Isuzu Amigo
Strength:
Value, I bought my Amigo Jan 2001 as a carry over model from 2000. Got a heck of deal along with the standard 10 year 120k powertrain warranty which for a 4x4 is where you will most likely see problems occuring down the road. I love the slight modifications made by Isuzu for the year 2000 compared to the previous 2 years. Black on white instrumentation, more aggressive front end appearance taking styling cues from the 1st generation Amigo, and having the bumpers painted a titan grey versus the generic plastic look like before. Comparing it to the 1st generation Amigo, it has plenty of power, refinement, and great onroad ride. A better designed soft top, power everything and carpeting are definitely pluses as well. The new Amigo is surprisingly quiet, quieter even to my wife's Accord. Wind noise with the top up is almost non-existent and with the top down, very bearable. And did I say POWER. I pass at will with no hestitation.
Weakness:
The major weekness has got to be the very poor rear visibility. Other annoyances have got to be the push button 4 wheel drive being on the left side and then the high low range lever being on the floor on the right. I would have preferred having either both functions push button or on the floor. The cruise control button is right next to the 4 wheel drive button and I did have the situation where I had engaged the 4 wheel drive system while going down the interstate at 75 mph. Nothing happened but it could have lead to some serious driveline damage if I hadn't caught it immediately. For some reason, the cruise control on button doesn't stay on after you shut off the vehicle like most cars. This can contribute to the accidental shifting into for 4 wheel drive. Would like to have had a mist option for the windshield wipers. Very expensive assessories like the $250 rear cargo cover!!! The vehicle, no offense to the female gender, still carries the distintion of being a chick car like the Tracker/Sidekick line. Needs a more aggressive name, all ready taken care off for 2001, with a more mocho testerone image. Having experienced both the 1st generation and 2nd generation Amigo I would have to say Isuzu put everything into the newer Amigo that I had wished I had in the older one. No more stressing over wether or not I should pass someone because I lack the passing power. Air conditioning, adjustable mirrors for backing, a real rear seat with leg room, and storage cubbies in the rear area. The only thing the 1st gen Amigo had over the new Amigo was a very agressive stance shouldering large fender humps over the wheel wells. It was what made the 1st Amigo unique looking compared to its brothers the P'up and Rodeo. Personally, I would recommend this vehicle to enthusiats that are used to driving Wranglers and Trackers. It has even won over my wife a believer, someone who despised the 1st Amigo. Similar Products Used: 1990 Isuzu Amigo |

Strength:
Durability... I have had over 3 feet of air in this truck and it held up wonderfully... I have also had it on its side a couple of times and no troubles there as well...
Weakness:
flex in the front... not too flexy, but then again it is IFS... acceleration is kind of slow, however it does have tons of torque. This truck is a joy to drive off road... Not super great on road, but offroad it is loads of fun... Similar Products Used: jeep, toyota, other stuff |

I would recommend this car to anyone ! Yeah its the first car ive owned and i think its wonderful. The first time i rode in one was my friends yellow one, i instantly feel in love with the car, and ever since then i was determind to get one. Some people say theres have leaked but mine only did it one time, the sunroof let in a couple drops of water during a heavy rainstorm. But dont let anything stop you because these car look awesome and everyone loves the look. Similar Products Used: None |

Looks, fun,
Weakness:
Freakin' sunroof cover damn near made me crash when if fell off while driving down road at 60. Dealer tried to fix 3 times before success. Recalls, something in exhaust rattled and had to be replaced. Knocking comming from steerng column and dealer can't figure it out. FACTORY bug deflecter does not fit correctly and rattles. Dome light is haunted. Other than sunroof cover which dealers and sales people knew kept falling down (bad clips, that's why they are never in place on the lot) it is ok. Chicks love it
Weakness:
Expensive parts Ive had my amigo for 7 months and I love it. Its bright purple so chicks go crazy when they see it. With a convertible top and offroad capability it was meant to be on the beach. I dont know what these other people are complaining about but i love mine.I dont know about other people but my amigo has alot of power for a four cylinder. The only enhancment I have done to mine is put a 1996 Toyota Supra tip on the exhaust and i have beaten a s-10 extreme,a mustang, and a grand am GT. Dont plan on getting this thing stuff unless you drive into the ocean. Ive back into the ditch on my dirt road twice after it rained to see if it would get stuck but i just drove right out of it. No problem! It has alot of towing power too. I pull my boat with it all the time. Not bad for a 4 cylinder, huh? Similar Products Used: None |

Isuzu Amigo V6 3.2L
Strength:
The engine is pretty strong.
Weakness:
There are many weaknesses to list. Rear view is blocked by the rear-mounted spare tire and the two headrests. The horn is off a Toys "R" US bicycle. No one can hear you. The engine uses one quart of oil per one thousand miles driven. If I knew this I would have never bought the damn truck. The dealership says according to Isuzu the oil consumption is normal. I say there is a cover up and they should recall these trucks. If I wanted a truck that burns oil like crazy, I could have bought one for two thousand dollars instead of twenty. My suggestion is don't buy the Amigo. Mine is for sale if you got to have one. Oh I almost forgot...good luck trying to get into the back seat. I would not recommend this car to anyone. Not even my enemy. Any car that burns one quart of oil for every thousand mile driven belongs to the junk yard. However, Isuzu thinks that this is normal. I had a Honda Civic and a Honda Accord prior to buying the Amigo and neither one of them ever lost a drop of oil. I am surprised why there has not been a class action lawsuit against Isuzu for this unacceptable oil consumption. Similar Products Used: None |

Amigo V6 4x4
Strength:
comfortable ride, lots of power
Weakness:
rear tail gate. spare tire This 4x has one of the most comfortable seats I've seen. On long trips my backside felt like it was going to fall off. With the Amigo, no problem. It has plenty of power, (why buy the 4Cyl. I was very happy to see Isuzu come out with the Amigo in a hard top as well. The braking system in my opinion is weak. For me, the most worthless thing is the tail gate. I don't mind it opens to the side, I hate that the rear window can't be rolled down. I wasn't impressed with the RAV4 and the CRV. They seemed cheaply built fro the price they were asking. Overall I've pleased with the Amigo. Similar Products Used: RAV4 |

Isuzu Amigo 4 cyl. 2wd hard top
Strength:
i love my truck! people are always impressed with the great looks, dual sunroofs, and big stock tires. it's a favorite among my friends. after replaceing the head unit and speakers the sound system sounded great. the rear seats are extra extra roomy once you get back there. wind in your face factor isn't like riding a motorcycle when the top is off. cup holders and extra compartments all over the place. i can go anywhere in my truck. bumps and holes in the ground are no problem. but don't expect it to be super smooth, obviously... this isn't a car. customer service was pleasent at dealer service department
Weakness:
occasional weird noises coming from engine from 1st to 2nd, hard top is a pain in the @$$ to get off, but easier once you know which screws to take off. rear folding seat can only be folded and unfolded if the two knobs at opposite ends are pulled simotaneously. irritating rear latch on back door must be unlocked before closing the tail gate. territorial sucky gas milage the comes with the suv family. *doesn't like sudden jerking of the steering wheel at high speeds* almost lost control twice...doing fishtails down the freeway. doors don't feel extremely solid? i would recommend this truck to all those who've always wanted an amigo...and to all those who want a great and good looking suv without driving a mommy car. and it's easy to wash. so that's a big plus. it's great for weekend excursions and outdoor fun....but not alot of room for four people AND their eight suitcases. not for people who want a bigger suv:) and not for people who always have passengers riding in the back seat. that can get annoying. it's a two door, what do you expect? perfect for college people and thier friends who go on road trips. all in all i love my truck!
