car shakes at over 55mph, shifts hard into gear, doesnt start sometimes and takes long to start on others, rear seats rattle, blowing fuses, rattle under hood when accelerating, horrible warranty, no customer respect We bought our 1999 Rodeo in March of 2000 with 254 miles on it. In less than two weeks we had to bring it in for a front end alignment, problems starting, and for the car shaking when driving over 55MPH. Since then we have had nothing but problems. We have had the same reoccuring problem and have attempted to fix the problem 5 times and the car is once again suffering from the same illness. The problem lies somewhere with the transmission. The car "jolts" into every gear with a loud "clunk" and it is blowing fuses by the hour. (not joking). I have no use of my directionals, reverse lights, cruise control or a/c. The car is not safe for my family. I am currently seeking help through the BBB and the State of NH Arbitration Board. I want Isuzu to take back my leased "piece of junk" and payoff my lease. On top of having a useless car that I am paying for, Isuzu does not take car of their customers. Their warranty differs every day and depending on who you speak with. For one of my services my dealership was told that the part was covered. When the dealership submitted the claim it was rejected. I called Isuzu directly and was told that the part that was replaced was on the "outside" of my transmission and they only cover the parts on the "inside". Sounded like a bunch of crap to me. I never want to deal with this company again. |

V-6 Power is great. The Power option button is good for power at your fingertips. Very roomie, able to use it for hauling numerous items. Spare tire is under vehicle so not to get in way of door.
Weakness:
Mileage is not that great, but it's an SUV. Bought a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo with 18000 miles on it and paid $16000. This is the first 4wd SUV I bought and have been very happy with it. This vehicle was bought for my wife, however it is wonderful! We have loaded everything from chairs, la-z-boy recliners, shelves and also used it to move. The seats fold down for more room. 4WD on the fly is awesome. I have taken this vehicle on the beach (Outer Banks) to see how it handled int he sand. It handled like a true SUV, no getting stuck or bogging down. We even went off-roading the Shanandoah mtns, and it performed fantastic! Beating a BMW X5 off the line and staying in front is just icing on the cake. Similar Products Used: Have not used any similar products as of yet. |

Not sure! Haven't had any quality time with my car yet!
Weakness:
Brake lights; brakes; transmission slips in 3rd gear; cassette from the stone age doesn't work, but radio & speakers okay for a early 30's mom (I will be investing in a CD if I ever get it back) I wish I knew what I bought. Drove it ONE afternoon with no problem. That evening, the tranny slips out of gear going downhill 30 mph. I go back to the dealer, they say take it to our guy. He can't make it slip (because he wasn't asking the right questions--at that time, it was only slipping between 30 mph & 35 mph coasting flat or down hills, he was accelerating uphill and driving it past 40 mph). Tranny specialist says fluid badly, severely burnt and stinks like sh** (his words). Needs servicing, and even that won't "fix" it. Sure enough, made the problem worse. Now it's back in the shop, evidently getting a new transmission. Dealer sold it to me without knowing it had two brake lights out; bad brakes, which needed new rotors and pads/discs; and the tranny. I got screwed on this deal. At least so far the dealer is taking care of the repairs, but what will go wrong next? I wanted a good looking SUV, with 4 doors and good step-in clearance & headroom (I'm tall, long legs). I have a 4-year old and I'm in college, so I needed a good, reliable vehicle for commutes. I am still hoping this is the SUV for me, after all the repairs, but I am terrified I've gotten the shaft. Overall, it does look good, and I like the way it drove the only time I've actually driven the darn thing. I'll keep my fingers crossed. However, I will not be buying another Rodeo or going back to this dealer. Bought it at 94,000. Clearly the past owner/s did NOT do any regular maintenence. I know how to care for a car, so I'm hoping my gentle touch brings out the beauty in this vehicle. Similar Products Used: 91 Mitsu Mighty Max, P.O.S. after 95,000 |

Retards that don't know how to take care of their vehicle! Has anyone heard of the story about the workhorse that just keeps on going day after day and never gets any recognition? That's basically what the Rodeo is. They keep chugging along no matter what, if properly cared for. All these idiots that are complaining bought a 1998 Rodeo (the first year of the redesign) and expected it to be 100% perfect. WELL DUH or course there are going to be problems with the first year of a redesign since the entire truck was built over!!! Anyway, like the old workhorse, if you neglect it and not feed it, it will die, like the Rodeo. If you maintain your vehicles, they do last forever. Check out ebay. Some of 'em have 200,000 miles + on original parts. |

It looks good.
Weakness:
The engine...the brakes. Purchased at 28,800 miles, the engine froze up within 40,000 miles. Thankfully it was covered under warranty, but the second time the engine seized it wasn't covered, and the price to fix or replace it! Isuzu won't acknowledge an inherent problem that from research, I believe it has. What a piece of junk! I'm paying for something I can't drive! |

Weakness:
Inferior manufacturing of wheels stud and lug nuts, lack of company integrity and honor. I just would like to warn Isuzu drivers of the best kept secret of the manufacturer. This company has been notified by dearlerships that the metal composition of the wheel studs and lug nuts is so inferior that when removed, the studs shear off or the threads strip leaving the wheels to fall off unexpectedly. The Isuzu Company refuses to recall the wheels and ignores thousands of complaints from customers and dealers allowing these hazard to exist without abatement. Where is the so-called "Japanese pride in workmanship"? When you recycle your next beer can, think of it becoming a wheel stud and a family dying in a roll over because the wheels fell off. |

Terrible gas mileage, repeatative major engine problems, shakes like mad over 55mph, transmission slips, doesn't hold the road very good, etc, etc,ect....... How much more do you really need to know ? We have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle since we purchased it. We have replaced the head of the motor, and put uncountable money into working on the motor. It is still NO GOOD!!! We were told we need to replace the engine--yeah right--the engine alone runs in excess of $2,000 because they are such a piece of junk everyone needs one. We still owe more on it than it is worth. We would like to hear from anyone else who owns a 1998 rodeo that has experienced major engine problem (and other major problems, since it is not just the engine we have problems with). Please email us at bagshouse@aol.com. We believe that if there is a large enough number of people out there that have similar problems it may be a manufacturer defect, shouldn't we try to pursue this issue since we all put our money in their pockets already? |

Strength:
Lovely interior, handles great compared to other SUV's I've driven (this car does not feel top heavy at all), okay on mileage, this car has been taken up to the snow, down to the desert, through the mountains to the beaches, and I've always made it back home safely.
Weakness:
Breaks are a little soft, the cd changer it came with ate my favorite cd's All in all I think this is an okay SUV. I've had this car since it was brand new, have put 85,000 miles on it already and only just started to have problems with it. I am experiencing similar transmission problems as do some other Rodeo owners. The first problem I had was with the gears "slipping" when switching from 1st to 2nd gear. That was fixed by adjusting the linkage beneath the car. I paid $75 for a person to change the oil, tune up, and adjust the linkage and the car ran good as new. Only thing now is that tranny switch is acting up, the light stays in neutral when I put it in drive on the first attempt but goes into drive on the 2nd attempt. I'm hoping that minor adjustments will need to be made to repair that problem and I can get away with paying less than $100 again :) I do recommend this SUV to people who know how to maintain their cars. One more thing, my car had 2 recalls on it, ABS and something with frontal head impact. If any owners out there have problems with this, just give your VIN to the dealership and have them look it up, they replace it for free. Similar Products Used: Mercedes ML320 1999 |
