Strength:
It has enough room for us and the kids but its not to big for my women to drive. The inside is excellent and clean. I love to drive it and know it will get me back and forth with no problems.
Weakness:
No cupholders!!! The valves are tapping for some reason and once in a while I have to put it in neutral to start.(Automatic Trans.,V6 3.2L) Some times it hurts up the hills but it does have 100000 miles. The engine needs to last until its paid for and then I will give an excellent review. Until then I just pray. Using synthetic oil at every 3000 miles and keeping the trans. clean will help tou enjoy the vehicle. Parts are a little costly and dealerships will rob you blind. Similar Products Used: The Ford Explorer, like all fords turns real wide. Makes you feel like you are in a truck. The Rodeo is makes you fell like your driving a car but when you get out you realize youre driving an suv. |

I like the look of the rodeo the most out of all suv`s. Lots of room for trucking around. Across Canada once, many trips to Boston 12hours down. Body in excellent shape. Like the high clearance. I have 31 tires on mine.
Weakness:
Rear end went very expensive to fix. Hard to find a used rear end with such a high crown and pinion ratio. Rattle in tailgate. Top heavy (found out this wen i ended up dirty side up. When winter comes forget about locking the doors-they just freeze up, sometimes they wont close in the cold. 2Wd in a Canada winter STAY HOME, or get a cell and a good shovel. This is a good Suv for someone that would not experience any cold weather. Although the engine has always started in -24 celcius. Their is a problem with doors and door lock even after they were oiled. Similar Products Used: I have not been in other 2wd suv`s |

None to list! Oh, wait, yeah, one, it could use better shocks. I recommend this to anyone who does not want to ride around in the monster SUV's. I think that craze is dying anyway, especially with rising gas prices. I say test drive the others first and I think you'll see that the Rodeo is the best quality and deal around. It comes standard with a 10 year/120k mile motor and drivetrain warranty...STANDARD! Also, 60k mile roadside assistance. I'd say Isuzu has faith in their vehicles. Toyota used to be the best deal but their heads got to big and the result was incredibly HIGH prices...blah! I guess someone has to pay for all of their advertisement, I mean every other commercial is a Toyota one. Similar Products Used: Ford Bronco2, 1989. I don't like Ford. As a matter of fact, I don't understand why everyone drabs that you should bye ONLY American. American cars are so much more money, for what? You would think they'd be cheaper, you know, on our side! Heck, they're not imported. Also, My Rodeo was fully assembled in Kentucky, so American workers were supported. |

price, we didnt even have to bargin with the dealer and got it for less than 19000 brand new, looks, quietness, ride quality, more standard features than most
Weakness:
can be overloaded pretty quick Has it for a year and have put 20000+ on it runs good and havent had any problems other than the rear windows want to roll down by themselves(approx 1/2 in per mo.) which can be noticed by the wind noise other than that it hauls the kid and the dog and all the trappings to grandmas house in comfort. we did overload it comming home after x-mas had the rubber stopps on the frame resting on the axel, but noted no handling problems would buy another one in the future Similar Products Used: we test drove all the similar mid sized suv and as far as power went no other 6 cyl. compared in adition the ford and nissan products were alot noisier. the toyota was good but once you as similar features the price went to 30,000 |

Good price, powerful engine (V6 DOHC, 205HP), Great legroom, Sporty looks, looks great on OEM 16 inch rims and Bridgestone Tires, I'm at 33000 miles and it still seems pretty reliable. I pay $30 to fill the tank and get 325 miles out of it everyweek. I thinks that's pretty good for a V6 SUV.
Weakness:
Isuzu saleman didn't know how to sell me Isuzu accessories even when I was asking for them, RPMs fluctuate (sometimes idles at 2000rpms or idles down below 500rpm and the engine will stall, I had it services and they still didn't fix it (Vista Isuzu)), Rear visor screws will vibrate off and you can lose the visor (Isuzu know about it and will replace under warranty), two recall notices so far (one for some loose rear axle bolts and another for the sun visor in the car), suspension needs improvement, doors don't always close with a good slam, stereo was poor so I upgraded that right away, cheap plastic in the interior (gets scratched to easy), paint is to soft (chips easy).....I'm sure there's more to say. I got what I paid for. There's not a lot of $20000 SUV with a V6 and the HP. I don't like the people at Isuzu dealerships. When I bought the car I wanted some Isuzu accessories but the salesguy wanted to sell me other aftermarket accessories, and the finance guy tricked me into getting the extended warranty by showing me two figures but did tell me that the better monthly was based on simple interest formula and the higher payment was based on compounded interest. I should've done my research and my own calculations. I got a refund on the warranty but my payments stayed higher but at least I have less months to pay now. Getting the refund didn't go smoothly either. When I got the 30000 mile service I paid $400+ but after asking two people at Vista Isuzu what was done to my car, they couldn't answer me or give me a list of what was done. Similar Products Used: '86 Jeep Cherokee 4x4.....too old to compare...but that Cherokee has more aftermarket accessories than a Rodeo. |

Dont like the $199 price just to change the trans fluid and you cant take it to your local oil express, dealer only. I purchased it in March 2000 loved it from the start but now there is just to many out there. Similar Products Used: Chevy Blazer 4.3 190hp To much body roll, |

Motor is powerful, no problem towing anything i've wanted to. Limited slip works well. Does very well off-road, auto is smooth and quiet. Skid plates protect your important parts.
Weakness:
Too low to the ground, needs more clearance BAD! Rear hatch does squeak, but so does a Chevy S-10 Blazer. Better shocks wouldn't hurt either (for off-roading) My Rodeo has been outstanding for 23,000 miles. Extremely reliable at home and off-road. This truck goes off-road, the limited slip rear end, and good gearing really help. Sharp looking ride and plenty of power to get you up and moving. The dash and interior are good, not too fancy your afraid of using your ride outdoors, and not cluttered you can't find anything. Ride is comfortable on road. The price, the warranty, couldn't be beat by other makers, it was easy. Similar Products Used: 92 Ford Ranger and Explorer terrible gearing got stuck all the time, and replaced trans three times, never again. |

Bought it Jan 1999 at 65,000 miles on the odometer. As of 2001, the engine is at 110,000 miles and still purring. I check under hood regularly and maintain on schedule. I feed it 89 octane petrol and gas treatment. So far, it has paid off. I have taken it cross country twice (Oregon-Florida-NY and back) and my trip was trouble-free, and it wasn't a easy trip. I had to tackle Wyoming as well as Northern California where I-5 closed AFTER I and some others passed through Traction Device Checkpoint. Performance on snow was great! No complaints on wet pavement. Ride was smooth and unusually quiet for such a cheapo SUV. Cargo space is awesome. I squeezed a twin-size bed set inside with tailgate locked and ready to go. Roars uphill confidently on 5th gear if you get enough momentum. Still smooth at 4th gear uphill. Stop-and-go performance was a pleasant surprise using stick shift. Easy to pass little Hondas. Fuel economy on the Hwy was about 20-21 for my 3.2L V6 - not bad for a guzzler. Part-time 4wd system is old school but easy to shift. I don't mind having to stop to disengage it at all. (Auto-lock hubs) Push-button 4wd just takes away the mechanical feel of a 4x4. But bottomline, the Rodeo is one of the last budget SUV's that is actually a real SUV.
Weakness:
Mainly in hardware. No rattles so far, but 2 cheap plastic bumpers that you can break with a pen. Power windows are starting to go. Automatic door lock system is now dead and useless. Vents don't close tight anymore. Top portion of the tire rack is starting to rust. I agree with other posts that the turn radius sucks royally. Very capable SUV. Crap dealership. My Isuzu dealer charged me US$1600 for a 60K tune-up. I requested an immediate trade-in for a brand new Volkswagen so they can absorb the repair bill at their cost. Fair enough? Isuzu was not interested and lowered my bill to $1200. (I know why- repairs yield high profits, and the manager believed he can move a new VW without absorbing anything.) Hence, this wonderful Rodeo may be my last Isuzu. Similar Products Used: Price, comfort and performance easily beats the mid-level SUV market. |
