Strength:
8 passenger seating, very smooth ride.
Weakness:
wiper/shift position, transmission issue. I have had the pilot 3 months now, I've been somewhat disappointed so far. With 2050 mi. the driver window control has been replaced and I've got a vibration through what seems to be the trans. On cold starts the trans has this drag feel to it from 48 to 55 mph but when it warms up it goes away. Had the tires rebalanced to be sure but still there. I still think the pilot is very nice but do have questions. I also notice the recall about the transmission so not sure if this is related. But the ride is very good, smooth and just enough power. Very easy for wife to drive. Similar Products Used: 95 Tahoe, 00 Pathfinder, |

EX-L
Strength:
Honda name, handling is quietly impressive for such a large vehicle, safety features are as good as it gets, interior looks better than many $40,000+ SUVs.
Weakness:
This is strictly an in-town SUV. It isn't meant for towing. Anything. Except kids (seating for 8) and groceries. Great generalist. The Pilot is good at just about anything the average driver would need it for, and accomplishes this while being spectacular at nothing. The exterior is substantial yet bland, the interior is competently classy, the performance is above-average in a down-key sort of way. It feels big behind the wheel, yet can navigate parking lots with ease. Big and safe enough for soccer-moms, and masculine enough for NASCAR dads, Honda has made a near-perfect mass-market SUV for the American market. Pilot EX-L
Strength:
Smooth handling, generous features in the EX-L trim, respectable gas mileage, well designed interior, huge cargo room, Honda reputation for quality, durability, and resale value.
Weakness:
Exterior styling devoid of character (although I do love the rear), is this the first Honda to get less than 20 mpg in the city? All-in-all, the best value on the market today. Great SUV. I moved from a 1997 Volvo 850R wagon to this. The Honda may not be as fast and furious as the Volvo R, but it is an altogether more enjoyable driving experience. I never wanted or cared for an SUV until and saw and drove this. Very smooth ride for an SUV. Corners well for a vehicle this tall. Strong acceleration and comfortable amenities, five-star crash test rating, and Honda's reputation for quality make this an excellent choice. This really is money well spent. Do yourself a favor and use this as your benchmark when shopping for the new family truckster. Don't buy anything until you at least drive this. For the spammers who post the negative reviews, I pity you for selling out to whomever it is that is paying you to tarnish the image of a quality-driven company like Honda. If you aren't at least geting paid, then you are just dumb. Those truly interested in this car should skip those duplicated reviews. Edmunds.com will also provide you with additional owner reviews, from al points of view. This is a 5-star vehicle. Rides and drives great, roomy, tows up to 4,500 pounds, very safe in a crash.
Weakness:
None I read some of the reviews here and to the knucklehead who doesn't own a Pilot but keeps running them down. I say Check Car and Driver, road and track or any other reputable agency that has done comparisons and you will find that the Pilot rules. I bought one and I love it. Those of you who are buying an SUV will be wise to check out the Pilot. You will not be sorry. Similar Products Used: Honda CRV Chevy Van Olds |

Weakness:
Can't rest head on front headrests. Tight rear seats. Love the Pilot. Very roomy in front and 2nd row seats. 3rd row for kids or adults under 5'5". Great value compared to Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander. Has more room than either one too. Great interior layout and features. Exellent ride and handling. Don't let the dealer make you pay full sticker! |

Cold Starts I live in So Cal and park my Pilot in the driveway. If it's a cold night it won't always start the next morning. The engine will crank but won't turn over on the first try. It will start on the second attempt. Honda service states that this is normal for a lot of new cars today...yeah right! He gave me various reasons why he thinks this is happening, though I'm pretty sure he doesn't really know. He stated that all the Pilots on his lot were tested and all had delayed starts. This is not "normal" behavior for a car with 2000 miles on it. This is my third Honda...and if Honda doesn't make this right, it will be my last. |

Poor drivetrain and chassis, not exactly an attractive body and a downright cheap looking (and feeling) interior. I just test drove one of these based on reviews here among other things. What a peice of crap! The engine is rough, the trans is clunky and the chassis integrity is questionable. I'm on my way back to the VW dealer for a Toureg! Honda
Strength:
Ride, power, economy, versatility with a wide cargo area that converts to provide seating for 8, visibility from the drivers seat. The dealer sold me the car for list price while Pilots were selling for a $5k premium when I bought mine. I could have bought a different SUV at a significant discount but this will be a long term car and I wanted Honda reliability and was willing to pay list to get it. This car is excellent value for the dollar.
Weakness:
I'd like a more aggressive tread pattern on the M&S tires, but I'll shop for that when I replace the factory Goodyears within probably the next 10K miles. The manual passenger seat is an annoyance when the driver has more options on the power drivers seat. Excellent Vehicle! Have driven it 37K miles in 15 months with 0 problems. I live in the California desert and frequently drive through rain and snow to northern Oregon and wanted a vehicle that could do fast So Cal freeways and icy mountain passes safely and comfortably. I find the ride comparable to the Mercedes E class sedan that I used a couple years ago, the ride height is great, the power impressive and the fuel economy very good for a 4400 lb vehicle. I routinely get 20 mpg around town and have seen 23 mpg doing 75mph freeway driving. The dealer service has been excellent though oil changes and tire rotations have been all I've needed.
