Ford Bronco (1996 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Bronco is a sport utility vehicle that was produced from 1966 to 1996, with five distinct generations. The original Bronco was an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle), intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The redesign of the second generation Bronco in 1978 was based on a shortened full sized F-100 pickup. It had a removable top and forward folding rear bench seat, similar to the competing Blazer.

(1980 - 1986) The Ford Bronco received a major redesign for 1980, coinciding with the F-Series pick-up truck. The new Bronco was shorter, and had cosmetic changes along with powertrain, suspension and other odds and ends.

(1992 - 1996) The Ford Bronco, along with the F-Series truck, was updated for 1992. The new Bronco was redesigned with safety in mind, incorporating front crumple zones, rear shoulder seat belts, a third brakelight embedded in the removable top, and after 1994, driver-side airbags.

Strength:

bucu power,in your face attitude,Lincoln comfort with room x2, confident 4x4, more stable than my stock 2000 4x4 ranger and more fun to boot.

Weakness:

for those who have said gas, shame on u my v6 ranger did worse than this, 16mpg for a 15yr old v-8 full size truck...no complaints here, by the way just how many mid eighties vehs are still on the road?especially 4cyls and how nuch does it cost to fix them when not if they break....i thought so

My uncle had a 74 fs blazer growing up. he would take the top off and take us wheelin. I grew up a ford man,and naturally the bronco was my favorite. many years passed and it seemed when I found one for sale it was way out of my price range. I settled for a little 4x2 ranger but i was lacking the room and wheelin ability. So i traded for a 4x4 ranger x-cab. We had alot of fun with it but still not open air. I sufficed. This year my father in law gave me his 87 F150 bronco W/135000 on the clock it still runs better than my best friends 97 blazer which cost him 1200 in repairs this week.I have spent roughly 1400 in basic maintenance on this truck so far and its the best damned investment ive ever made. This money rebuilt the whole front end..EVERYTHING..the brakes..EVERYTHING.. all of the drivetrain fluids, the radiator, the timming chain, all hoses and belt, and alighnment, this was paying someone to do the work, if thats not a easy on your budget maintenance schedule go buy a blazer youll be sorry, this is a 302 powered bronco w/3in lift 33x12.5 alterrains black w/ beige int. and a massive brush guard this truck is no joke it does not screw around neck snappin torque, tons of power, gobs of interior room wind in the hair,( ever take your convertible off road? bronco owners can!)and its scarry how tight the turning radius on this thing is, find anything better i dare u. I will never sell this truck PERIOD! hands down the best all around veh ever made, soooo comfortable,so easy in every way,so much fun how did i ever live without it.

Strength:

Great motor This thing is HUGE inside You sit above almost everything else on the road Almost unstopable

Weakness:

Drinks gas (Gotta feed those 5.0's) Rusts quickly if not taken care of consistantly

I love my truck! This is the first car i got when i turned 16 and my parents had a 1986 XLT bronco and a F-350 before I got mine.I'm in the process of rebuilding it due to previous mistreatment, but I love it. The 302 gets up and goes, and the XLT package provides for great interior comfort. With bigger tires and an exhaust system, the Bronco is a real truck and Ford should have kept making these great machines.

Strength:

Exterior and interior fit and finish, rides very well for a big truck and its very comfortable on trips.

Weakness:

Apparrently not mechanically built as well as the old ones, but then again, I could have just gotten ahold of a bad one.

Love the Bronco's, however, I haven't had much luck with this one. Luckily I bought an extended warranty with this one and that has saved my butt! It only had 52,000 miles on it when I bought it in the summer of 2001. Since then it has had a hole in the radiator, cupped and worn front tires, rear main seal replaced, water pump replaced and most recently the 4WD will not engage. All of this between 52,250 miles and 72,750 miles!? The truck is beautiful and gets alot of loooks. The interior is top notch for a truck. I previously owned a 1984 Bronco XLT for 4 years and traded it on this newer one with 180,000 miles and it was the best truck I ever owned! This is why I purchased another one. I guess its true that the don't make them like they used to!

Strength:

Powerful, tight turning radius, corners well, very smooth ride, very comfortable interior. XLT package makes it seem more like a luxury car than a truck.

Weakness:

Same with every late 80's, early 90's ford truck: Fuel pump will fail at 60,000 and it's in the tank which is a pain to replace yourself. Fuel injected but still very pooor gas milage. Belt life is considerably short with AC models, will squeel in cold weather. Spark plaugs towards firewall are next to impossible to change without lifting the truck, acceleration is a little sluggish with the fuel injection regardless of the HP rating. Tabs that keep the door open will break off after about ten years and unless you're over 6' it's really hard to reach the center of the windshield when you wash it!

Second Bronco, fith full size Ford truck I've owned. Knew exactly what I wanted in an engine, accessories, towing capability and milage based on my previous vehicals. Has been an excellent truck even though I have put way more miles on it than I had originally expected. Very reliable, very quiet (even with the 351), nice handling rig. Never understood why Ford dicontinued this model.

This thing LOVES fuel. Did i mention this thing LOVES fuel

So far the truck has been great.I like the fact that you sit above most of the pack.I'm from Canada so its hard to find one with no rust. The one i bought was from Texas. No rust.XLT with 351W,pulls good.

Strength:

The ultimate tow anything, haul anything, top down, room to move, 4x4 thats reliable, surprisingly nimble (has a tighter turning radius than a Honda Civic), with a big comfortable ride. My 9 year old daughter can drive it and whants her when I'm done.

Weakness:

Things I had to fix:Fuel tank skid plate wore hole in tank, two clutches, EFI controller micro switch, all window motors, brakes every 40-50,000 miles, one Warn hub locker, one wheel hub (when the the locker broke), wheel bearings, U-joints (reduced vibrations), 33x12.50 tires-x2sets (large unbalanced tires cause big vibration), x-mission and x-sfer case seals, steering box seals, water pump, alternator-x2, every 4000 miles changed filters and oil, annually repacked wheel bearings (especially after mudding and river crossings), valve cover gaskets (to stop small oil leak), and currently finishing an engine over-haul. Gas mileage varies- at 120,000 miles with a fresh tune up using the good stuff, I got 18 in the city and 21 on the hwy. The worst I got was on the last trip a week before the engine retired, 10 city 14 hwy. For a truck! you be the judge.

My truck rocks! I bought her used in '95 with 80,000 miles on her. She has been a daily driver, cross country cruiser, 25' boat tow'er, 4-wheeler, beach buggie, mud dragster, and an anything-I-want-to-load-up hauler. She has been from coast to coast 4 times, 4-wheeled the Rockies, the Sierras, the Mojave, and all over the South. Took her to Germany and she ruled the AutoBahn for three years (not the fastest but definatly the biggest)The EFI 5.0 finally called it quits after 285,436 miles. Just going to rebuild and keep going. You couldnt pay me enough to give up my Little Blue Mule.
