Strength:

Just switched from a 1999 Expedition. The extra quietness, smoother ride and more powerful engine seen like enough reason to be happy about making the transition. We could have gotten the 2001 Expedition, but by the time you add up all the extra's such as load leveling suspension etc you come close to the price of the Navigator. And you still don't have the air conditioned seats, heated seats that have a temperature control (no more burned buns), somewhat nicer trim level, memory seats and mirrors, heated and signal outside mirrors, great radio-heater cruise controls on the steering wheel ...

Weakness:

Nothing yet, but I;m sure it's going to be hard to pass gas stations. On the 99' Expedition, I never got better then about 11 city and 13-4 hiway. If I can get close to this it won't be too bad, expcept the Navigator requires 91 Octane. Small annoyance---The remote door opener is also suppossed to adjust the mirrors and drivers seat. The owners manual tells how to program. It's impossible to accomplish. I hope the dealer can do this, but when I called, they were clueless. They did volunteer to read the owners manual when I came in for service.

For a couple of thousand more than an Expedition, it seems like a no brainer, if you can swing it.

I did look pretty carefully at the Lexus 470, Acura MDX, MB 430, and similiar vehicles. Non of them have the power and towing capacity. I tow large boats and this seemed to have the higherst towing capacity if you didn't want to consider Excursions and Surburbans which are just too damn hard to park.

I have had two Expeditions, one Suburban with 7.4 L engine, one Tahoe. Only time will tell how this really stacks up. So far everything works perfectly. Ford has had enough time to get the bugs out. But so far I really like the feeling of the vehicle. the steering ratio seems different the both of my Expeditions making it less twitchy on the highway.

Strength:

The front end grill and headlight configuration is the most beautiful of any on the market. It's very quiet due to the extra insulation. The air suspension provides a cushy ride that I prefer over my BMW 740iL on a long trip. A solid vehicle that would hold together forever, which is perfect since you may never want to trade it in.

Weakness:

Two of the Continental Conti-trac tires seperated at 28,000 miles. There was plenty of tread left, having rotated them every 5k miles. Then found out that Continental made the only tires in that exact size. Fortunately other companies made similar tires that do not affect the calibration. I
couldn't pull the front two remaining tires off fast enough. Very scary in light of the recent problems with Firestone. This vehicle can't seem to hold a front end alignment, even with the replacement of front end parts. The placement of the seat control knobs will catch on your shorts when sliding off the seat. Mushy brakes. In order to obtain a beautiful ride on the freeway and city streets, cornering was sacrificed. It really pitches on corners and mountain driving. Perhaps aftermarket anti-sway bars would help.

Even though I have a few issues with the Navigator, I would not hesitate to buy another one. There is nothing out there on the market that I could upgrade to. I ordered this vehicle without test driving it and I have never regretted it. As far as safety, with the size and weight of the vehicle, if I am involved in an accident I'm sure I will win.

I do not own a Navigator, but hopefully in the very near future I will. I've done research on these SUV's and , as a matter of fact, I try to visit any website I can find that has any information on the Lincoln Navigator. The Navigator is the most beautiful SUV...most beautiful automobile that I have ever seen in my life. I haven't had the chance to drive one yet, but when I do I know that it will be a very enjoyable experience. Everyone in my family knows how much I want to own a Navigator. When I pass the local Ford-Lincoln dealership, I always slow down to get a glance at the SUV that I hope to be able to afford one day. It dosen't even have to be new. As soon as it is possible, I will be the very proud owner of a Lincoln Navigator. I have three small children and there safety is very important to me, and I know that the Navigator will provided the on-road safety and manuverability needed to provide a safe ride for my family.

Strength:

Definately the size -- can seat a lot of people comfortably, with head and leg space for taller people. Rides like a dream on the highway. Many positions for driver seat/ along with the forward/lowering pedals for shorter/taller people.

Weakness:

Not able to have a sunroof without losing the heat/aircond. in rear seats, rear seats sometimes hard to fold down/move up.

(1999 Model) - Great vehicle - I love it. Since driving the Navigator would not go to standard SUV or car.

Strength:

Very powerful, I can actually burn some rubber at take off (not wanting too but knowing I can is good). Excellent turning radius. Cools down the interior fairly quick, If left out in the Texas sun.

Weakness:

Sucks down the premium I've gone from 12.5 avg to 10 avg in about 3 months. The rear wiper gets stuck constantly. I can't find safe parking spaces.

I am overall impressed by the ergonomics of this vehicle. Everything seems to be well placed and well spaced out. The seats are comfortable and allows you to sit in multiple positions without sacrificing road vision. The sound system is superb for such a large vehicle. The A/C can really beat this Texas HEAT. I like the fit and finish and all of the wood grain available for it. Me and my family feel safe and comfortable in it. I definitly love the look. It may look like an SUV in tuxedo clothing but it doesn't mind getting down and dirty with the best of the off road vehicles (so long as you give it a bath afterwards).

I've never owned but have driven the Expedition, guzzles gas the same but not premium. Rides horrible by comparison to the Navigator. I've test driven the LX470 and it drives better and has better fit and finish to it's interior, but it just does not have look of a luxury SUV, the Navigator stands out of the crowd. The LX470 is way over priced and still reminds of a Land Cruiser.

Continental tires absolutely stink!! Have had them changed to Michellens on both navigators which is a worthwhile change. Wake up Lincoln!!!!
Not crazy about gas mileage, but I wouldn't give up any power, so - - - -

Great vehicle!!! - this is our second nav, family fell in love with the first one, a '99. Great combination of room, luxury, safety, dependability,. surprisingly reasonable handling, parking, etc, considering it's size. Keep looking at all the others, but always end up with Lincoln all things considered.

Strength:

Nice ride for the price. Nice stereo equipment.

Weakness:

Gas Guzzeler. It's a glorified Expedition. Way overpriced ! ! !!

I tried to sell this car after two months. The steering radius is horrible and my most disappointing factor was how the dealer mislead the gas milege. They assured me it would be the same as my Land Rover Discovery. That was a joke. I get 9-10 miles to a gallon of gas. My discovery got between 14-16. (City driving). It is also way to big and the storage area is much smaller than my landrover. The back windshield wiper has been fixed twice. The leather can't compare to Land Rover.
