Strength:

Comfortable, trouble-free, lots of power, solid as a rock on the highway or off road.

Weakness:

Fuel economy

An excellent vehicle all the way around, altho it gets mediocre reviews due to some lack of snob appeal. I drove it out of the showroom and drove it 48000 miles... not a single problem. Best car I've ever had for highway driving: solid, quiet, comfortable, and stable as a rock. Recently drove it 1150 mile non-stop and didn't even feel tired. Great in snow and ice; all wheel drive system makes Explorer system look like something off a tractor.

Strength:

Power as I got 4.7 V8 (Pilot had 3.5 V6), Looks good, Fits in garage (Pilot had blind spots), lots of lights, warranty, running boards std. (extra on Pilot), My wife liked it. A real Truck I could take Deer Hunting not some Truck Wantabe (When I get to use it from my wife). We like the 4.7 in leather. Lots of power and it pulls the boat well. If you don't need a real truck get the Pilot. I know the Pilot would'nt make it into our Hunt camp but not everyone needs a real 4WD. I got Side curtain airbags for the kids, AWD and 4 wheel Anti-lock brakes as options to complete my package.

Weakness:

Fine when traveling with 4. Good for soccer with 7 on short runs. Not enough space for 7 on long trips with luggage.

We are coming from a minivan. We wanted an SUV because of the winter driving conditions in Ottawa Canada, our kids were getting older and we were tired of the family minivan. We looked hard when looking at SUV's. We tried them all:Explorer,Expedition,Yukon,Pilot,CRV, RAV4,4Runner and Pathfinder,Suzuki, Kia. Pilot was close but Durango won out. More power and a good Soccer machine for our kids.

Strength:

Strong handling in winter. Great strength and endurance for tough drivers. Love the 3rd row seat. Great room when seats are down for storing and traveling with large /long objects. Hauls boats well with trailer tow package. Great features-well worth the price.

Weakness:

Small room in rear when all seats contain passengers..not much room for packages/ luggage

The Durango has been a wonerful vehicle for the whole five years we've had it. Since we've had such great performance, we just recently bought an '04 Durango and LOVE IT!

Strength:

Tough, great ride, and stable on open roads.

Weakness:

Poorest gas mileage of any SUV.

Vehicle overheated for now reason. Dealer replaced entire cooling system, TWICE. But my problem just started. It damage the Gov. Press Solenoid Tranducer. This caused a delay in shifting into 2nd into 3 when transmission is cold. I was told by one dealer that the overheating did indeed damage this part. But now I will be stuck with an expensive transmission repair job. Sorry, but I learm my lesson again with American cars. **BUY TOYOTA!

Details from factory/Gas Hog

I've had several challenges - First, the leather is flaking (replaced driver seatcover - and now again on rear seat). Second, the two odomitors are off from each other and neither one is acccurate (off by about 2% - industry standard is .5% acceptable). Third, I've had the alignment fixed twice in a year (14,000 miles). Fourth, the carpet is wearing on the fold down in the middle of the second seat. Fifth, the linkage in the front makes terrible popping/clicking sounds when slowing and turning. I also had to have the front windshield resealed and the lid to the center consol replaced. Three design flaws - One is the side mirrors which cause a lot of wind noise, the infinity speakers just inside the side mirrors makes the mirrors rattle and losen, and the cargo flap that covers the top of the 3rd row seat doesn't go down when the second seat is up. Dealer is also very poor. Had vehicle in 5 times - 4 times it wasn't ready when promised. I was promised a detailing from the sales person which was completed only after getting the sales manager involved. It took them three visits to get the sticky glue from the sticker off the window and two trips to have Lo-Jack installed. I was told they were a 5 star dealer when I bought my car but just found out they received that distinction only two months ago. I'm writing this because I am going down to pick up my vehicle. Promised in 6 hours and it was ready(?)in 26 hours. Won't fix the leather nor the odom.

Costs a TON in gas!!

Similar to another review, I also have problems with my driver side lock (right now it's stuck unlocked) and the trunk needing to be locked manually. When at the dealership to fix the problems I heard numerous complaints about durangos. I'm starting to think I made a mistake in purchasing this truck.

Strength:

Truck tough, but comfortable on long trips. Great winter vehicle. Good looks.

Weakness:

Back up lights could be brighter. Front console door should open side ways.

We bought it new in Jan. of 2000. Have never had a single problem with it. Only 2 factory recalls, one to reprogram the emission control computer, and one to replace the mounting bolts for the front axle. Both done within an hour each, and I waited for it to be done! Replaced the brakes and front rotors at 25,000 mi.(Typical for 4WD truck) Great gas mileage, 22mpg highway with the 4.7 V8, 16 to 17mpg around town. It had plenty of power (220 hp).Fantastic in the snow. We simply loved it for all around performance, economical to operate, comfort level, and great styling. We loved it so much, we just bought a 2004 Durango SLT with the 5.7 Hemi.

Looks great, drives great, is fast, is roomy, tuff like a truck and perfect for our family

Weakness:

doors close easily, brakes, gate lock also has to be lock manually, also don't think it's that great in the snow.

We love our 2000 Dodge Durango. We bought it used at 25,000 miles and immediately found that our brakes were horrible, got those fixed, now they are great. Now we have a problem with the driver side door lock, won't lock and makes a horrible loud squeeky noise. I don't like that the doors close very easily if the wind is blowing, think it could be dangerouse where children are concerned. Other than that, we haven't had any other problems. I'd owe another if they still looks the same. Don't like the 2004 model.
