The power of the engine, It's a truck that rides and handles like a car. Gas mileage is good, It does very well off-road, roomy, comfortable,it has a full frame, brakes are great.
Weakness:
Ground clearance, limit on tire sizes that can be installed because of upper control arm on front. I have read many of the reviews, and must say I'm surprised at all of the problems. I hope and pray we continue with a trouble free ownership. We have 12,000 miles on ours with no problems at all. My wife and I spent all summer driving off-road with good results, lacks ground clearance in front mainly. We like the roomy interior, smooth ride, even off-road, power is great, and we get 20-25 MPG. We tow a 3500 lb. trailer and I was disappointed that the gas mileage dropped off to 13 MPG. Strength:
Appearance but appearances are definately deceiving.
Weakness:
1. Too many recalls, GM shouldn't have sent this vehicle on the road. 2. Rear gate handle breaks off, no point in having it replaced, the rubber just keeps breaking. 3. Poor wind noise, sounds like doors aren't sealed. 4. Stuts replaced. 5. Front end noise, no answer to problem. 6. Service engine light comes on and dealership says nothing showing wrong when hooked up to diagnostic machine. They just reset the sensor. 7. 4WD comes on and off at will. 8. Power train warranty extension, cause for concern. 9. Brake lights have to be changed continually and GM hasn't been able to fix the problem, have only put a bandaid on it. 10. A/C not powerful enough for a vehicle this size. 11. Motor blown GM won't assist us in having it replaced. When we purchased this product we were informed we would get 150,000+ miles on this engine, it has 60,000. It fell very short of our expectaions. Worst GM product we have ever purchased. We have been GM buyers for 14+ years now and have always been 110% satisfied, until now. We are very glad we found this web site and all the reviews. We are in the process of dealing with a blown engine on our 2002 Trailblazer. It has 60,000 miles and has been sitting in the shop for 3 weeks now waiting on GM to take care of the problem, even though it is out of warranty. The vehicle identification number on our Trailblazer falls within the VIN's that have the recall on the cylinder sleeve. GM will not acknowledge that the cylinder sleeve caused the problem with our engine and now expect us to pay $9,000 to have a new engine installed or rebuild our exhisting engine. After reading all the other reviews on this vehicle, and I did read all 134, it pretty obvious that GM needs to pull this vehicle off the road. I was experiencing the same start up problems but didn't think to report it to the dealership, the tail lights go out continually, the 8 recalls I have had it into the dealership for, this vehicle is too dangerous to be on the road. I will be following the advice of a previous reviewer and contact the National Highway Safety Commision. Since GM doesn't want to help us maybe they can. Similar Products Used: 1st time SUV buyers. I love just about everything about it.
Weakness:
I do wish the seats were more comfortable. I had a Astro Van before the Trailblazer and it had very comfortable seats. I purchased my Trailblazer new and I have owned it for about 37 or 38 months. I now have about 74,000 miles on it and I still love it like I did the day I bought it. I have had only minor problems - such as with the brake lights, but that has been fixed. I purchased one of the first Trailblazers and paid top dollar for it - even before there were any purchasing incentives (prior to 9/11). I have driven it like *ell for day one and I still drive it like *ell. LOL Needless to say, there have been several speeding tickets issued to my Trailblazer. If only everyone's Trailblazer was like mine, we'd all be happy! Similar Products Used: Never owned a SUV, but I have has two Chevrolet Astro Vans and lots of Chevrolet Camaros. |

Comfortable ride. Quiet cabin. Decent handling. Stylish, not old looking which works for this 23 year old professional. :-)
Weakness:
I really don't have anything bad to say.....yet..... This is only my second SUV, the first was a Jeep Liberty, which was JUNK!!!! Though after reading the other posts on here about the Trailblazer, I'm a little concerned. I currently have 2553 miles on my Trailablzer, and I'm loving it! It has an awesome ride, and it very quiet in the cabin. The factory stereo is pretty good, though I kicked it up a notch and added 2 12" speakers in a box and an amp. I feel very safe and comfortable driving my Trailblazer. The rear seats fold down which is great for my dogs. Gas mileage isn't great, but it's much better than I expected for a semi-big SUV. When I bought my Trailblazer, I was talked into extending my 3-year 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty by another 3 years. Hesitantly, I paid for it, but now I'm thinking it may come in handy. I guess my view is that every car is capable of having problems. (Ex. I had a 2001 Volvo S60....It's a great car, if you don't mind putting new brakes on it every 5,000 miles, and minor electrical problems nickel and diming you.) I also had a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am that I drove problem free until it had 155,000 miles. It was also a car that had many bad reviews.....but I had not one problem with it. But again, I only have less than 3000 miles on my Trailblazer so far. I'll update you all as I rack up the miles! Similar Products Used: 2001 Volvo S60 |

Bad gas mileage, problems galore! Worst vehicle I have every owned. Vehicle has 6,000 miles on it : problems noted : in low speeds vehicle will sometimes lurch forward , two seatbelts are malfunctioning, Driver Door handle is already pulling away from door, Gas Gauge is malfunctioning, Getting approximately 13 miles to the gallon, Trim along windows are discoloring, Drivers Door sometimes locks up vehicle shakes on idle with airconditioner on. Onstar phone is malfunctioning. Nightmare to say the least. Similar Products Used: 2002 Chevrolet Suburban Z71 worst mistake I made was trading this vehicle in, not one single problem with it, drove like a dream, better gas mileage than the Trailblazer. |

Great power from the inline 6. Very good ride. Cool styling.
Weakness:
More electrical problems than I can even remember. Just read the rest of the reviews. have to keep the tailights check because they are continually going out. Is in the shop right now because the air conditioning system is screwed up. First all these warning lights come on, the cruise control quits working and the a/c fan wont turn on-put in a new ignition switch and fixed all the problems but now the heating coil stays on so the air conditioner does nothing to cool the vehicle. They have reset the computer and everything and the problem remains. I might add that the steering feels like that of a greyhound bus but this is minor compared to all the other problems. Ready to sell one of the many pieces of crap made by chevy. AN ELECTRICAL NIGHTMARE. Bought it used from a private owner that lives less than ten miles from me with 33000 miles on the odo. Now I know why they sold it...I almost got one of those Honda Elements that everyone calls ugly and i should have. I would rather have people pointing at my car and laughing than having to take one to every mechanic in town every time i turn around. DO NOT BUY A TRAILBLAZER...i probably wont ever buy another chevy either. Similar Products Used: This is my first vehicle (i am 17). My parents have a 2003 ford expedition(2 minor problems) and a 2002 ford f250(no problems). We have also owned quite a few hondas(no problems. |

We really like the leg and head room of the Trailblazer. We also like the ride, it doesn't ride like a truck. The V8 power is great also.
Weakness:
Electrical and transmission problems seem to be a trait of this vehicle. We have had our vehicle serviced over 14 times since we bought it in April of 2003. We have had the main computer replaced as well as the anti-lock brake computer, clutch fan, taillight circuit boards, numerous sensors, gauge cluster, four-wheel drive shift selector, ignition switch, and the list goes on. We have been trying to negotiate a settlement with GM and have found them to be less than responsive. We are sending our MN Lemon Law letter tomorrow. We have been having transmission problems since November and it is still not fixed. The only good thing about this is that our salesperson told us that he was so confident that we would never have to use the powertrain warranty when we bought the vehicle that he wrote in our contract that if we did, he would take us out for a steak dinner. I guess we'll be cashing that in soon!! Our dealership has been great to deal with and they always give us something else to drive. The guy from GM told me that this can be viewed positively because we get to test drive a lot of different vehicles. I told him that I shouldn't have to buy a lemon to do this. Above mentioned issues I previously owned a 1998 Eddie Bauer Explorer. It was a nightmare w/bells and whistles so I thought I would try the low end model. * Gauges just stopped working one day. Had to take every fuse out of holder and reseat to get to work. * On Cold start, engine sounds like a jet engine taking off. * Rear defrost quit 3x already * Rear brake light assembly was replaced due to repeated bulbs dying * 2WD/AWD/4lo/4Hi just wont engage anymore. Lights will not come on at all. * Windshield wipers intermittenly decide to stop working completely. * Buttons on radio sticking (no-there was not pop spilled) Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer-Eddie Bauer Fully loaded |
