Strength:

Awesome styling, corners like it's velcroed to the road, interior is as stunning as the exterior, an absolute blast to drive! I love this car to death!

Weakness:

microscopic glove compartment, cup holders are in a bad place, electrically adjustable seats would be nice, 1st gear is WAYYY too short. A bit of a pain in the butt to get the car you want, with the options you want, when you want it for a decent price, I got lucky.

Paid $33,900 (MSRP) and got a 3 year lease. I basically agree with most of the other reviews. This car is the most beautiful car on the road IMHO (well, maybe next to a Ferrari 360 Modena!) and drives every bit as great as it looks! The brakes are downright AWESOME! Quattro all wheel drive is a great feature, though I haven't really needed it yet. ABS, climate control and cruise control are standard, as are the leather seats. I have the combination leather/alcantara seats and love them! The back seats are pretty much useless, though I HAVE had a 3rd adult back there a few times, and they are always uncomfortable. The stereo is the best OEM stereo I've ever heard. The car cruises at triple digit speeds as quiet, stable, sure and effortless as anything out there. If you buy this car make sure you invest in a good radar detector (Valentine 1), because this car cannot be driven slowly!

Strength:

Style on wheels - inside and out.
Strong performance, great traction and brakes.

Weakness:

On the limit behaviour - allegedly... either way potentially damaging to residual values.
Clunky drive-train and gear-shift.
Poor fuel consumption
Sounds nothing like the original Quattro's
The price of buying (anything) in Britain...

This little car is all about design... the inside is just a good as the outside. What's more it drives very well, as long as your not expecting true sport-car performance.

Unfortunately, the TT's image has been marred by some reported on-the-limit handling issues. Not experiences any problems myself (however, I havent driven it at 140 into a progressive bend and slapped on the ancors - YET !) but am concerned on the affect this could have on residual values. Audi have some mods in the pipeline but not sure if these will adversely affect the handling/ride at "sane" speeds - boot spoiler is just that !

All said and done, I remain a committed fan.

Strength:

The Audi TT looks like nothing else on the road and cocoons the driver in a world of individuality.

Despite only displacing 1.8 litres, the engine feels much larger and spins eagerly up to the red line like a big turbine. The acceleration is never in the neck-snapping league because the power is delivered in a very linear but a quick look at the Speedo is all that is required to remind you of the performance that you have on tap. Overtaking is a simple matter of selecting any ratio that will give you in excess of 2000rpm and then flooring the fly-by-wire accelerator.
I am not going to pretend that I am the sort of driver who takes a car by the scruff of the neck and drives it everywhere at 101%. That sort of behaviour is fine on the racetrack but not acceptable on the road unless you have had a brain bypass. If that is what you are looking for in a review you had better tune out now because there will be no talk of four wheel drifts or stories about how I was going around a corner looking out of the side window. The real challenge of good driving is to know where the limits are and to drive within them making smooth and flowing progress. Your driving should not draw attention to you, the car has that angle more than covered.

Having only owned my TT for around six weeks, I have not even come close to discovering the limits but I know that they have been set pretty high as this car is still inspiring confidence long after others start to show signs of floundering. All of the controls combine to provide a very mature but feisty driving experience. Swapping ratios with the slick six speed box is a joy and despite what you may have read elsewhere by people who have driven the car for an hour or two, smooth progress is easily maintained. The view out of the low slung cockpit is much better that you might expect given the daringly swooping lines. I can probably best liken it to being in front of a widescreen TV playing some sort of futuristic arcade game.

The interior itself is beautifully put together and intuitive to use. I love the fact that you can hide the stereo away beneath its custom cover which bears the TT legend. With this array of lights and buttons out of the way and the on board computer display turned off, the driving experience harks back to sports cars of a different era. The equipment levels are however bang up to date with heated seats, climate control, remote closure, alarm/immobiliser, leather, headlamp washers, remote boot opening and much much more. Worthy of special praise is the lighting, night driving is a pleasure thanks to the brilliantly flat swathe of light that banished the darkness that stands between you and your destination.

On a more practical note, you would not buy this car if you want to take out more than one friend at a time as the rear seats are only a token gesture unless you happen to be one of the seven dwarfs. The boot (or trunk if you are on the other side of the pond) is actually surprisingly capacious and hungrily swallows most of what is thrown its way.

The thing about this car is that it gives you equal amounts of pleasure whether you are driving it, cleaning it, looking at it or just sitting in it. You feel like a conquering hero returning home every time that you return to the car, that is if you can bear to be parted from it in the first place. This car is a piece of rolling sculpture a car and to compare it to other machinery really missed the point.

Weakness:

Ok, so by now you will have probably got the message that I rather like my TT so is love truly blind? Unfortunately not but the niggles are few and far between.

The seats could certainly be better and lack lumbar adjustment. Why Audi persists with a tilting mechanism for seat height adjustment is beyond me. It took me nearly a month to find a comfortable driving position but persistence pays off. Another triumph of design over function is the radio antenna that is built into the rear window. Vandals may not be able to snap it off and use it as an instrument or torture but is not as effective as a regular item with the signal regularly being dropped long before a conventional unit would give up.
Here in the UK, the Bose Speakers and CD player are pretty much the only options but are very expensive. The system sounds great but basic features such as random play over all six discs are missing. There is no Sat Nav option over here, Cruise cannot be specified and seat adjustment is manual. These may not be appropriate for a sports car but surely the buyer should decide, not the manufacturer.

My final moan is that the car will now have to be fitted with a rear spoiler, appropriate name really as it will inevitably detract from the ultra clean cut lines.

If you are considering the purchase of this car then I suspect that all that stands between you and ownership is a rather frustrating wait for delivery. Believe me, the wait is worth it. Every journey feels special and you seem to bond with the car rather just merely drive it. You will look for excuses to take it out and excuses not to when the weather is bad. It may well have the legendary Quattro system but surely driving it through a puddle will impede your route to heaven. This car is everything that you hope it will be and the fact that some of the motoring hacks are less than enthusiastic because they cannot drive it sideways everywhere only goes to show what a thoroughly competent package Audi have provided for our enjoyment. Go and lap it up, chances like this are few and far between.

Weakness:

Speeding tickets, flamboyant. Everyone stairs at us. Wife doesn't wanna drive car anymore. Lack of rear access for baby girl -- but can leave with it.

The best value for money in the market today. Handling, power, fuel economy, and space. When I bought the car I'd read a lot of reviews from this site and I didn't even test drive. I was really impressed the day I picked it up from the dealership.

Strength:

Handling, stylish and fun to drive

Weakness:

Doesn't have it under the hood and it is too small for large people. This car was probably designed with the females in mind.

I thought the Audi TT was one of the coolest looking cars that I went out and bought one. It was a completely loaded convertible (225HP version) and it had less than 3 miles on it when I picked it up. Anyway, it did handle pretty good (especially in the rain), seemed pretty quick and was quite stylish inside.

Now the down side and why I got rid of it... I am a tall person and it began to get uncomfortable getting in and out of the car. It seemes as if I didn't have enough leg room and I was getting cramped for space. I figured that the Audi TT was pretty quick until I started having some fun with the kids that had mustangs and camaro's. They were beting the pants off me and the cars were less money! Although I didn't buy the car for racing I would have figured that I wuld have gotten more for the price I paid. I guess 225 HP isn't nearly enough. I beagan to compare the Audi TT to the M3 (I like luxury over performance) and it wasn't even close. After 8 months I traded it in and got the M3. What a difference....

Strength:

When you first get into the Audi TT or just see it driving down the road the first thing you notice is its unique styling. It's excellent with attracting attention of all ages. Not a day went by without having someone asking me something about that car. It had an extremely well precisioned clutch and steering. So tight and methodical you could bounce or feather the clutch slam the gas and manuver yourself into a 8 foot gap in traffic without breaking a sweat. The gas mileage was above average for most sports cars because it's a simple 1.8 liter Turbo engine that's just designed to reach it's maximum horsepower output. The cockpit of this made you feel like you were in total control of every aspect of the car at all times. Very intuitive.

Weakness:

Unreliable. If it's a weekend driving car, don't hesitate to buy it. But I had quite a few problems with mine and wasn't to impressed even though Audi did repair it free of charge every time (including supplying me with a rental during that time). The turbo does have a half a second lag which can get annoying. The clutches stiffness that I listed as a strength can be an extreme weakness because in stop and go traffic it becomes very tiresome and annoying. Like I said though, if it's only a weekend type driving car, go for it.

I was impressed with the Audi TT and still am. The quality of some of the interior components lacks the robustness of such competitors like BMW but it makes up for it in excellent style and engineering else-where. The motor in this Audi TT however reminded me of a cheap souped up jetta 1.8 turbo. I enjoyed all the comments and looks, but the car was too unreliable and definately not a good every day driving car (but then again, what roadster is?). Buy this immediately if you want a weekend car, but if you want a sportscar you can take around everywhere, I dunno get a BMW 330Ci. :-)

Similar Products Used:

BMW Z3 '01 3.0 - Not really much of a comparison here. Unfortunately the get up and go isn't there with these Z3's (atleast out of the box), the Audi TT could beat it in speed any day. The Z3 did have some strengths like the engine and drivetrain quality, but everything else it lacked.

Honda S2000 - Not a bad car by any means but was built with a _very_ single minded view. This car is absolutely NOT forgiving. The suspension, steering and handling are all extremely stiff and refined almost to the point where you wonder why you really need a nascar like sport's roadster on a highway with a speed limit of 55. The car was fast, faster than the Audi, but it didn't matter after a while you get sick of it always accelerating too quickly and it's literally impossible to lower the rev amount and just accelerate slower. The engine will die if you decide to feather an EXTREMELY short clutch and if you let go, well, ZOOM. Hope you have good rear-end collision insurance ;-). Oh, and the interior on this car looks like it's off of a cheap 13K civic. Don't buy it, save up for a TT or Z3.

Strength:

Six speed. Audi Quattro. Style. Fun to drive and all season capability. Excellent brakes. Automatic climate control, very good radio/CD player.

Weakness:

Questionable build quality - problems with fuel gauge, driver side window, rattles and squeaks.
Hard/tricky to launch the car fast because of the turbo.
Wish it had a 2.3 liter turbo 5 cylinder engine (the one used in Volve S60 T5).

Very nice overall sports car. Easy and fun to drive. This may not be the pure, single minded sports car but its the best one to drive all day and all season (and still have fun with it). Its absolutely an attention grabber and I mean both inside and out.

Similar Products Used:

S2000 - no torque. Interior is just boring. Can't drive it in winter (even with snow tires). Tricky handling. Noisy.
BMW Z3 3.0 - Excellent all around power. Extremly Noisy (can't talk to the sales person at speed above 130 Km/H even with the top up). Radio is useless. No automatic climate control.
All the other sports cars are not as friendly to drive as the Audi TT.

Weakness:

No cup holders - what is the point of the rear seats.

After three months of waiting I took delivery of my silver coupe. I then drove to Capetown and back home to Gaborone (3000kms). The car is a joy to drive both round town and on the open road - corners are a new experience especially when you exit at 160km. The reactions of people in remote sreas of the northern cape were also amazing - one person in a merc followed me through a small town and waved me down so he could look at the car. The design team need an oscar.
