Strength:
Very very smooth ride, great leather seats, awesome stereo system. spiffy handling and acceleration...Great lexus service but expensive. Controls are great.
Weakness:
You need to change the tires if you plan on going on the snow without chains. I totally skid when I took it up to mammoth mountain during a light snow...it wouldn't stop for sh*t. But after I got the truck tires...it worked a lot better. The trunk space could use an extra foot...super small. Needs more leg room for the driver...it's made for people who are 5'5". Electrical problems galore... Great everyday car, ive put 83k miles on it since 98. Lexus service at Glendale CA has been great. It's not an off road car for sure... definitely a city driving car. if I could do it again...id just get the 4x2...and buy a truck 4x4 since it doesn't have enough space to pack your gear, and is too wimpy for the outdoors. On the service record...i guess im just one of the unfortunate to buy the first models when it came out. I had several electrical problems with tail lights and interior lights not functioning. Also, after 80k miles...i had to replace the transmission...ouch! Im getting around 17.8mpg on freeway for some reason. But Overall it has served me well...and for the price, it's ok. Strength:
Overall looks Stereo Drive is impeccable Service has been outstanding
Weakness:
No distance to empty on trip computer, need it desperatly with that iddy biddy tank. I love it! It's a great SUV with overall curb appeal. Bought it because it was the tightest vehicle I had driven in the past two months. I was completely dumbfounded of a vehicle with so little wear and tear and having 45000 miles. I'm a general contractor who needed something a bit more practical than a vette. (dad totalled it:( Was forced into looking and completely happy I jumped on the SUV bandwagon. It still has 5000 miles left of the original warranty! The stereo is the ^%&$#, great bass. Well appointed interior. Sexy on the outside, intelligent on the inside. Do it, buy one! Strength:
Drive and handling. Comfort is outstanding. Easy to operate all features.
Weakness:
No radio control on steering wheel. The best ride and handling for an intown and highway driver. Not an off-road vehicle. Fit and finish are superb. The sound system is quite good. I tried an MDX...barf! It was an overgrown Honda. Similar Products Used: Also have a Honda CR-V. |

Strength:
Better ride than the MDX. Better looks than the Mercedes.
Weakness:
No low gear for 4WD (not a true off road vehicle). I have been thinking about buying an Acura MDX to replace my aging minivan. During our test drive of the MDX, I noticed that there wasn't as much elbow room as the van and just accepted that as one of the features I was going to miss with a purchase of a SUV. Then I test drove an RX300 and was very impressed not only with the room, but also with the ride. Everything is top notch and the sticker didn't have an added dealer markup on top of the MSRP. |

Strength:
Smooth comfortable ride. Efficiency. Reliability. Easy in and out. Durable.
Weakness:
Wind noise on this model above 75mph. Have heard this was corrected with the rear spoiler. My right knee (I'm 6'2") seems to rub against the center console which can be slightly uncomfortable on long drives. Cup holders are cheap. In dash CD player cartridge is horrible. I purchased this car when they first came out and have now owned it for over four years. The car has been exceptionally reliable with a weak seatbelt pretensioner being the only item requiring attention. A very well designed vehicle with a very efficient and powerful 3.0l engine. I don't tow so I wasn't looking for a V-8 which seems to be common in most other SUVs. This is a very comfortable car and a bargain when considering the quality and technologically advanced drive train. Excellent finish and fit. Weakness:
"I agree with the other reviewer who pointed out that there is absolutely no storage space in the vehicle AT ALL!!! I find it extremely difficult even to find a space to put my cell phone while it is charging. The cup holders for the rear passengers are placed next to the front seats which is so wierd I have not seen anything like it before!!", "I have decided that I will be returning this vehicle at the end of my 36-month lease. Lexus can then scrap it because the metal is worth more than this SUV itself." "The navigation system cannot find any point of interest locations at all. I live in the Los Angeles metro area and it does not have information on "7-eleven" or "McDonalds". One also cannot locate the "nearest gas station" - you have to type in the name like "Mobil", "Arco" which is really lame. In the MDX I was able to highly customize the directions to my liking. The Acura Navigation had all this and much much more! Unlike the Acura system the Lexus unit is not very accurate in its instructions." I quote Jim Cavallerano, from Newport beach, CA, Review Date January 20, 2001: "Everytime I drive this vehicle I hate it", "I regret leasing this vehicle and if I could I would return it right away", "Unfortunately the flaws in this vehicle become apparent only after a week of ownership" "The bottom line - get the MDX, you will be much happier." Similar Products Used: Thanks Jim. I appreciate your experience and all other negative ratings this car so much that I will be picking up my 2002 Acura MDX w/touring on 6/8/02. Thanks again!! Mike |

RX 300 AWD
Strength:
Good looks, smooth & quiet ride, comfortable seats, lots of cargo room, great sounding stereo and a high resale value.
Weakness:
Would like see cruise and stereo sound controls on the steering wheel. Controls are laid out well on the dash, but several of the main controls all look similar and you have to pay extra attention making sure your adjusting the desired control. After much test driving, this was the best in class. My 6''5" frame fits great even with the moon roof. Most other SUV''s tested drove like trucks or transmitted noises into the cab areas. Even Toyota''s Highlander which is built on the same chassis was harsh riding and transmitted the noise of tar strips into the cab. While it is not an off road tpe vehicle - it glides through the snow with ease. The VSC (vehicle skid control) works great if you get the car in a panic slide. The resale value of a 3 yr old RX 300 here in Calif. is very high -within $6,ooo of a new car. The seats are very comfortable on long trips and the kids enjoy the reclining back seats as well. All this and quality workmanship. Make sure you go through one of the internet buying services - their prices were alot lower than what the dealers were offering (and no haggling or pushy salesmen to boot). Weakness:
Room,Handling Overall not a bad car. Have had a few problems you would not expect out of a "top" quality vehicle. Sun visor on driver side will not stay up, warranty is out and is going to cost 200.00 plus to fix. |
