Land Rover Discovery
Strength:
It's actually not a bad car to drive.
Weakness:
Repair bills are a constant. This car is not for the faint of heart or poor of wallet. It continues to frustrate at the constant (expensive) problems. Air conditioning, oil leaks, rust, the list seems endless. After three years, run for cover, because you are going to be spending alot of money on repair bills! Similar Products Used: None. My first (and possibly last) SUV. |

Good looks. Feels at home off-roads.
Weakness:
Small stupid stuff going out. Always gas hungry. Very expensive toy! A true 4x4 off-roader with leather and a CD changer! My 96 Disco has 113k and I must have been lucky, just two trips to the dealer for minor stuff. It's been fun off-roading with it, but overall I used it to get to work and back. 55 miles a day. Just oil changes a tune-ups. You either love the rover, or hate it. I have to admit that I have both feelings about it. I had 6 other cars before, none made feel that way.(it's crazy!) Discovery Series II
Strength:
It's FUN
Weakness:
Gas, driving position I've already posted an extensive review (see below), but after reading so many incredibly negative reviews, I'm baffled. I have had no problems with the car whatsoever, and it's a joy to drive. Perhaps this is the old SAAB thing where there were good ones and bad ones, but if they were all built like mine, there would be a lot fewer negative reviews. Similar Products Used: Nothing compares off-road. On road, it's a very nice TRUCK, not a car. |

Nice design, excellent off-road…forget it, just see what they can do at: http://www.lrcsd.com/
Weakness:
A prefect SUV is like a prefect man, BORING! The brits know how to have fun. So turn that killer stereo off and listen to wind, put your swimming suits one cause that sunroof might leak, and be sweet to that dude from India at the gas station, you will seeing a lot of each other! After reading all reviews, I could not help but to laugh at some of them. Sorry if I sound insensitive, but what were they thinking? Land Rover is not in the business of making reliable dependable cars to commute on freeways! Each car they made, they made it with off-road in mind. In the case of the Disco, they did just that. Then they gave it that arrogant royal look. Of course if they had given it a better engine, a wider base and had it available in two-wheel drive, you would see Disco’s every where! But these brits would rather die than admit they are wrong. So they set out to make cars that are good looking & fun but expensive and hard to maintain. Knowing that somewhere someone will buy one. Like me! Do not buy this car if you don’t take it off-road, do not buy it if you looking for a reliable transportation for a 200k miles either. Buy it if you like the looks and the feel of that beautiful car. Buy it and go abuse it in the mud and snow. Knowing that you could still gave it a wash a take it to a wedding. I love my Disco. But I also have a Honda! Similar Products Used: Don't be silly! |

Discovery II
Strength:
Very comfortable. Well built. Extremely good looking. Materials used in the interior are top drawer. And HELLO, gas mileage is exactly what you should expect! It's too fun to drive. My wife loves it too.
Weakness:
I find myself enjoying traffic jams so I can spend more time in it! If you are looking for great gas mileage, clearly you shouldn't buy this vehicle. My usage in a year will cost me $300 more than if I drove an Acura MDX. I know that and yet I am willing to take responsibility that it was my choice to buy the Discovery. No whining here! It seems to be very solid, handles well for it's size, ample acceleration, and listen to this folks, it gets exactly the gas mileage I was aware of before I purchased! Next time, read the label before you buy. If they say 13mpg on the low end, and you get 13mpg, why are you whining? I looked at many other SUV's but found I was yawning alot while test driving. This is possibly the coolest car/truck I have owned so far. It's for someone who doesn't care about going way fast or styling for the sake of ego and who really just likes cars in general. For the car nuts' of the world, the Discovery II will not dissapoint. If you are buying the Land Rover to take your kids to soccer practice or to go to the mall and grocery store in a hurry, You should look at all of those wonderful but ordinary vehicles which are abundently available. The Land Rover is a little unique for your average soccer Mom unless of course, she is a car nut as well! Similar Products Used: I've had Jeeps, at least 5 over 25 years and one International Scout in the early 70's. We always liked our Jeeps but I feel they have become a little too mass produced and have lost the uniqueness that we enjoyed with our Jeep Grand Cherokee limited in the late 80's. |

Weakness:
The transfer case ($3000) to fix. Clutch is expensive to fix as well, after 50,000 Miles. Nothing compares to this car. What surprises a lot of people is the fact that it also comes in stick. I am a fast driver and for a heavy truck, it can still fly. I beat many cars in races off a light and it handles very well when cutting other people off while making a shard pass. The height of the car slows the car down a lot, but then again it is a truck and it wasn’t meant for racing, but it will sure keep up very well. Taking it off-road is the best. I never got stuck in snow or mud and it even does well in the worst place of all, Manhattan. It takes the pothole on with no problem at all. Similar Products Used: NOTHING AT ALL! |
