big engine. no problems on Colorado Mts! Mecanically no problemes. Cute looking.

Weakness:

Soft top, I will never buy! eats many gas!

This is the wirst car I have ever had in my life. Eats tons of gas, expensive insurance, supposed to have cruise control, but eventually it did not have one. The dealer lied. THIS TRUCK can not tow anything because it has stupid soft top thing. Useless. Back door is like a nomarl office door, so it takes time to hundle. Hope this part is like a Jeep Cherokee back door. Soft top parts are always risky for breaking in. Once you become victim, you have to pay 500 buck for fixing this stupid plastic windows. I live in Arizona. Soft top parts are shrinking day by day. If you go Southern states, I would not recomand this vehicle. Get Honda civic for youre safety please.

Strength:

One of the few options to a Jeep Wrangler. More civilized than a Jeep, but still goes off-road.

Weakness:

Not a car-based SUV - this is a real truck that will go off-road without breaking things.

Have 65,000 + miles with no trouble other than several issues in 1998 that were covered under warranty (starter, gasket leak, fuel gauge sender fix). No troubles since.

Good power in the V6

Weakness:

Pistons, AC, ride comfort, visibility, burns oil, gas mileage.

This car is awful. I now have 65,000 miles on it and I've had it. The wrist pin is shot in the number 1 cylinder and that little repair will run me a minimum of $1500. My rear soft window shattered over the winter. The thing burns a quart of oil every thousand miles and I was told by the dealer that this is normal. Not normal enough to tell you when you are buying the car of course. Stiff ride with zero visibility. Sunroof rattles over the smallest bumps when it is open. Terrible AC. Rear door switch causes dome light to come on when you go over bumps or make sharp turns. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ISUZU IN MY LIFE.

Strength:

This car is very sporty and the chicks dig it. It has enough room to take whatever i need in the back of it and can pull some hefty trailer loads.

Weakness:

It has a very big blind spot and parts can be hard to find.

I love my amigo. When i bought it, it had 109k miles and it has always worked like a charm. It seems to always run very smoothly not too mention the ladies like the convertible. Although it may not go really fast, it handle just about any trailer load. You cannot go wrong if you buy an Amigo.

TRANSMISSION:$850 FLYWHEEL:$520 DEALERSHIP:RUTHLESS AND USELESS VISIBILITY:JUST PRAY ENIGNE:4 banger feels like a rubber band. BRAKES:ABS system is horrible. I WILL NEVER BUY AN ISUZU AGAIN IN MY LIFE.

DO NOT BUY AN AMIGO. Seriously, I have 20,000 miles on mine and it's already gone through 2 clutches at $850 a piece, not they are choking me for a flywheel ($520) The dealership is ruthless, they blame my driving for the clutch but I have a '89 Isuzu pickup with 170,000 miles on it and that has only needed the normal stuff. This car and this company makes me sick. The dealerships are utterly unhelpful, they charge an arm and a leg for everything, and forget about the "warranty". I'm trading this P.O.S. in and getting something that is worth my money. Oh yeah, after 2 years and 20,000 mi. the car is now worth $7000. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF AND PAY TOO MUCH FOR GARBAGE THEN GO BUY ANYTHING BUT AN AMIGO.

Hard to find. Aha-the power steering did not leak and the A/C worked The looks

Weakness:

You name it. Lack of power.Slow. Bad handling/esp. with bigger tires/ Very bad Gas milage for the size Almost no visibility in the rear view miror because of the spare. I an 5'6" and it was a challenge to get in the back. The soft top is very hard to remove. Road and wind noise very high. Everything vibrates. When backing noisy rr brakes. Not easy to work on. Bad expirience with the dealer.

The very worst vehicle I'v ever had.The only good think was the looks.I bought it from somebody who sold it for what was left to pay-off.When I got it it was realy bad. After valve-adjust and replacement of some gaskets and O-rings and patching the hole on the plastic part of thr ontace duct it was drivable. This vehicle, like many other has this stupid light, that comes on every 90000 miles and usualy people pay dearly for somebody to remove one screw in the back of the speedo from 1 hole into another.I called my friendly neighbouthood Isuzu dealer-Bell Isuzu and they were everything but friendly and helpful.Found the info in the library. When putting back the dash found the reason for the brocken speedo cable-somebody before tryed to fix the problem and routed the cable wrong/be careful if you do it/ After I was done rode the vehicle and decided I am not going to fix the designer and engineering problems of this vehicle. The gas milage was below 20,no matter what.Every time I backed up there was terrible sound coming from the rr rotors.Finaly silicone on the back side of the pads cured the problem/for how long I don't know/.I sold it at a profit and now when I see Amigo on the road always think "Happy not to have one" It is week sluggish rattling bad on gas bad handling antymechanic piece of junk. Me and my wife are driving 89 Sidekick and 91 Tracker and both vehicles are twise better vehicles than the Amigo.

Strength:

If we forget about blistering speed and acceleration (the 2.6 is weak to say the most), we get to gas mileage. My Blazers get 10 MPG, so anything more is a present, although a small gift at best. I like the transmission..it still has a nice "click" to it when it gets into gear...and the clutch needed a supplimental return spring under the dash to help pull the pedal up so the master cylinder could re-charge and work properly. This guy is tough! I thrash everything I own pretty hard..and it bounces back! I work on computer/driveability problems on cars for a living, and this system, although not too talkative, has no real tech problems. The check eng lite will come on if you get the engine below a certain threshold (starting up from a stop with too much clutch) and it goes out after it finds it was an driver mistake, not a glitch somewhere. DON'T IGNORE IT! IT IS TALKING TO YOU IF IT STAYS ON! The lights need auxillary help..I added some 150 watt drivers, and not I can see! The alternator is strong enuff, and if it goes out, I'll put a new style GM type in anyway. The floor position of the heater controls will melt your shoes. I like it!

Weakness:

The rag top leaves a lot to be desired..not the fault of the maker...the previous owner wrote on the windows with white shoe polish that she was a nursing grad, class of 2002. It won't come off. I'm waiting till the windows crack or whatever to replace the top..I just keep the rear rolled up so it cannot be an embarrasment while I drive it. I didn't like the exhaust coming in the rear when I drove it, so I removed most (see above) and now the air is as sweet as you can get in a cow/milk/dairy area, (Hemet, not the Amigo). I have to replace a rear axle seal...but I haven't done it yet. Just a little itty bitty seepage...not bad for over 1/4 million miles!

I never considered an Amigo as a decent vehicle...that's until I got this one. It was to be a throw-away while I built another engine for my K5 Blazer. Well, I fell in love with it. I got the Amigo with 264,000 miles on it, and the shop where I work had just done a valve job on it, and the customer abandoned it for months and we liened it..and I bought it. The interior had some ratty seat covers on them, and when I removed them, the material beneath was like new. I took the old rims and tires (32 x 11.50 R15 Remington Wide Brutes) from my Blazer, and yes, they bolted right on! (I had a little rubbing problem until I lifted the front torsion bars 2 turns); same bolt pattern! This little truck (I hate the SUV thing) is a real joy to drive. It corners like it's on rails..I took off about 3000 lbs of psychodelic exhaust pipes and muffler, and replaced everything with just a monolythic cat, and a turn out under the driver's door. People on drugs should never design exhaust systems. That gave me a lot free-r revs and some well-needed ponies! The paint is hearty and robust after a good rub out and real wax, there isn't a rust spot anywhere even underneath AND NO..REPEAT...NO OIL LEAKS! This has gotta be the cleanest vehicle I've ever owned. Oh..i also removed the stock cooling fan and replaced it with an electric one...good power increase here too. The interior plastic is perfect..no cracks like Euro dashes, and the seats hug me into position. I don't like more than 2 in a vehicle, so the smallness of the rear area is no prob. There is one funny little snafu that Isuzu has put in here. The controls and switches are the GROUND for whatever circuit they operate! So..to make a horn say, blow, the horn button completes the ground. You'll need lots of relays and a little electrical knowlege to make aux lights and such work. The A/C still works..the heater is fantastic! The brakes complain but work very well, the clutch could have a little heavier flywheel, electrically, this is a quality car too! Never did I ever think I'd like and Isuzu...I was wrong!

Burns Oil Accessing the back seat with a large box or something like that Alarm system Bumpy ride on bumpy roads, smooth on smooth roads

I really have enjoyed this car. Its very cute and I love taking the soft top off in the summer time. I just wish that I could find a hard top for it so I could switch it sometimes for safety reasons. But they are no where to be found. I bought mine with only 13,000 miles on it and now I have 41,000 miles and I have had not to take it in for repairs of any kind. I does burn oil, I am always a quart low every 3000 miles which is something I am not used to with other cars. I love the 3.2 L and V6, its very zippy and fast. I have had a problem with the alarm system. It kept going off in the middle of the night, but only in the cold months, never in the summer!! Weird!! Finally I just pulled the fuse and now it goes off if I use the automatic locks. But at least I dont have neighbors pounding on my door anymore in the middle of the night. Over all I love this car and I look forward to driving it every time. I have a really bright blue paint on it and I got the windows tinted and it looks so good.

Really like the soft top. I made my own quick disconnect remove it totally in a matter of a couple of minutes. Comfort is average. Looks and Styling are great, inside and out, way better than a jeep or similar vehicle. With 75000 miles, everything seems to be wearing well.

Weakness:

The 4 cylinder is an absolute joke. Typical of American manufacturers who typically underpower a vehicle the first several years. Finding parts for this 4 banger is a real pain. 3-8 days for unique parts and they'll really hit your wallet hard!
