Strength:

Very strong engine
Good Acceleration
Alot of goodies for the money.
Good Stereo

Weakness:

Bouncy Ride on the freeway sometimes floaty
CD changer wont always give you the CD's back

IF I had this to do all over again, I would never buy a Passport. I bought it in August of 1999 before moving from NC to FL for college. The trip to FL brought forth a shot differential. I had to drive the truck back up to NC to have the dealer repair it only to find out that the rear axle had to be replaced and was on back order for 2 months...thank god i had a 98 Prelude Type SH too to drive. On top of that the dealer gave me a Integra LS to drive when i would come to NC to work sence i still worked for and airline there on the weekends. Honda customer service ended up paying for 2 months lease payments on the truck sense i was paying for something that wasnt able to be used. When i got my evaluation of the vehical...they have a question on what they can do to better the vehicle. My responce was make this truck a REAL Honda..hehe.

Price paid was 31,000 but only leased for 16,000

Strength:

exterior appeal, strong engine, good acceleration

Weakness:

cloth interion is begging for quality improvement. I've changed mine once for factory defects, replacement not an improvement. Poor space for speakers, uncomfortable seats on 8+hours trips.

25500. Too many new suv's coming in the next 12-18 months...I would not buy anything until the new models are out.

Strength:

good acceleration, smooth ride, handled really well off road, 4WD is very convienent, nice dash, hatch folds down well and provides plenty of cargo space, the six-disc in dash CD player is awsome

Weakness:

stereo isnt the greatest, but nothing a sub or two couldnt fix

I would recomend this vehicle to any one looking for a good looking but rugged SUV. The 30K price tag is well worth it.

Strength:

I really like the power and ability to pass people easily for an SUV. The seating is exremely good for me since I am quite tall. I looked at a Toyota 4runner and I like the truck, but I could not fit inside it comfortably. My head kept hitting the roof.

I use my Passport for offroading in the mountains and for ski trips to mammoth and it does really well in the snow and mud. The tires do alright but I will be upgrading them when they wear out for something more knobby.

The storage room was adequate enough to fit all my stuff for camping and also hauling large amounts of dirt to and from Home depot. (I am building a garden and I am using it to shuttle all my goods home). Even with 800 pounds of Sod in the back I still had enough power to pass poeple on the highway.

Weakness:

Turning Radius could be better.

I paid 22,250 For a 4x4 LX and I would reccomend it to anybody who is rough on thier vehicle. The cost of the vehicle for the quality you get cannot be beat in my opinion.

Strength:

Powerful engine
Good looks
Plenty of space

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage
Does not have 5 mph bumpers

I bought my Passport in Sept 1999 for $400 over invoice. I was thinking about buying an XTerra, but when I realized I could get a Passport for about the same price, it wasn't much of a contest. The XTerra has a weaker engine and not as much headroom. Also, at the time the Nissan dealers were really gouging people for XTerras. Also, I like the looks of the Passport better. It seems to have better proportions to it. The XTerra looks tall and skinny.

So far my experience with the Passport has been good. The engine has all the power I could want (although it is a bit thirsty, particularly if you have a lead foot). The Passport has never let me down, even when it was snowing like crazy and I wanted to go skiing. The dealer offers great service, particularly compared to the crappy Ford service I was used to with my old car.

My only complaint is that the Passport does not have 5 mph bumpers. I was involved in a low speed accident(under 5 mph) in December and the Passport received $4000 worth of damage. Fortunately, insurance covered everything and the truck looks like new again.

Strength:

I like the extra room and space inside the vehicle. I do alot of shopping at yard sales and I carry alot of stuff home even though my husband calls it junk. We also have 3 dalmations and they have enough room in the back as well. I have had it for 2 years and I have put 34 thousand miles on it and I have had no problems at all. we have a dirt driveway and it gets quite messy during the winter and it is the only vehicle that has not gotten stuck in the mud.

I also got the 100,00 mile warranty on it also.

Weakness:

I wish that it was a four wheel drive vehicle instead of only a two wheel drive.

I paid 21,000 for it when I bought it. I got a deal on it because it was one of those cars the dealer uses and it already had miles on it.

Model Reviewed: LX 4WD w/auto

Strength:

POWERFUL ACCELERATION. Smoooooooth engine. Silent interior at highway speeds. Roomier than the competition. Surgical steering precision.

Weakness:

Bouncy and bumpy but ride is comfy if driven "grandma style". Some noise on the bumps. Driver's seat has limited adjustability (can't find a comfortable position).

Paid 23 g's for a '99 LX 4WD w/auto. Best reasonable price in the SUV market (second to Isuzu Trooper). The fastest SUV for the buck. Very quick.

Hated the ride and replaced shocks with BILSTEIN. The difference was like night and day. No bouncing around, less harshness on potholes, and rock-steady on the highway. Also very flat on the curves, I had fun going head to head with BMW's on twisty roads.

I recommend it. The underbody spare tire is a better choice, better visibility and less damage on collisions.

Strength:

Good looking vehicle

Weakness:

Just about everthing else

Good Looks - good brakes
Weaknesses: Poor Quality - Stiff Ride - poor handling - bad engineering - Honda dealers hate to service it because it isn't a Honda.

It's in the shop for something different every other week.
Similar Products Used: Toyota 4Runner or Ford Explorer - does not even compare - vehicles I should have bought.
Review Summary: Let me start with the problems: Tons of rattles - including a 4 wheel drive shift lever that buzzes so loud you have to turn the radio up to drown it out. The dealer has tried to replace it - but says it is normal.
Also - electrical problems, transmission slips when cornering, (also never fixed by the dealer), cd changer has been replaced multiple times - stereo sound sucks. Broken plastic trim parts, etc. etc. I can go on and on but I won't bore you. In short - the quality is pitiful - especially for a supposed Honda product. The dealer is tired of hearing my complaints - I'm stuck with this vehicle for two more years on the lease.

I do like the looks of the vehicle - the engine is strong - but the transmission sucks. I have the auto 4 speed. It likes to shift into high gears at extremely low speeds - unless you have the "power switch on". Even then - in my opinion the transmission is rough and doesn't take advantage of a very good engine.

The brakes are very good - my tires however have a bad directional pull and I have to keep the tires in a certain position to prevent this.

Overall - you can find a better product elsewhere. Even my Honda dealer claims the product is a "DOG". They keep telling me that Honda will be coming out with their own vehicle which will be much better.

If you think it's a great product - contact me - you can take over my lease payments for the next two years!

Strength:

I first decided to buy a Toyota 4Runner when I decided that I wanted an sport utility vehicle because I needed a way to cart around my mountain bike. I quickly changed gears however when I found out I could get a 4x4 Honda Passport for 4 thousand dollars less than a 4x4 4runner with the same goodies. The air conditioning and power everything as standard was very impressive.

The looks of the Honda Passport are same as the Isuzu Rodeo and the Nissan Pathfinder, so I really did not care about the look of the vehicle although it has nice lines. The interior of the vehicle has ample room, (I am 6'3 tall) compared to the 4Runner. I have 2 inches of clearance above my head in the driver seat compared to 1/2 inch in the 4Runner. Everything inside is well within reach and easy to use while driving. I actually bought the vehicle in San Francisco and Drove it to San Diego where I live the day I bought it and I was able to drive straight through to San Diego without stopping since the vehicle was so comfortable.

The best feature of this vehicle has to be the impressive power from the 205 horsepower V6 engine. I can pass people on the freeway easily and also climb up very steep inclines as well. The handling on the road is a bit cushy, but it is still a nice ride. Off road, the vehicle rides like a dream, with its high clearance and great suspension I have no problem tooling along in the deserts of Southern California all day long.

Weakness:

There are some improvements that could be made such as the turning radius and the ability to automatically shift into 4 wheel when needed such as the Ford Explorer and others but I thought those were not as important as price, power and quality.

I think anyone who wants a 4 wheel drive that has all the bells and whistles of more expensive vehicles as well as the MOST Powerful engine in its class, should compare this vehicle to any other and you will see its a steal for the price. (24,800)
