First and foremost it is a pu$$y magnet. Speed, precision, power, power, agility, quickness, finesse, durability, handsome. Can drive through any terrain.

A few times its utter awesomeness has caused people riding inside of it to just collapse and pass out.

First of all, this is the greatest vehicle ever made. I could spend 5 days talking about all of its glory. I have owned many of cars and this car takes off just as fast as any. Can go off road with the best of them. I once took it through a mud puddle twice as deep as the vehicle. Immediately after this i drag raced a mustang and beat it with ease. I was drinking in California one night and rolled off of a cliff (luckily i survived) not only was the Amigo alive as well but he drove off scratch free. One day i took the Amigo a little to far to the edge and the engine blew, the next day i took it into the shop and the mechanic said nothing was wrong, and that it had miraculously repaired itself. Just the other day i passed a big milestone, i just hit the 500,000 mile mark and she is kickin like the first day i took him off the lot. I have recently come into a lot of money and have purchased an Amigo for each of my relatives, and all of them said it is the best car they have ever driven.

ISUZU ENGINE

Soft top leaks just because it is getting old :)

My Amigo just turned 222k miles and it is still going and going strong. Have owned it for the last 9+ years and love every moment driving it. Over the years, routine maintenance were done like clutch, timing belt, etc and the most recent ... the fuel pump replacement. The ONLY defective thing on the vehicle is the faulty ABS sensor. The engine does not burn oil or coolant, I usually do not have to add a single drop of oil between oil changes. The ONLY engine-related repair is the replacement of the valve cover gasket and the transmission is also still original.

Plan to keep it for more years to come, probably trade it in for a real Isuzu when it is available. Just love it! GO FARTHER ISUZU!!!!!

Power, quickness, agility (for this type of auto), unstoppable in any weather, soft top, fold-down and flip forward rear seats to accommodate an impressive amount of cargo, great in the summer due to sunroof and softtop, great in the winter due to 4WD and reliability. I've towed tons of people out of snow banks and medians in the past. Impressive towing capacity for size of car (accepts class III hitch and rated at 3600 lbs, but can probably tow more). Does everything but isn't bulky or nearly as gas guzzling. Rugged looks, can look more rugged with a tire and wheel upgrade; remove decals.

Gas mileage is 20 MPG at best, often more like 18 MPG. Ride can be bouncy on some potholes and railroad tracks (like a Jeep, but not as much). I replaced the shocks with a set that were several notches better in quality than stock and this helped a lot, for $150 (no labor included).

This 1998 Amigo V6 4WD is my second. I had a 1994 and though I thought the concept was great, I thought it needed a V6, cruise, refinement, better road manners, etc., power w/l, none of which were available on 1st gen Amigos. It was a piece of crap. What a difference a redesign makes. The 2nd gen Amigos are the same concept, but with all these features plus refinement. I bought mine used with 93k miles for a very good price. The only problems I've had was replacing the clutch master and slave cylinders, but the previous owner performed some significant maintenance on it. Overall, it runs and rides great and has impressive power for a car of this type. It's great because while it has all the same features of the full-sized V6 Rodeo, it is smaller and weighs 700 lbs less with all the power (205 HP)and features the sporty 2 door soft top look. I take the top off all the time in the summer. It takes about 2 minutes once you're used to it, but it takes longer to put the windows back. I bought it totally loaded. I removed all stereo-related components and put in a small sub (nothing obnoxious), Polk component speakers that happen to match the gray interior, a Sony deck and a couple of amplifiers. I also up-sized the tires and bought new mag wheels. I had to trim a little of the rear-bottom portion of the front fenders to accommodate them. I sold the factory alloys and that completely covered the cost of my wheels and now it looks much more masculine, particularly after removing all the "Amigo" decals. Now I have a nice Jeep Wrangler alternative (better road manners, bigger, quieter, cheaper) that looks tough. I like it a lot. And, it's unique. Not too many people have these things. My little truck is totally loaded with everything I could possibly want. All it needs is a towing kit, but I'll wait to get one when I need to tow a trailer.

Disappointing gas milage.

This is a wonderful little SUV! Especially for the money! Sure the gas milage sucks but it makes up for it with a problem free ride. I am ready to take it on its third trip to CA and AZ. It is reliable, safe, drives right, parks on a dime and was economical to purchase with only 40 K miles. I get lots of positive comments on it. I love it, love it, love it!

I have nothing but things to say about this vehicle. I purchased my Isuzu Amigo brand new at about $16,000 a have driven it for close to 150,000 miles in the past 8 years out of which I drove close to 120,000 in the first 5 years (I went from Florida to Canada in a few ocacions).

The only repairs that I have had to do on my Amigo (besides recalls done for free) was the alternator that died at around 80,000 miles and the clutch at around 120,000 miles; I am still driving on the original brakes at 150k miles! Sure, the check engine light has been on for quite some time, but it does not affect the vehicle performance in any way (I think it is a bad O2 sensor which I have but have not replaced yet), and the tires last about 70k miles consistenly so I have had to replace them only twice in the live of the SUV.

My SUV have been in extreme temperatures ranging from -32 F to 110 F without any problems, and it has been driven in the snow, sand, mud, water, and even in the ocean (yes I drove it inside the ocean at a rocky beach), and that is only a 4-cylinder 2-wheel-drive SUV.

Too bad they do not make this vehicle any more because I would definitely buy another one as a replacement.

Good V6. Very nimble. Nice styling. So far very reliable (knock on wood).

Poor gas mielage. Stock CD player not powerful enough for me.....I like it loud. Soft top difficult to take off. Soft top noisy. 4x4 button shouldn't be next to cruise control & fog lights buttons.

I bought this vehicle brand new with only 9 miles on it. I currently have 58,000 miles on it and have had no problems in the past 5 years. I got it with the soft but have only taken it off once. Overall I love this vehicle.

I purchased my amigo w/just 11 miles on the clock. I had done some research beforehand and decided against the v6 due to the problems found by other owners. I was driving about 70 miles a day to work, so the 130 horse four cylinder w/the five speed seemed like the way to go. First thing was i loved the sun roofs. great in the spring and fall! So far so good! In the last 5 years ive only had one real problem. The alternator went out at about 70k and it was very hard to find a replacement. I finaly found a shop that does rebuilding of alternators and gives a lifetime warranty also. The only other thing was a timingbelt recall that the dealer took care of, and a bad o2 sensor that went bad at about 50k. also fixed under warranty. I here alot of complaints about the factory installed bridgestone dueller684 tires. Low mileage, bad wear, etc. Im at 76,000 miles and the tires are just in the last 6 months starting to look worn. I think i will be able to go 80k before replacing. Ive already decided on michelin ltx-m/s for the new tires. I had this type tire on a z71 blazer back in 1997 and they seemed to last forever. The tires had 87k on them and still had over half the tread left. Other than what i mentioned, no other problems. Good mileage for this size suv 20/21 in town and 23 highway. Also i was surprised by how well my amigo pulled my boat. 19 foot larsen w/2 axle trailer, boat and trailer together = 5200 lbs. The amigo pulled very well and can do 65/70 on freeway w/boat. I was told this is due to the low gear ratio in the rear axle, 4.70s according to the owners manual. Overall a great suv for the price. I did change the shocks after 6 months (monroe magnums) and the ride improved quite a bit. Also no problem w/antilock brakes or brakes wearing out. Truck still drives same as when it was new.

Very Unsafe

I had a '98 amigo 2wd w/ soft top. I was a teenager and the little thing was great...until i had a minor accident one day. After owning it for several years, i was driving to work one day in light rain conditions. I had stopped at a light to turn and when i started to accelerate, i began to lose control of the vehicle. I began to fishtail, jumped a curb and hit a tree. The amigo spun through several lanes and finally stopped on the other side of the road. The only obvious damage was one front end corner was dented. As i was waiting for police to come, the front end started to smoke and a small fire started. I had no means of putting it out and the fire got larger and larger until finally the entire vehicle was on fire. It was like something out of a movie. The amigo was totally destroyed and thank goodness it was a total write off and i was able to buy a much better vehicle. I will never own another isuzu and would never reccomend one to anyone i care about. If you own one, be careful. It took nothing for that thing to lose control and even less for it to totally burn up!

I've always thought the Rodeo Sport (Amigo) was a very looking SUV. After my initial purchase at the dealership, my brand new Rodeo Sport and I began a relationship. I loved the sportiness of the small SUV, it's mobility and features. After owning it for about 9 months, the check engine light came on and was taken to another dealer. They had to replace some wiring inside the engine at no cost to me. The CD changer had to be replaced because it broke, the driver sunvisor broke and had to be replaced. Finally the floods gates have opened...the gas was/is killing me, the thermostat setting light does not work, the driver window is misaligned and has to be held to roll up, the Rod #1 broke and had to be fixed. Gratefully, I obtained all the invoices after a week of the bus and a weekend rental car (at my expense). Overall, the SUV is fun, I was hoping to pay it off, however with the new (or rebuilt engine) I am not sure about it's integrity. Currently, I have 39100 miles on my 02 Rodeo Sport and I've stressed out more over this than my own job.
