The powerful engine and looks
Weakness:
Quite a gas guzzler, but the performance pays it off. This SUV is GREAT! It has POWER and GOOD LOOKS. Moves great too around the country. There are lots of hills the roads in PR are from fair to poor condition. The handling is quite "truckish" but with these roads no one notices. The double air conditioner is very confy. gas milage. I have reviewed the comments of others at this site and noticed a trend, the 1999 version of the Durango was Junk. I have two other Dodge trucks, 2 2001 Ram 1500's, and have had ne problems wit either one. That is why I decided to get the Durango. It looks good, it rides well, the gas milage is to be expected with the muscle history of Dodge. The transmission is a new style and sould avoid the problems of the '99. It's not bulky or oversized (Expedition, Excursion, Suburban), and gets me where I need to go with all the gear I cary. Not overly fancy, but functional, I love my only SUV. And believe me, we were strictly Chevy people until we bought our first Ram. Similar Products Used: Dodge Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado 1500 |

Strength:
Comfort, power, and in my opinion, the best looking SUV on the road.
Weakness:
Gas hog. But who cares. You can't have it all. The Durango is really a family SUV so this review should be interesting. I own a pressure cleaning company and I wanted a comfortable luxury work truck. I got the Durango 4X4, with the 5.9. I work out of it and tow a 5,000lb trailer all day. This SUV is a contractors dream office on the road. The class 4 receiver allows me to tow whatever I want. I love it. I had a couple of people state in disbelief "you work out of that nice Durango"? My response is "an attorney doesn't own that Durango". I paid cash for this SUV. I love it and I have faith in Dodge. Similar Products Used: Caravan, Dakota, Ram |

Nice size, handles well
Weakness:
see review When I first got the vehicle the rear stabilzer bar was not connected, rear bumper was mounted crooked, clear coat peeling off around windows. There is a computer problem with the 4.7 V8. The car continues to die when stopped and idling. After numerous trips to the dealer, Chrysler is buying the vehicle back at full price to avoid the vehicle being classified as a LEMON under MS state law. Only has 8700 miles. They acknoledge that there is no solution to the problem I have been experiancing. I feel sorry for the person who is probably going to buy this car off the lot as a demo. Shoppers beware! Dependability, safety, power, seating and cargo room, looks.
Weakness:
Costly to buy and run. We have only good things to say about our "D", except for the gas mileage which is as poor as you''d expect from a 5.9 liter, 245 hp V-8. We added practically every option available, which always means more things to break down, but after three years and 45,000+ miles everything still works like new and nothing has ever needed taking to the shop. The overhead computer console, the super sound system, the awesome 4-wheel drive, the front and rear A/C, the power driver''s seat, the self-adjusting rear-view mirror -- it all works as well as it did the day we drove it home. Add to all this dependability the great seating/cargo capacity, the overall feeling of strength and safety, and the truck''s lovable looks (it reminds us of a big frisky puppy) and what''s not to like? We realize this vehicle is not for everybody. But if you have the money and don''t mind the poor gas mileage, we highly recommend the Durango to anyone looking for a mid-size SUV. |

Strength:
- Fits seven/eight. thats what we were looking for. - wider body. less chance of overturning. big plus point. - rear AC. - Looks good. - Cheapest in the renge with third row seat. every bit helps.
Weakness:
- very low gas milage (13mpg) - engine make "tick" noise while acceleration. very enoying. - engine light comes if you press too hard on gas. Once engine starts running high you''d need to stop the car turn engine off and restart. Not to good if you are in hurry or in highway. it happend around five times in last 3 years. - driver side mirror came off ???? NYC roads are not that bad. I''ve been driving in NYC area for 12 years. - brake dust always keeps front tires dusty. We bought the car as it had more room, third seat, rear AC, wider body and looked good. Had good sound system. Enjoyed it very much. Served us well. Enjoyed the system console. Went for number of long trips. We drove so far 45,000 miles in three years. Not much complaint except for small engine problems. We will be returning it as its a leased car. My first SUV. Unless Dodge does something about their engine problem my next SUV wont be Durango. Similar Products Used: None |

Dodge Durango SLT 4 x 4
Strength:
Exterior look, power, acceleration, bigger back door than competition, interior room and it''s just a pleasure to drive.
Weakness:
Gas mileage is about 3 mpg worse than it''s smaller mid size competition. I bought the Durango mainly because of the exterior look. In my personal opinion it is the sharpest looking SUV out there. Got the 7 yr. / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty + purchased the 7 yr. / 75,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. The 4.7 liter powerplant has plenty of get up & go (when needed), despite the heavy weight of the vehicle. My father thought that it handled better than his 99 Jeep Grand Cheroke Laredo & that the Durango had a much smoother ride. He was also impressed by the power & acceleration compared to his Jeep (he has the V-6) along with the spacious interior. It rides very nice on smooth roads, but reminds you that it is a truck on rougher highways. I average 13.6 city and 18.6 on the highway. This comes as no surprise as the gas mileage numbers are the biggest numbers on the window sticker. The braking seems to be a little on the weak side, but then again you have to consider the weight of the vehicle. I''ve got disc brakes in the front and rear drums. It came with the optional Trailer Tow Group, which I will be testing when fishing officially starts next month. The Overhead Convenience Group (showing current gas consumption, average gas consumption, direction you are driving, outside temperature, miles you can drive until empty, etc.) was also in the vehicle. I think that it was worth the extra dollars. I like the idea that the service department at Dodge City is open until midnight during the week and that you can make appointments. With just 6,000 miles on the vehicle it may be too soon to make a judgement on the Durango, but at this point, I don''t think I could be happier with it. more power on air conditioning. this is my suv purchase, and i can''t be more satisfied with its performance and reliability. i''ve had my truck for 4+ years now and stuck to all of the manufacturer''s/dealer''s recommended service schedule so far. and so far all i had to replace was the battery and thats even because i left the lights on overnight. it still started the next day and so on, battery finally died after 2 months. |

Gas hog, eats brake pads It seems there are a lot of unhappy Durango owners here but remember, Dodge built and sold 100,000+ of these suckers every year since 1998 so the simple law of large numbers is going to tell you that some will turn out crappy. I bought mine with 94,000 miles on the odometer from a co-worker. He was very anal so the condition is excellent. I was aware of the weak seals in the transmission (he''d already fixed it) and the poor gas mileage (5.9 V8) but I have to admit that I''m amazed at how good this truck is - very solid and fast. QUALITY This truck has been PLAGUED with problems. The electronics have totally gone haywire and what''s worse is that the DODGE can''t fix it!! I have taken it into the shop over eight times with NO RESOLUTION. The dash lighs reset and the odometers and speedometers go blank. Then the truck stalls. The dealer has given me use of a loaner car for a WHOLE MONTH and everytime I go to pick up the vehicle at the 4 star dealer more problems crop up. I am persuing arbitration and lemon law. I hope no one else goes through this aggravation. Dodge gives american craftsmanship a bad name Similar Products Used: LANCRUISER |
