Strength:
Unique looks, good motor, good space, inexpensive for a luxury brand
Weakness:
air conditioning just average , heat too takes a little longer to come on in winter Great running vehicle. Inside very comfortable and good visibility.Takes regular gas and not too little. Rear seats very comfy too, luggage space just average. A terrific brand name for the price of a Honda CRV.We have lots of snow in Winter and this baby is very good as it also has traction control and ABS.Motor managment is from SIEMENS. A great buy ! Freelander HSE
Strength:
I decided on the Freelander because it was different, luxurious, good ride/handling. Great Stereo, amazing navigational system, Sport shifter. Rich leather interior.
Weakness:
A/C could be stronger. Transmission balky at times. Door sills could be better padded. Drove several mid-sized SUVs and came away most impressed with the Freelander. It is a vehicle of distinction and those are the types of cars I prefer to own. I drove the Rav4, CRV, Axiom, RX 300,M class,Mountaineer, and others. It may seem pricey when you start comparing it to others in its class, but then again it is not an ordinary SUV. It is distinctly British! I would have liked to see some features added that I have had on other vehichles in the past but I would not take points off because this truck didn't have them. But as long as you asked... Express up/down power windows. One touch open/close moon roof, Lit steering wheel Radio/cruise control buttons. speed sensitive auto locking door locks. integrated key/remote control fob. Power seats with memory. Similar Products Used: Bronco II, Rav4,CRV,RX 300,Pathfinder, Mountaineer |

Freelander HSE
Strength:
Not your everyday SUV. Navigation system, Harmon Kardon Stereo, Driving position, nearly no blind spots.
Weakness:
See Summary, I would not call them weaknesses, more like a wish list. I drove several small to medium SUVs and several of them were too car like for my tastes. The CRV was refined but I found it to be quite ordinary. When I got into the Freelander it felt bigger/roomier than it appears on the outside. It was luxurious by comparison to some of the others in its size class. The ride is good for a truck not as good as others in this class. Would have liked to see grab/assist handle on driver's side, power up/down on all windows or atleast driver's. Speed sensitive door locking. key/remote combination. Power seat(s), memory would have been nice too (at this price point) Lighted Steering wheel controls for stereo and Cruise control. Love the Nav system. I call him Jeeves, the butler! Strength:
Off-road abilities, electronic hill descent control, passenger comfort.
Weakness:
Lack of space for luggage. Some question marks over build quality. A good compact family car with real off-roading abilities. It has many of Land Rover's traditional attributes but is built on a monocoque chassis. A little cramped for luggage space but quite a rommy passenger cabin. In the UK, its premium pricing reflects the perceived image Land Rover has, however there are other SUVs out there which do as good a job but are cheaper. I ended up buying a Nissan X-Trail instead. You can't buy this car in North America, although Nissan do sell it in Mexico. Its an excellent alternative to the Freelander, for substantially less money.
