Strength:

Can't think of one

Weakness:

Everything, the brakes and rotors are the worst, maintenance is extremely expensive!

The worst car I have ever owned. This vehicle is a replacement vehicle for the first freelander I had that turned out to be a lemon. The dealers treat you second rate and will behave like they have never heard a single complaint about the car. The first 2002 freelander I had, had to have the rotors replaced 5 times in a year, which prompted speaking with a lawyer over our states lemon law. Land rover settled with us without a lawyer and we receieved a 2003 land rover with just as many problems. The rotors and brakes were replaced after 6000 miles, the car stalls out when starting or slowing the car. Honestly I can't believe that I have not been in a wreck yet!

Over all poor. Dealer is hard to deal with. Not one redeeming feature.

It doesn't get worse than this. It will change your life. You must live near a dealer for constant maintanience. Get ready to shell out lots of money. Brakes and tires twice a year is a given. Don't drive if you are tall. You can easily kick the key while driving. I'm lucky to me alive. No pwer, rough ride. Junk

It looks good in the driveway. After you sppens thousands of dollares to keep it running, the dealer will wash it for you after they get the check.

Weakness:

You'll require brakes and tires often. electronic switches fail. Mintainance is a fortune.

Substandard in every way. Extremely expensive to maintain and repair, which will happen often. No redeeming features.

I have not found one yet. Possibly you feel like you look good in it because it is a Land Rover?

Weakness:

Sub par brakes. Rediculous scheduled maintenance costs to keep the warranty in effect, thirsty!, air conditioning is weak, poor acceleration, always some warning light coming on, in short it is too expensive to maintain.

I had high hopes for this car and have been nothing but disappointed. If I don't get rid of it soon I will be living in a box because of what it costs to maintain it. The brakes self destructed at 30k miles and needless to say it will not be cheap to repair. About $550. The warranty, I pay $400 dollars every 12K miles to keep in effect does not cover brakes. Shocker! Futhermore it drinks gas as though it were free. Always some little somthing breaking down. Land Rover does not care about your problems and though very polite will not stand behind the car. I should have bought a nice reliable Japanese car.

Strength:

Warrenty goes for four years or 50,000 and you will need it. It handles excellently on wet pavement and in snowy conditions.

Weakness:

Many little parts (and some not so little) break - often. Also, replacing brakes every 10 - 15 thousand miles is nuts.

The quality of this vehicle and the service I have received from the dealer are poor. This car has multiple issues. I purchased this vehicle new and in the ten months I've owned it, I've had the idle motors replaced, air handlers to the fuel injection pumps replaced, wireing that controls the traction control and hill desent lights, plus the brake pads and rotors went at 13,000 miles. All but the brakes were under warrenty. The dealers responsiveness has been more less than satisfactory. If you have the time to continuously take it into the shop and the money to put into the car, it's a fun ride. Reliability is not it's top feature. I know there are happy Freelander owners out there, but there are also many unhappy ones.

Strength:

Low center of gravity, makes the Freelander feel very safe, no sway as with other SUVs. HK, Heated seats, heated windshield are great features. Fun to drive.

Weakness:

1. The Freelander is the "cheap" Land Rover. Your dealership and Land Rover North America will treat you like you bought the "cheap" car. 2. If you move or have to use another dealership you WILL NOT get a loaner, Land Rover does not have a universal loaner policy. 3. The A/C is poor (inadequate fans) & does not cool interior well, don't buy this car if you live in a desert climate. 4.Brake lights are poorly designed. The brake lights are in the bumper. Get used to people telling you all the time your brake lights aren't working! 6. Ever 15-20k you will need entirely new front brakes (pads & rotors.. cost $500 - using HDC will make the service on this even sooner). This is considered "normal" wear and tear. No warranty coverage. It is really cheap parts. Your rotors shouldn't need replacing that early. 7. The drivers seat will squeak, the sunroof shade will rattle & the passenger door will rattle if you have the upgraded HK sound system. 8. Service bays are not open on the weekends

I can't wait to get rid of this car. It's nickle and diming me to death, hundreds of dollars at a time. I put in a special order for the one I wanted (SE w/ Sunroof, heated seats, HK, fully loaded) and made it clear that I would be using the car in my move across country. I was assured by my dealership that I would be offered the same service in CA as I was in VA. Not true. my current LR Centre fought with me for a year on giving me a loaner & inviting me to off-road events. Fast forward 1 year, since owning the car these are the problems I have encountered: 1. If you buy the FL, you will be considered 2nd class by LR b/c you did not buy the RR or Disco. 2. If you move or have to use another dealership you WILL NOT get a loaner. 3. The A/C is poor & does not cool interior well, don't buy this car if you live in a desert climate! 4. Check your A/C coolan res., it may be cracked. 5. Brake lights are poorly designed 6. Ever 15-20k you will need entirely new front brakes (pads & rotors.. cost $500 - using HDC will make the service on this even sooner) 7. The drivers seat will squeak, the sunroof shade will rattle & the passenger door will rattle if you have the upgraded HK sound system. 8. Service bays are not open on the weekends 9. Radiator not well protected, small road hazard can damage it. New radiator cost: $800-$1000 10. You side mirrors will peel (warranty part)

Model Reviewed: Land Rover Freelander SE

Strength:

I think it has a plenty powerful engine for most driving (especially when using the sportshift function). The leather interior is wonderful. The back seat is comfortable. The alloy wheels of the SE model are nice and so is the steering wheel controls for the stereo and cruise control. I really enjoy the power sunroof, the Harmon Kardon stereo is great and the heated seats do come in handy. I like the shape and design of the Freelander as it is fairly small but has that Land Rover heritage in it's lines. I like that it has all terrain ABS and traction control. I am not a serious off roader but like that I can use it for that from time to time.

Weakness:

I'm not sure how good the A/C is yet because it isn't too warm here yet. I have heard that it can be a bit weak so I am concerned about that. I think the top-of-dash cupholder is a silly design and the placement of some of the controls are a bit scattered. And finally, I wish it got better gas mileage.

My Freelander was a dealer demo and loaner car, hence the lower price. I looked at numerous cars and smaller SUV's and found the Freelander to be the most unique. I hate to see myself coming and going and with this vehicle I don't. Yet, the dealer is nearby and is very helpful and courteous. I have read many reviews on this vehicle and find that I don't agree with much that is said. Of course a lot of what we all write is subjective and relates to our own likes/dislikes. I think in general, the Freelander receives a bad rap from a lot of people. I've heard complaints about lack of engine power but find it to be plenty quick for sane driving, especially using the sportshift function. I think the storage area is as roomy or rommier than a RAV 4 or a CRV and I like the ruggedness of the Freelander more than those two. I like the power rear window, the way the 60/40 rear seats fold down and I love the leather interior. Most of all, I like the way it drives. Much like a European sports sedan. In fact I test drove a 3 Series BMW and jumped right into a test drive of the Freelander. I'm not going to say they drove just the same but was quite impressed by this small SUV with car like manners, ride and handling.

Strength:

Some strengths are the styling, layout of the interior(everything is reachable and comfortable). The Land Rover dealerships are courteous and quick to fix things much better than the Volvo and Lexus, which my family has previousl owned. The drive is comfortable and pretty smooth for a SUV.

Weakness:

This SUV hasnt gotten enough credit for itself. The only complaint I have is when acclerating for high speeds it can be sluggish especially when cheap gas is put in it.

This Freelander is my baby. Out of all of the smaller SUVs I have driven this car by far had the best styling, drive, and comfort in a car. It can handle going off-roading very well as well as regular everyday driving.

Weakness:

Doesn't get enough credit as being one of the finest Mini-SUVs on the market both quality and price...

Please keep in mind this is in the USA... Out of all the car dealerships I have been to where there is the option this and option that.... This is the first time that I actually fell in love with a car on the lot and not ordering one special... I was extremely impressed with the features that come with the car standard... Frankly there just isn't a Mini-SUV out there that can step up to the plate with the standard features in this price range. The ride was incredible I feel very safe in this car... The brakes are outstanding already saved me once. The traction on or off road is untouchable in its class... I like the fact that my wife gets her vanity mirror on the drivers side while I still get the more rugid interior where gages and buttons are'nt all dainty looking and i feel like I am going to break one if I touch it the wrong way, found on the RAV4, CRV, and Saturn SUVs... Definitely impressed overall. I would rather have a B+ overall average SUV than an SUV with an A+ in one area and the rest is for the birds. Great vehicle would reccomend to anyone... Grandma, Father, Friend, college student... Its a Freelander for crying out loud....

Looks, Interior. Land Rover cache

Weakness:

A/C stinks. Serviced x2, Up to LR Specs. Not up to the challenge of summer anywhere but Alaska

Pretty to look at, fun to drive. A delight to own as long as the temperature is below 80 degrees. The A/C is very weak. Interior luxurious for the price. Leather is very good quality. Acceleration is average. Handling is good. No off road experience yet, but it should do fine.
