Pontiac Firebird
Strength:
POWER (AND ONLY THE BASE V-6!!!), CORNERING, LOOKS, GAS MILEAGE, no drips from t-tops
Weakness:
visibility, lousy base factory sound, bought used at 47,000 miles and at 15 miles after leaving the lot, the engine started stumbling, Service Engine light came on. Dealer told me to drive it back to the lot ( I had it towed back on a flatbed hauler). Turns out that fuel filter and injectors got fouled from bad gas and a plug wire was cracked and shorting (plug wires are a recall item for the 1998''s). Somehow the (Pontiac) dealer missed these problems during theirmeticulous 64-point inspection of this "Certified Pre-owned Pontiac". Since then, it runs great. Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the BEST car I have EVER owned in over 20 years. "just" has the base V-6, but at 200 hp it hauls butt, gets 24 mpg in 75/25 highway/city driving, and corners like it''s glued to the road. It''s black and with the great body and fender curves it''s actually been mistaken for a Vette a few times. Incredible value for the money if you understand that it''s supposed to be a stiff-riding, low slung performance car. Similar Products Used: Ford Mustang, Buick Grand National |

Trans AM
Strength:
Looks nice, good acceleration. Love the stereo controls on the steering wheel, which light up when the lights are on. I really like the interior. The cup holder is conveniently located, at least for the driver. I thought the ride was quiet, for a convertible.
Weakness:
Roof leaks (gushes) badly in car wash, though doesn''t seem to leak in the rain, seats are hard, electric motors in windows are too weak, windshield frame is too close to driver''s head (I bumped my head on it in a wreck, and I did have my seat belt on). Transmission buldges up through floor on passenger side. Rear view isn''t wide enough, due to small back window. Also, spare tire is nearly impossible to remove from trunk. Windshield was a bit wavy, but I notice this on all cars during the last few years. What''s up with that anyway? At 28,000 miles, I was told I needed new rotors, although this came from the same shop that said my Chrysler needed a new master cylinder, which it didn''t, so who knows. Overall, a nice car. The number of weaknesses I list exceeds the number of strengths, but for the most part, they are minor. Similar Products Used: Have rented Mustang GT''s. Liked the Trans AM better. |

Strength:
The looks, speed, seats are comforable, 6 speed manual is fun to drive, t-tops (don''t have to worry about rips, mildew or fogged back windows like convertables), gas milage is not too bad for a v-8, power, and the overall feeling you get when you walk out to get in the car.
Weakness:
The hump on the passenger side floorboard is very awkward. The stupid gas saving skip shift can be annoying at times. And of course insurance, but hey it''s a sports car. Great car. Love the looks and the power. There are not many sports cars on the market now days (soon to be less with f-bodies gone). There are no sports cars besides either mustangs or used sports cars in this price range. I''ve only had the car 6 months and has less than 5k miles on it, but we haven''t had any problems with it. I know many people who have owned GM products and they have all been very reliable. Can''t see the front end at all I think this is the best looking sports car I have owned. I had a 70 firebird and it was ok, but it didn''t have the looks of this one or the power. Mine is 335hp and believe me it goes. So far no problems, but only got a 2000 miles before I put it up for the winter. It is navy blue metallic with ebony interior. Trailer Trash will be in awe of your piece of sh it car.
Weakness:
Everything. Window jam came out, plastic seat broke, 2 transmissions, sh it ty handling, and bad gas mileage. This has got to be the biggest piece of sh it alive. I would rather drive a daewoo. Pontiac gives Kia a bad wrap. If you like german tank handling, sh it ty transmissions, pleather seats, plastic interior, and nascar t-shirts, then this a good white trash car for you. Similar Products Used: Geo Metro, Kia Sportage, Daewoo, and a bike which are all more reliable than this piece of sh it. |

Firebird Convertible
Strength:
Fast, loud and black on black turns heads
Weakness:
You can hear wind through the windows between the window and top but it doesnt change the temperature in the car. My mom bought my car with less than 5 miles on it and when I turned 16 it became mine. I''ve never had a bit of trouble out of my car. If your looking for speed its got it and the convertible makes it that much more better. The only thing I''ve did to my car is tinting the windows and putting on Flowmasters. LOOKS LOOKS bright RED mine is, fully loaded, special blackcat dual exhaust, super engine air cooler over 220 horsepower with just the standard engine!!! Mustang and cameros are a peice of cake that are gone
Weakness:
leg room on driver side, wide, long door, but that is nothing compared to the strenghts. I bought this car only because i wanted one again. I crashed a similar one in 97 and just missed it to much. I was driving a grand am GT which was great, but not as great as this toy. This car is attention, this car is speed, this car won''t let you down if you take care of it. This car is the best for the price american built. Its all about looks, and about being known... Similar Products Used: Grand AM GT1 |

Pontiac Firebird Formula
Strength:
Power. The Ram-Air set up along with the dual cat''s nets 305HP. The car bolts from zero and chirps the gears through 1st and second. The rear is 3.23''s which are ok, but I may go shorter.
Weakness:
The negative attention the car gets from Police and other drivers. Right away, police follow the car and other drivers always want to race. No mechanical problems though, car runs flawlessly. I bought this LT1 Formula Convertible from a dealer in early 2001. I added the SLP Ram-Air Kit (Hood and Filter), Eibach Pro-Line Springs and flowmaster Exhaust. I love the car and drive it mainly on the weekends. The car is rare, delivered with option PO5 which only 37 out of 1036 Convertibles produced had in 1995. Option PO5 is Chrome Wheels. The Convertible has no speed limiter either, and I have driven past 155mph and car felt surprisngly competent. This LT1 also came with Dual cat''s which wee a rare find in 1995. It''s an awesome car. Trans Am
Strength:
Power, handeling, and braking.
Weakness:
Rough around the edges. Solid rear. This is my third Firebird, and is by far the best of the lot. My friends have great automobiles that include a Ferrari 550, BMW 850 CSI (Three), BMW 850i, and a Porsche Boxster S. One thing is clear. The Trans Am can beat all but the 550 in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Since the Trans Am is a 30K auto, this feat is quite an accomplishment. The Trams Am and Camaro are both outstanding values in the market place. Similar Products Used: 1994 Trans Am and 1995 Firebird. |
