard shifting fixed drives me crazy.

Strength:

Rides well, looks good. High seating compared to a car makes for good visibility.

Weakness:

Rattle, rattle.. whooosh! My used Tribute came with internal rattles which were easily fixed by tracking down, then tightening up offending items (such as the pins the seat belts are fastened to). Tailgate rattled too.. the latch clattered against its locking pin.. dealer solved this by heavily lubricating the latch. Wind noise was greatly reduced by removing the roof rack. If you buy this car used, insist on a spare key from the seller.. since the car has "chip" keys which are expensive and time consuming to copy.

This is one great car. 24k miles so far and no serious reliability issues.

Migrating from a sedan to a compact SUV, I tested 'em all. This one was definitely the most comfortable and all-around satisfying in its class.

Extremely frustrated with vehicle, and particularly the dealership and Mazda Corporate. Itis extremely frustrating to buy a brand new vehicle and have it change gears the way this one does. It makes a very noticeable jerk and THUD when upshifting or downshifting. Mazda's response is that it is OK. I've driven cars for 30 years and never had one do this. I'll NEVER buy another Mazda product due to their lack of concern with this problem!!! And incidentially had owned a Mazda vehicle previously and was quite pleased with it, which makes me all the more frustrated with these folks, and especially the Tribute.....

Strength:

The power of the V-6 is outstanding and the vehicle handles like a sports car. It's short wheeel base and tight turning radius makes it a breeze to drive in traffic and in parking lots and the wide stance gives it superior stabilty. The sound system is superior for factory.

Weakness:

The seats are hard and the gear shift lever when in drive is in the way of the radio, but other than that it is a great vehicle

It was love at first test drive with my Tribute. Having grown up in an off-roading family I am very pleased with my Tribute's handling both on and off the road. I had two very minor problems with an interior door panel coming off and the center counsel latch breaking but the dealership fixed them immediately with no problem. I love the quick take-off with no hesitation and tight handling. The sound system is awsome and even the towing power is superior to other comprable SUVs. I like my Tribute so much that my fiance just purchased a used 2001 Tribute, so the family love affair with the vehicle continues. His Tribute does have a slight shudder when shifting into overdrive, but from what we have been told by the dealership this is common among 2001 Tributes.

I think the strengths are the sound system . Thats all.

Weakness:

Well besides it wont start and its in the shop now, It shakes really bad when it trys the change gears, The side panel came off, The deal er wrote mazda in between the tint and the window and it wont come off so now i have to get new windows. I am very dissatisfied with this automobile. I has let me down. I should of kept the honda!!!!!!!!!

I bought the car ago 2 months ago, the dealer told me how perfect it was and it was a best seller. He told me to buy one that was used by 1 yaer because it would be cheaper {yeah right}. I am only 21, in the military plus female so I dont know a lot about cars.m I loved the car until one day I went to pick my 7 months old son up from day car and it kept stalling on me and would not start. Here I am with a new car that wont start.Boy , DID I buy a dud.

Model Reviewed: Mazda Tribute DX-V6

Strength:

-V6 engine (although not standard on the DX, we have a DX-V6, and I can't imagine life without it!) -CD player and speakers are gret for factory issue! -The height of the vehicle is a great asset in traffic...plus it's fun to look down at the Blazers as you drive by!

Weakness:

-A little more thirsty than we expected.

My wife and I were immediately interested in the Tribute when we saw one on display at a local mall. Upon more serious investigation, we found an SUV that is comfortable, reliable, and affordable (even on a US Army salary!). We are very happy with all facets of the vehicle!

Strength:

Front wheel drive when not in 4-wheel, handling, interior space, power, looks. Great fun to drive on back roads. Great little grocery-getter. Something different from the sea of Escapes, CRVs, etc. Easy to maneuver and park (no land yacht SUVs for me, thanks). Decent gas mileage.

Weakness:

Driver's seat not designed for 6'2" driver with long legs (seat base is too short), overall cockpit ergonomics need to be reworked for us 6-footers (I've driven smaller vehicles that were more comfortable, e.g., VW Passat), seats are hard, cockpit is noisy (thanks to wide mirror mount design and windshield that's not flush with body), rattly rear window, tinny overall. A little concerned about future reliability. Not comfortable for extended highway periods (noise is tiring, seats are hard, steering wheel/pedals/seat placement doesn't work for me).

Our relationship started out with some typical problems (intake manifold gaskets causing fuel smell in cabin) and some unusual problems (cracked coolant reservoir causing coolant warning light to stay on; rear differential fluid leak through breather tube). All were promptly repaired by the Dealer with no hassles. Eventually (at 12K miles; with meticulous maintenance), the motor started knocking -- cause was never determined -- and was replaced by Mazda at no charge and with no hassles. No problems with new motor. We love the looks, power, interior room and handling. The thing is a blast to drive on back roads, unlike other SUVs we've owned. Haven't had any problems with it since the early months. Currently have about 25,000 miles on it. Will probably buy something different next time around, due to ergonomics.

Model Reviewed: Tribute ES-V6

Strength:

Size. Engine. Fun factor. Dealership has been very attentive and supportive in their efforts to fix.

Weakness:

Time spent at the dealership. Very poor Quality Control. Mazda needs to put some time and energy into fixing the many problems that plaque this vehicle. (parts supplier problems ??)

Bought it for the size, engine (hp), 4 wheel drive and gas mileage for a small/midsize SUV. At 500 miles steering column needed replaced. At 1500 miles the check engine light came on. Dearer fixed it. At 12000 miles it stalled without warning at 40 mph. Dealer tried to duplicate but couldn't. Stalled again at 17500 miles at 40 mph. Dearler tried to some air valve thingy and reprogrammed the computer as part of what they said Mazda said to try. Now car shifts hard and hesitates for up to 2 seconds when deciding to shift into overdrive or not at 45-50 mph. Both rear door hatches needed realigned. Door seals coming off on passenger side. Drivers side door rattles and window makes popping noises when going up/down. Sunroof rattles also. Will wait out the warranty period then trade it in for a minivan (Honda?) I'm done with Mazda !!
