Strength:

Heater is awesome!

Weakness:

Road noise, gas mileage is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

I have a 2005 Liberty Sport that I HAVE NEVER gotten better than 13 miles to the gallon with. Took it back, and they said there wasn't anything wrong with it, it needed to "break-in." Well, 2 years later and 14,000 miles and it has never gotten any better. The sticker said 17/21, and it sure would be nice to get close to that. When I went to trade it in after only 6 months and 3000 miles, I was going to have to take a $10,000 loss, so needless to say, I still have it and HATE every minute of it.

Also, the road noise is extremely loud in this vehicle. Have to turn the radio up just to avoid listening to the noise.

Awesome fuel mileage,
All the rental cars my family get to use every couple of months.

Weakness:

Quality is at a zero, and they wonder why the Jap vehicle sales are higher. One would think that with this many problems that I would have 2 million miles on my jeep, nope only 29000. I will not give up home though I think I am going to get a 4 door wrangler in the coming weeks. If anyone has any questions shoot an email to me at jkprose@yahoo.com

Worst vehicle ever owned. I have the liberty with the CRD diesel, which DC axed do to problems. I had tranny problems from day one, torque converter replaced and the engine was detuned. Complete new engine @ 3,500 miles. Rear end leaks, AC replaced, PS pump replaced, tranny cooler line replaced, Right now as I type the whole front suspension is being replaced, (new shocks, bushings, sway bar, control arms, ball joints, etc.) Jeep did'nt make a dollar on this vehicle because as of right now my warranty has covered almost 15,000 dollars in repairs. The 4 wheel drive is helpless at best, and I even have the upgraded transfer case.
The truck is also rated to pull 5,000 lbs. I have a 16 foot larson (Boat) that it pulls just fine but it takes longer to stop than a train. All in all the vehicle has 29000 miles on and is driven mostly by my wife. I could not imagine what would be left of this vehicle if I left the pavement with it, or if it was my daily driver. Since we have owned it we have had it in the shop for over 3 months total time.

Strength:

Decent power for everyday driving, great 4x4, good gas milage and handling.

Weakness:

Stock tires are garbage, I have the 4wheel discs and would still like more braking power, power steering pump is loud and is a common problem.

Overall very pleased with this vehicle. I'm a long time Jeep and Mopar owner. The CommandTrac 4X4 is classic Jeep and so is most everything else.

People need to stop whining, you bought a COMPACT SUV with rock-hard passenger tires on it, not a 3/4 ton pick-up with 33" mudders on it. Swap the rubber, lighten up on the lead foot and quit crying.

I'm getting around 23mpg on the freeway and around 20.5 combined (80% freeway driving). Mine also sees offroad use regularly and Michigan winters and I've never had any complaints, not to so I've never been stuck, but who hasn't when offroading?

People need to compare this vehicle to other vehicles in it's class, not to large SUVs, TJ's, and full size Trucks. It's a compact, but look underneath it and compare it to a RAV4 or the like, those things are toys compared to how rugged this thing is.

HORRIBLE CAR!!!
And I am a Jeep lover!! This was the worst Jeep I ever owned(3 previous)!! Over $1,500 in repairs in 2 and a half years. Service repair said that I got a LEMON of a vehicle and it was BRAND NEW!! Currently, I am trying to get the ball-joint recall and because of the high recall, I now am having other problems with the vehicle because I have had to wait so long. I will never buy another Liberty. This car has been so frustrating. It also does not handle well in the snow. I have never been timid driving in the snow while I have owned a 4x4, but this car scares me. I drive very timid and tend to slide all over the road and get stuck in places I should not get stuck!! Stay away from the Liberty!!

Good Power (on dry roads)

Bad in rain, Bad in snow, terrible gas mileage, 4 wheel drive system sucks. Too small.

Worst Purchase Ever Made!!!!!!!!!
I have had my Liberty Renegade for a little over a year and I can't say that I love it, I can't even say that I like it, Actually I HATE it. 4X4 sucks in it. There were reviews on the jeep website saying that in 4 low, a liberty was able to pull a semi up a hill. Funny, I can't even get out of my driveway! I have had several SUVs, but never one like this. I can't wait to trade it for something worth my while.

Looks nice, nice size.

Weakness:

A horrible gas hog, worst I've ever had. Could have purchased a much nicer vehicle and had a much higher payment and still been ahead of the game with what the gas is costing me.

I can honestly say that I do regret this purchase. I wish I had done my homework. Would love to be able to trade it in, but am unable.

Uphill power band

I finally found the combination for mileage and power for the 3.7L engine. I am getting almost 25mpg on the hiway and 19 to 20mpg average city and hiway. After many tests I found to get the best mileage and power to use the stock air filter, 70mph on the hiway, Mobile gas and cleaning the throttle body. I also put Zmax in my engine and it helped a lot.I tried all the different gas' and Mobile seemed to be the best. I also tried the K&N air filter and all that did was gum up the throttle body so back to the original. Going up hill was a problem but it is due to the poor power curve up to 21000RPM. I found that below 2100rpm if I take it out of overdrive that it pulls great due to the power curve. Jeep did not do their homework on that tranny and should have geared it differently.

Good looking.

Weakness:

Window regulator, ball joints, "silver" trim around the console peels off, customer service at Jeep, very bad on gas for a such a small suv. I will never buy a Jeep again!!!

I have a 2003 Jeep and one day while driving my window just slid all the way down and would not come up. I called Jeep and was told it was the window regulator. I researched it on the the internet and it seems to be a common problem with Jeeps, but they wont recall the problem and they want $380 to fix it!!

I have had an oil problem with my liberty as well at around 55,000 I am commenting on the other review. seems the only difference is I had Jeep cover the cost under the extended warranty they give you with all the jeeps on power and drive train. it only cost me $100.00 for one other minor item. what happened with mine was the oil light started coming on and then the lifters started to clatter so I took it to jeep they look at the car asked me for all the proof of oil changes and away we went problem solved. it took them a week and a half to fix but it did not cost me a dime. Check with you dealer or jeep directly it doesnt seem right that you are replacing the engine on your dime.
