Strength:

looks good

Weakness:

transmission, brakes

I would not recommend this vehicle because you shouldn't have a transmission going out at 72,000 miles. I paid alot of money for this vehicle and I expected to get more out of it than I did. I called the dealer in which I purchased the vehicle to find out what exactly my extended warranty covered and well the transmission wasn't one of the items on the list. I called chevrolet and was told the factory warranty had went out the month before. Typical. I am very unsatifsied. I had a Dodge and there was a leak in one of the rear lights and a similar situation occurred as the warranty passing however Dodge was understandlable and realized that I was unhappy and covered the expense.

Model Reviewed: Blazer

Strength:

-Sound system is good
-Good looking vehicle(looks tough)

Weakness:

-The price of a Jeep Cherokee Laredo because of finance payments
-Weak acceleration (but hey, what was I suppose to expect from an SUV. How about the Bimmer though. Now that's one fast SUV)
-Cost a lot to repair
-NOT like a rock (more like a soft fluffy cake)
-Unreliable brakes right from the beginning
-Cramped back roll seats
-Compass and thermometer acts funny (it always resets)
-Weak headlights
-Short SUV for a SUV
-Messed up Michelin tires right from the beginning
-Smaller then the early 90's Blazer (interior that is)

False advertising. Like a rock my a**. Cost so much for this crappy SUV. The brakes are so terrible on this vehcle. The acceleration is a complete joke. The SUV barely nudges even when I step down on the accelerator. Cars usually pass me by and when they pass, I usually hear the roar of their vehicle's engine but no roar from the Blazer even when I'm struggling to get it to speed up.

Model Reviewed: Blazer LS 4DR

Strength:

Rugged yet refined good looks. Excellent powertrain- The 4.3L Vortec is a horse. Comfortable seating for the driver.

Weakness:

The brakes- poor quality and poor performance. The luxury suspension package has way too much body roll. The vehicle doesn't have any major mechanical faults, but has a lot of "little things" wrong with it.

The Blazer is "Like a Rock" in some respects. I bought the car brand new in 1995. One year later I was involved in a roll-over crash at 50 miles per hour. The Blazer was spectacular in the crash, I walked away from the five car pile up. The three roll bars across the roof probably saved my life. I know of people who have rolled Jeeps or Explorers, and did walk away from it. The most amazing thing was that when the truck was rolled back on its wheels by the tow truck, it started again. Foolishly, I drove it home that nite. The $10,000 dollars in damage was almost completely cosmetic. I have a good deal of respect for the vehicle because of that. That accident, coupled with my years of hard driving and off-roading, probably has led to some of the problems I have had with it. My 1995 Blazer currently has 83,000 miles on it. It has never failed to start, and has never broken down to a point where I could not drive it. Its problems in my opinion are GM quality control issues and design issues. It has a cheap plastic interior that loves to rattle. I have replaced the freeze plugs, the fuel injection pump, the EGR valve, the catalytic converter, and the third stop lite. The anti-lock brakes have been out of service for two years, but I don't miss them, especially for the $1,000 repair tag. The braking system is by far the weakest part of the vehicle. Front pads have worn out in as few as 3000 miles and the rear drums have had slack adjustor problems. Having this truck forced me to learn how to service brakes myself. Additionally, I would not recommend the luxury suspension package. I bought it because it was the only Blazer on the lot. It rolls in the turns like an old Lincoln on bad shocks. However, it only gives an illusion of instability- despite the body roll, it gets around the turns well. The Blazer also likes its tires, averaging about 25,000 miles per set.
I would not recommend this vehicle for people who do not have a clue about auto repair. Many of the little problems I have been able to diagnose myself. Otherwise, I fear that I would be easy prey for the Chevy Service Department. Used Blazers are good buys for younger men who are not afraid to work on it themself. The used Blazer is a marginally good value used in my opinion. The low resale value compensates for the little problems one may encounter. However, one might consider the 1996 model before the 1995. I speculate GM worked some of the bugs out in the first year of production. Additionally, the 1996 model has an updated engine and transmission that should hold up better in the long run.

Model Reviewed: Chev Blazer 2 Door 4 X 4

Strength:

I've got a 2 door 4X4 with the off-road options (stiffer suspension, skid plates, rear mounted spare) and love it. I've put 50,000 km on it in less than a year and a half, over all kinds of terrain. It's equally at home on a goat path or the highway. I'm 6' 3" tall, and there is plenty of room in the front, although I wouldn't want to ride in the back for long. It has proven itself sure-footed on the snow and ice. And I have had numerous comments on the unique good looks of my meadow green colored model.

Weakness:

The Vortec 4300 is a thirsty engine, 19 to 20 mpg on the highway, but the 195 hp it puts out comes in handy. The rear mounted spare does reduce visibility out the rear window.

This is the perfect vehicle for someone who enjoys taking the road less travelled or who lives in a winter climate. Although it is extremely comfortable to drive on dry pavement as well, it does like fuel.

The off-road options are nice if you want to get back to nature, and don't effect the highway ride a great deal.

If you're looking to buy one, you're going to get what should be expected from an SUV - a vehicle that will get you were you want to go, when you want to go, at a reasonable pace. The Blazer shatters the competition in its class.

Model Reviewed: 2-door Chevy Blazer

Strength:

-Good acceleration
-Great exterior look
-Excellent stock sound system
-4 wheel drive comes in very handy where I live
-Great interior design

Weakness:

The excessive plastic interior rattles like crazy. I've had both interior side panels in the back replaced because of this. Rear hatch rattles too.
It starts to shake at high speeds. (I have 30,000 miles on my tires)

This thing overall is great. Handles real well both on and off the road. I was originally going to put a new sound system in which ever vehicle I bought, but this one was plenty good. The exterior look of my Blazer is great. The stock wheels are great looking. Even though I chose Pewter for a color, there are many other great colors to choose from. I am 16 years old, and recommend this to people of all ages.

Model Reviewed: S10 Tahoe 4dr

Strength:

Size (I'm 6'6" and fit pretty well in it). Better headroom than many of the Japanese SUVs.

Weakness:

Everything--paint; rust; gas milage and repairs take all my money (two brake recalls, EGR valve, fuel pump, 4wd motor, power window motor, suspension, brakes, transmission, plus all the minor stuff I've repaired).

I bought it used with 38k, but don't make the same mistake I did. The major reason is Blazers are unsafe and unreliable. Of course I was sold by the SUV aspect because I enjoy outdoors activites, but the gas milage is horrible. I like the 4wd, but realistically only use it a handful of times each year. It is less safe than almost all cars, all of my money goes into maintaining this beast. Until SUVs get better gas milage, more environmentally efficient and safer, I am going to an AWD car or wagon. I keep thinking that I am over the repair hump, but it will run okay for three monthes, then go in for another major repair. I figured I would drive this car for 5-7 yrs, but can't believe I've kept it for four years. (and it's not even paid off yet!) I should have sold it two months ago, before I had my latest $1,300 repair bill. It seems like every repair is $500+. I have put more than $5,500 in repairs in four years, (I recently got in accident because of latest ABS recall.) Customer service experience was horrible--the guy was a jerk when I tried to get Chevy to cover the $220 bumper repair because of the brake recall. I'm just glad I wasn't going more than 10 mph. I hate it.

Strength:

I LOVE this automobile because it holds up to everything I put it through. We have a camper, and it pulls it like it is carrying nothing at all. The interior is excellent and very spacious! The qualities are amazing. This is a far better vehicle than the Ford Explorer. This has class! It looks good anywhere you take it.

Weakness:

The only bad thing I can say about it, is that is it pretty bad with gas milage, expecially with a camper, or when its hauling. I also dont like how you can only go up to 100mph before the engine shuts off and restarts.

I would recommond this vehicle because it is the greatest auto I have ever owned. Every morning, I dont have to worry about getting the car started, it is very dependable and is really fun to drive!

It may not be as spacious as the Ford Explorer, but it has far more class and has outstanding power compared to the Explorer.

Strength:

I really like my Blazer, it is very reliable.

Weakness:

We have only replaced the normal wear & tear items that are expected on ALL vehicles. The brakes squeak but I attribute that to buying after market brake pads.

I highly recommend the blazer. It is the best car I have ever owned & I have had Fords, Pontiac, Mazda, Dodge & Mitsubishi.

We had a Dodge before this, it was a lemon from the day we drove it off the showroom floor! in 3 years we had 7 head gaskets, 3 water pumps, ECR valves, you name it. It was bad, when everyone on the service floor knows your name including the car rental agents.
