Strength:

At this point, nothing good to say!!

Weakness:

Transmission problems on ongoing basis. Mazda Canada is no help. Very unreliable. Transmission will completely fail while driving.

I was completely thrilled with our new Tribute until we had to have door seals replaced after a month because of wind noise. Rusting at the rear wiper is extensive. Driver door locks unexplainably - which is fun when the truck is running and it's 30 below zero (and you're outside!!). 8 months after purchase, transmission failed completely. Had it replaced and 5 weeks later, the 2nd transmission failed. Still waiting to get it back from the dealership.

Size, style, handling, engine power, comfort.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, construction, reliability.

The Tribute has lots of great features, but lacks in quality and reliability. During the first rain (with only about 400 miles on the odometer), my Tribute leaked heavily, water flooded the front passenger seat and ran into the rear wheel well. It has also leaked through one of the side doors. There is significant rust on parts under the dash. The original dealer and Mazda Corporate are not being much help at all. I really like the way the Tribute drives and it has a lot going for it. It has features that cost a lot more on other SUV's and has great styling and comfort. It is a perfect size for me and easily handles lots of luggage or cargo. I can't give it a full endorsement, however, because of the obviously poor construction.

Strength:

- 4x4 in snow is fantastic - Sound of engine when pressing the gas pedal...like a true V6 - Plenty of interior room - Very hot air coming when the heaters are on. Execllent when temperature of -20C is from outside.

Weakness:

- To much brake dust in the front tires. Have to clean the rims every week. - Lots of wind noise when driving over 80Km/hr - The rear wiper not very usefull during winter weather. Does not clean the back window at all - Airbag indicator light problem - Too many visits to the garage for a new vehicle - Worried for reliability in the years to come.

It's a nice SUV with good looks and good power. There is alot of interior space and plenty of leg room. I'm 6'4 and leg room is sufficient. However, after a month of owning the vehicle, I had to bring it to the garage because of rattling noise coming from the lift tail gate in the back trunk. Then when having that fixed, oil started leaking. Had that fixed as well. Now, 6 months later, while driving in the Canadian winter, I have the airbag light indicator coming on-off (it starts to flickers, then stays on for the whole ride) on occasion. It does not happen all the time. It happened about 4 times within a month. I guess another call to the dealer to have this looked at. Has anyone else had this porblem with the airbag indicator light? Other than that no problem.

Strength:

It is nice to finally own a vehicle that turns heads once in a while. The front wheel drile with on the fly lock-in 4 wheel drive is great in the Canadian winters

Weakness:

Location of Ignition. Dash warning lights. Stalling. No option to use key in passenger door.

I am really pleased I found this website to compare stories. This is my first SUV after 6 Chrysler mini vans and they are fun in the Canadian blizzards. I never though I would listen to Cds but just pop in 6 of your favorite and you are set. 19 mpg was a little disappointing but I drive harder due to the power. Like many complain, I have a stall every 3 months usually during a coast period or going down hill. My emergency brake light warning light stays on all the time and door sealant trim on passenger side falling down. I don't use remote openers so no key hole on the passenger door is a pain. Now my biggest problem is the front passenger door won't open. It is stuck in the lock position and will get it checked out this week. Now that I have read all the horror stories, I would do research before buying another Tribute but the next couple of years with mine will likely answer that question

Handles great. Fun to drive. Good stereo with the 6 CD player. ** A must have- leather seats with power drivers seat- it makes all the difference in the world! I tried the tribute without leather seats it was very uncomfortable. If you're considering a tribute go for the top of the line- there's a big difference in car but not in price.

Weakness:

A bit of wind noise at 50 mhp and up. Needs to have a light in the ignition.

We've had the car since 2000 when they first came out. We've got 30k and so far nothing has gone wrong! The car drives really well. I looked at other Tribute reviews and it appears there's a lot of shifting problems- we haven't experienced any problems..

Strength:

I am still pissed off about the brake lights and the stalling that I can't really think of anything good to say right now besides that fact it looks good.

Weakness:

3 times the car wouldn't start/stalled and I only have 2000 miles on it! The best part was when I had a friend follow me to the dealership to fix that problem and she told me that the brake lights were flashing (like a strobe light) and I wasn't hitting the brakes. Add that to poor gas mileage and the road noise. I am hoping these problems won't snowball into bigger ones in the fututre.

The car looks great and handles well. I think it is quite comfortable and has a ton of room. Please learn from me though and don't buy a car because it looks good!

Strength:

Lots of power -- this truck kicks you in the pants when you push the pedal down. Smooth transmission that doesn't miss a beat even when going up steep mountain roads (I have automatic). 4WD handles snow and ice easily, and ABS mixed in makes winter driving almost fun. Travelling up the narrow Mt. pass nearby to get to the ski-lift (9400ft) the Tribute handled the twists, turns and icy roads with grace and poise, taking everything I threw at it with sure-footed ease.

Weakness:

None that have become apparent. I have read complaints about fuel efficiency and transmission -- in the several thousand miles I have kept carefull track of fuel use (the Trib doubles as a business vehicle) and I get a consistent 20.6 mpg, city or freeway (poor driving habits are to blame for 99.99% of all gas complaints). Transmission is a joy.

The best ride in a truck or SUV that I have ever had. It combines a very powerful engine, a smooth transmission and excellent braking to turn this SUV into the best handling truck in its class. In fact, having extensively driven Explorers and Tahoes this small (yet large feeling) SUV delivers the goods. Having driven extensively at altitudes ranging from 0 - 10,000' in all types of weather and road conditions, I am suprememly happy with my purchase decision.
