Strength:
Does well in the snow, when it works right.
Weakness:
Where to start....(see summary) Worst car ever! Had it in for warranty work 4 times. Rusts like crazy! Rusted wheels and rusted trunk! Ford will not fix rust unless there is a hole! Half of the dash went out, gas pedal sticks, broke a tone ring with less than 20k on it. Stalls and will not start sometimes. Water stains the seats. I have so many problems with this car I can't even list them all! |

very Noisy,,,the instrument panel needs a redesign...gas mileage not what was advertised. The dash panel...the readout for the radio, compass and temp gage can't be read in the day time...it is set too high in the dash....the computer center can't be seen unless one bends forward and takes his eyes off the road. Still looking for the strengths, I guess maybe the way it looks on the outside.
Weakness:
When I signed the papers to buy it. Within a two wks in was in the shop for spings coming out of the front seat, hitting you in the back. NICE. Then theres the vibration in the gas pedal thats a good one they tell me its the ABS brakes re-setting. Then the back window that has finally got fixed it has been leaking from day one. They replaced the seal. The seats are terrible I spilled a glass of water and WATER stained the seats. I have a problem sometimes when I put it in gear it jumps it could be drive or reverse. Nothing is wrong with the truck b/c it doesn't do it at the service dept. Why do people complain when us Americans buy foreign? Hello, why can't the Americans get it right. I will definitely buy foreign the next time. I was on the fence this time and I caved. :( Now I am paying. |

Strength:
excellent in show and slippery roads, good in driving, comfortable, powerful, rear glass opens independently.
Weakness:
small trunk, no full size spare tire Nice little truck, to my opinion it's a very good balance between truck and car. In driving it feels more responsive than than some compact cars. 4WD system works very good on wet, sleepery and show covered roads. Rear parking sensors work very well and saved Escapes's bumber a couple of times and neighbor kid's bike left behind truck on driveaway. For 3 years of ownership I had two issues with transmission fluid leak and oil leak (repaired under warranty). It developed some squeaks in trunk area probably because I used my Escape to haul a lot of heavy load. Similar Products Used: Dodge Nitro, Ford Explorer |

Strength:
Roomy back area. Good Heater and A/C.
Weakness:
Transmission was erratic when first purchased, thought I got a lemon. Then got the recall and it still is awful. Jerks when you shift. Gas pedal doesn't respond to foot pressure adequately. Car shakes at a stop. Pops into gear on occasion when putting in reverse. The transmission is a complete mess. I have driven a Mercury Mariner with the smaller engine and it did not act like this at all. Now I am stuck with a balance of over $20,000 and a car I feel unsafe in and I feel like I am on a carnival ride. Not a pleasure to drive. Very, very disappointed in this piece of junk. Do not purchase this vehicle. You will waste your money and have much frustration.Shame on Ford for even selling this! Mileage is pretty good for a vehicle of its size
Weakness:
Noisy, drives like a pickup My first Ford purchase in many years and boy, am I sorry. The engine noise from this vehicle (4 cyl.) is unbelievably loud, constant ticking sounds from engine compartment (which Ford tells me is "normal") and almost no insulation from outside noise. I would never recommend anyone purchase this vehicle. Similar Products Used: Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Honda Passport |

I love my escape
Weakness:
the only thing that bothers me is that I have had the driver rear & passenger rear door latches changed at least 3 times each since I bought it in Oct. of 2006. Has any one else had this problem and if so what did you do to correct it? My warranty is at the point where I will have to start paying for this!!! I welcome any Ideas or suggestions. Thank You |

None I owned a 2008 Escape Hybrid with out the Sync system. Traded that in for a 2010 Escape LTD FWD and it's great! Milage is not as good as the Hybrid but is OK (21-14 MPG). I'm very happy with this purchase Similar Products Used: 2008 Escape Hybrid, 2003 Escape Hybrid |

Strength:
Easy to drive; lights and visibility are great.
Weakness:
The car rolls backward when stopped on a hill. There is a lot of road noise and bumpy ride. The transmission has shifted rough from the very beginning. When we took it back to the dealer and told them about the transmission, we were told that it was normal for them to do that. When we pressed the issue, they said that a part was being made to stop it from doing that but we never saw the part. The light color of the upholstery is easy to stain and hard to clean. Now the cooler in the transmission is leaking with barely over 36,000 miles on the car. Also, now the radiator is leaking. We are both in our sixties and the car has not been driven hard. We usually travel at or below the speed limit. We have kept up all of our normal maintenance on the car. I feel that the warranty is not comparable to other manufacturers' warranties. The transmission cooler should be covered under the power train warranty but the local dealer, Woody Anderson Ford, told me it was not covered after 36,000 miles and that it would cost us over $600.00 to repair it. Now that the radiator is leaking, who knows how much that will add to the cost of repairs. I am extremely unhappy and would never buy another Ford product as a result of the terrible experience that I have had with this one. Due to the horrible experience we have had with our Ford Escape and the quality of the service that we have received, I could not in good conscience, recommend this car to anyone. I hope that Ford Motor Company will do something about the problems we are having but judging from past experience, I really don't expect anything from them. |
