I've owned my Element since August 2005.I'm not too happy with it.There is a terrible rattling from underneath that sounds like I'm dragging a plastic bowl. They checked it out and found nothing loose, but said that they fixed it.It still makes that noise.Very irritating. The tilt wheel could go up farther, lots of bad blind spots,BAD gas mileage, and even worse when using the air conditioning.Only seats 4 people, which has been a huge inconvenience on many occasions.Suicide doors very inconvenient, especially when raining. The front seat passenger has to open their door and get wet in order for back seat person to get in.Not a quiet interior when driving.Poor paint job.Interior seats pulling apart at seams.Owned a Chrysler Voyager before this...should've kept it.

Strength:

Roomy, smooth driving, quiet, smart interior design.

Weakness:

Cost of repair for minor damage is terrible.

At first glance it seemed to have everything we were looking for. Style, functionality, economical. The interior is great and very roomy. All was well until my wife had a 5 mph fender bender that caused over $5,000 worth of damage. The vehicle has no front structure what-so-ever. After a looked to be very minor fender bender our car had to be towed because the radiator had been crushed. I'm sure it's a great vehicle and in a high speed crash it may save your life but it's not worth the cost of repair over a minor accident.

Strength:

versatility, comfort, gas mileage, nice interior, stereo system.

Weakness:

Well it would be nice if the front Passenger did not have to open the door for the person in the back to get out but that's ok I will live with it because all of the great things about this ride far outweigh that.

I just love my new car. Being an active family this is the perfect car. My son loves all of the room he has in the back seat and all of our surfboards, skateboards, and camping gear fit in it perfectly. It is a very surfer friendly ride. I love not having a carpeted floor that you can't get sand out of. It is a versatile fun ride with a killer stereo system.

Strength:

Drivability & power, stereo system, space to carry my bike, bike stuff & Alpacka raft plus groceries (the blueberries went flying in the crash!).

Weakness:

Hard to see out of when the seats are pulled up.

I am living proof that the Honda Element survives a head-on collision GREAT. Yesterday I was heading home going 40 mph when a 74 Toyota Landcruiser came out of nowhere (going 60 mph in a 40 zone after running a stop light). He swerved into my lane to avoid rear-ending the car in front of him preparing to execute a left turn. The only injury I sustained was a burn to my right hand and arm (from the air bag) & a bruised sternum. Now I'm looking for a 2006 model to replace the 2003. I'm looking forward to having side air bags in the new car even though I didn't have or need side air bags in my partiular crash.

Strength:

The 5 speed stick shift is fabulous! :)

The extra headroom is a big plus.

The stereo system rocks!

The Skyroof is cool.

The rubber interior is great, it beats carpet fuzz anyday.

The rectangle shaped windows makes it seem like you're driving a Army Humvee :)

The stash compartment under the ceiling is very cool

The fully loaded 4WD version comes with some very nice and sharp looking aluminum rims and some fancy dancy all terrain Good Year tires.

The cargo nets on the back of the front seats are a neat addition.

Gas Mileage

Oil changes are only every 10,000 miles

The Atomic Blue is a great color

The rack and pinion steering is a HUGE PLUS!

Weakness:

glove compartment to small

no locking gas cap

People People if you don't have any kids then take out the back seats and put them in your garage. Then you will have your own Motel 6 and you won't have to worry about anybody leaving the lights on for ya! hehehe

Seriously though... I took out my back seats and they are now in storage. They weigh about 80 to 90 pounds each. Now I get better acceleration and better gas mileage.

The Element is a Blast to drive!

I will be driving Honda Elements for the rest of my life! :-)

Strength:

Easy to clean and find in a parking lot. Everyone asks about as they do not know what it is. The fold up rear seats are great. I have become addicted to the XM radio. It handles well in traffic and as it is breaking in the fuel economy is improving. All of the little areas for storage plus the coin box on the left side of the dash is convient.

Weakness:

Dog hair sticks to the seats like glue. the blind spot around the A pilar take some getting use to. I believe a better choice of tire could have been made by Honda.

I replaced a ML-320 with the Element. The little Element is more sure footed on Ice and Snow that the big buck ML. I purchassed this for a back and forth to work Hoopty but I was in for a pleasent surprise. The more I drive itthe happier I become. The easy to clean interior was a strong selling point. I had looked at the 2005 Models and test drove a few however I was prepaired to buy one then have the plastic parts painted to match the body colors. My sales person told me that the 2006 models would come completly painted as an option so I waited 4 months for mine which is the new Atomic Blue.

Strength:

Perfect hurricane evacuation vehicle, especially if all the motels are full; handling is much better than we thought it would be; ingenious design inside and out; high quality fit and finish. Lots of backseat legroom. The rubbermaid interior doesn't bother us at all......it's perfect. We love our color choice...silver and blue/gray. The Honda salespeople are not pushy at all and are very pleasant to work with. They said they sell one Element a day and it appeals to all age groups.

Weakness:

Barely average seat comfort; front seats don't go high enough. We had to spend approx. $3,000 more to have armrests! Of course that included the upgraded stereo too.

I have liked the Element ever since they came out in 2003 and didn't even look at anything else except on the internet. Charlotte Sun Honda in Port Charlotte, FL generously let me and my husband borrow a new one for almost 24 hours. It convinced us that this was the vehicle for us for going to the beach, or hauling the dog or birds somewhere or hauling anything for that matter including a couple of kayaks. We are too old to sleep in it by choice, but it has some usefullness if we would want to "nap" on a road trip. We really like the new for 2006 solid color available in the EX-P model and he loves the seven speaker stereo and satellite radio. I had a few reservations because I am a Realtor, but my 88 year old mother-in-law was able to get in and out of it without much problem and she liked it!

Strength:

I have nothing negative to say about the Element. Even though the 4WD aspect of the Element wasn't near as strong as the 4.3 liter powertarin in the Chevy. On the other hand we never needed to use it anyway as we no longer mud and rock climb and sand dunes aren't on our list either. So the Elements soft off road capabilites weren't an on going concern. Room, room and more room ! With the roof racks (I have never stored a bike inside a vehicle. Too messy and sucks up way too much space) I can mount both of our bikes upright on the roof along with a average size cargo basket for folding chairs and such. The stereo is da bomb so we don't need to upgrade to a after market audio system to quench our need for high end sound quality. The rear moon roof is a hoot. XM satellite radio fills the void when out in the boonies where normal radio signals are non existant. With the Element's better fuel economy we can now travel longer distances without the hassel of counting change for gas.

Weakness:

The stock tires are useless. Got the dealer to credit me the existing stock tires and had them install a set of B.F. Goodrich All Terrains. It looks great, gives a bit more ground clearance and these tires will easily last 50,000 miles and go just about anywhere.

Purchased this traveling bread box after much research and comparison to similairly priced vehicles. We are avid out door types with lots of gear and camping equipment and we have always used small to mid size 4WD vehicles. Our biggest problem has been useable space. Our prior vehicle, a Chevy ZR2 4WD Blazer was good on power, not so good on fuel economy, and had excellent off road capabilty. I actually liked the Chevy alot but we were acquiring more and more stuff to take a long on our frequent camping trips and this little 2 door SUV finally ran out of space to carry it all. The Element sloved that problem.

Strength:

Comfort, versatility, integration with digital audio (mp3/AUX jack), very good enthusiast community for support and/or customization, fuel efficiency, visibility

Weakness:

I don't like the placement of the cruise on/off switch, but wheel mounted controls make use painless. Cup holders are often identified as a weakness in this vehicle, but they're fine for my stature and driving position (perhaps Honda reformulates the arm rests in the future to address this?). It is possible to put the front door in the closed position (it won't latch without the rear being closed) then close the rear door against the outside of the front door, potentially causing damage. I would like to see a mechanism that keeps this from happening.

Fabulous vehicle. Incredibly versatile with room to spare. Fun to drive and you can even sleep in it. Very few design elements fail to meet expectations. Internal hidden storage could be improved, but is better than average at present. The element feels underpowered, but likely is not for the intended purpose.
