Quality Service Price Poor quality and poor service. It has been back for warranty work several times. Four items had repeat visits and one of those had to go back 5 times before it was fixed correctly. It has been back so many times I have considered filing with the Lemon Law. Powerful engine. Stop on a dime brakes. 5 speed automatic/manu-matic transmission.
Weakness:
The price is the only weakness. Perhaps the most fun vehicle I have ever driven. The zero to zixty acceleration is amazing. 282-hp V8 is perfect. Will eat any SUV/SAV off the line and to the top end with the exception of the ML55AMG (more expensive) and the GMC Typhoon (not a luxury SUV). For the new model year, BMW bumped the displacement .2 liters, for the 4.6is. Nothing else even comes close. Off-roading would be tough because of it''s low clearance, but the suspension is far tighter than any other SUV around. The transmission allows for a clutchless manual, much like the Tiptronic shifting in Porsches. This transmission matches revs amazingly. Never before have I felt a smoother shifting vehicle. The ride is a little rougher, but you are buying a performance vehicle, not a living room on wheels. Dual exhaust sounds throaty. Stereo system has rich highs and deep bass. Controls are self-explanitory. Nice top end acceleration. BMW''s speedometers have been off by up to 5mph, but I hit the governer which is at 130mph supposedly. Handles like a car. Center of gravity feels low, like a car. I can''t wait until the M Group opens their eyes and throws the 394-hp M5 engine under the hood. BMW would truly create a monster. none This is an awesome car. It has everything available. This car is very tight. No shakes or vibrations (not even over railroad tracks). Excelent ride. Simply the best. Local dealer was a pain so we bought it somewhere else. At the dealership we bought the car from they were extremely nice. Simply the best you can buy. The headlights automatically level and the windshield wipers are even automatic. Similar Products Used: Toyota Landcruiser (awesome SUV but not as sporty as X5) |

very pricey complicated electrical components that if needs replacement would be very costly Almost bought an MDX deposit down and everything....just drove the Bimmer for the hell of it and was sold. Also drove the 3 series and 5 series....man awsome cars! Always wanted a sports car but need the room of a suv, 4x4 and hate to admit it th looks and feeling of owning the road. all the SUV''s in the 50k price range fit that criteria but the X5 just shines. Amazing handling dynamics, power, fit and finish and teutonic feel. I have read some reviews on how poor the cargo carrying capacity is but I fit 4 people, a dog, all their luggage, plus my golf clubs and cart! even the kennel! Yo just need to know how to pack stuff and its possible. Besides that the the handing alone and performance is worth the sacrifice in cargo carrying capacity. 50:50 weight distribution is also a plus. only problem I had was the DME, which needed to be replaced. and the fan recalls, customer service is first rate at Budd''s in Oakville Ontario, as well as Grand Touring Cars in London. Overall the ultimate driving machine. BMW knows how to build sports cars, in the X5 all they did was build a sports car that looks like an SUV. BMW SUV? People who know cars, know this is a stupid concept. Built in US, not in Germany Poor Reliablity, not really a TRUE BMW. Storage and towing is just plain awful. No off road capability. Way too expensive .... NAV stinks compared to Lexus and Acura Wanna''be yuppie car, true yuppies know that SUV are passe! The price points on the X5 and 5-Series are similar. Why? Because 5-Series are real German built cars built in Germany. X5''s are built in Indiana. You see!! Nothing is for free. If you want a good SUV, don''t buy an X5. If you want to buy BMW, buy one of their cars, they''re fantastic, amazing cars (I have always owned BMW’s). If you want an SUV that is very reliable and some minor Towing, you need to buy into Lexus or Toyota. If you want massive towing power, buy GMC. If you want a Mini-Van that looks like an SUV, anyone will do, just look for the best price. The X5 is a good car, but you''re much better off just buying a 5-Series sedan. It handles fine in the snow & rain. It has all kinds of traction control technology. I live in Chicago and go through Chicago winters with ease in my 5-series. There are some other SUV coming new on the market, like the Porsche, Volvo, the MDX, and god knows what else. Forget it. Toyota, GMC, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Jeep, have been make good trucks and SUVs for years now. Chevy (Blazer, Jimmy) & Ford (Ford Explorer) etc, have also made SUV’s for some time, but they are terrible cars and built to brake. The MDX is a big hit with a lot of newbees to the car and SUV market. These cars have, many problems are no more RUGGED than minivans. Don’t get fooled!!! Similar Products Used: All of them. If you are buying a SUV for these reasons: Riding Up high All wheel Drive Storage Capacity Don''t buy an X5. There are so many other products out there. If you really want a |

QUALITY! This vehicle has spent a lot of time in the shop. Part of the reason for that is that for a couple of things it has had to go in more than once. The primary problems seem to be electrically related. This is my first BMW and it may well be my last. Similar Products Used: Navigator |
