Roomy. Great appearance.
Weakness:
Too many to list. This is my second Montana. I owned and 1999 and now own a 2001. The 1999 I never had a serious problem with. The 2001 has been a lemon since day one. Thank goodness it is still under warranty, although the service dept. has had it in their possesion just about as much as I have. Rear A/C repaired 4 times. Brakes 3 times. Tierod replaced. Leaked in roof - headliner, carpet and TV seal replaced. Rear tail light seal replaced 3 times. Battery cracked and was replaced. Alternator replaced. The list goes on. However, with only 32000 miles on it, I will not. I will never purchase another Montana. Similar Products Used: 1999 Montana, 1997 Jimmie. |

Reliability, roomy, it handles well even in the snow. We had a flat tire and was able to fill it with the on board compressor. Interior detail is great and the kids have used the Montana Vision for many hours of games and movies.
Weakness:
None, this is the ideal family vehicle. We bought this family vehicle for every day use and extended trips. We have over 80,000 miles on it and still love it. We have followed all the maintenance suggestions. However, we have put this van through some pretty rough trips. No disappointments. Similar Products Used: Chevy Astro (2), Blazer (2) |

roomy we like the air pump for biking
Weakness:
structural integrety lots of rattles, even early on very difficult to repair in engine area; e.g. just a battery replacement costs over $60 labor since they have to take out a big bar just to get to it. I bought this van the first year out based on great reviews. What a mistake; last time we will buy American. This is the most expensive car to maintain I've ever owned. Should have gotten the extended warrentee. Here are just a few nightmares (up to 55,000 mi.): tierod out power door out 4 times stereo module (CD/radio/clock) replaced ignition key system out power steering out water pump out including gaskets ($1800!) heater out fuel injectors clogged 5 times wireless key out running light sockets shorted out (not sealed against water) headlight reflectors water damaged handle to close the rear hatch came off in my hand the first week all hoses replaced after overheating and loss of coolant manual driver-side passenger sliding door adjusted 3 times; still doesn't close properly middle vent windows vibrate open and closed alternator out (took batter with it) |

When my husband and I test drove this van after looking at Windstars, Caravans, Town and Country's, he said that they were all starting to look alike, until we saw this Montana-HE jumped in the drivers seat, and said "this is the one" My kids love it and I have a day care out of my home and I need to fit 5 child seats, and they fit GREAT! My oldest daughter can't wait until I have to drive her to school.
Weakness:
Haven't found any, and I would say yet, but I don't want to jinx myself. My first mini-van, and I love it! Bought it with 61,000 miles and the only problem I had was the AIRBAG light is on and 2 days after I had it the emergency brake light would not go off, but my husband took the right rear tire off and figured out that it was a loose brake line, took it back to the dealer and they fixed it, no problem. My sister owns a 2003 Dodge Caravan, not big enough, and no where near as nice as the Montana, inside or out. Mom owns a 2001 Chevy Venture, that van is REALLY bad, NEVER will I buy a Chevy Venture. Everything has gone wrong with that. I went from a Ford Explorer and thought that I would definately go into another Ford. Not the case, I love this van, inside and out! I really like the Windstars, but too expensive. I got a GREAT looking van, for a GREAT price. The only thing that my van doesn't have is the leather and TV, but that is okay, I don't need the leather and Santa can bring me a TV. Strength:
Roomy, great looks and good gas mileage
Weakness:
Electrical system Since we bought the Montana we have had problems with the interior and exterior lights diming and come back bright every morning on my way to work.Sometimes only once or twice but on rainy days it looks like a strobe light coming down the road. We took it back to the dealership and they replaced the altenator but that did not help.We were told there was a recall on that problem and they installed a ground wire which did not help. After having it in the shop a few more times we decided to contact GM and were told they would not pay for service to check it out even tho it has been a problem since purchase. Very eye pleasing. Mine rides great and MPG is fantastic. Plenty of comfortable seating.
Weakness:
Too many things going wrong right around 40,000 miles and 80,000 miles. Take you pick. Not too happy right now. Van is one of the best looking Van's at the time. I have a fully loaded Van, electric door, windows, seats, Montana vision (which I can't hear because the electrical system is terrible). Fuel pump when out at 34,000. Now 4 years old transmission is gone and costs 3200 to fix by the dealer. I think a class action suit might be needed as the 1991 Grand Prix did with it's brakes. OH, electric passenger window doesn't work either. I can get the montana vision sound to come on if I play with the fan speed sometimes if I put it on speed 2or3 it works? Great Looking minivan !! I liked the neptune blue two tone color very much.
Weakness:
Not much power AC not efficient Horrible ride- tires squeak and screech FELL FOR ITS LOOKS HOPING APPEARANCES WOULD NOT BE DECEPTIVE THIS TIME!! IT IS A PEICE OF CRAP. Avoid this vehicle at all costs. Wanted a minivan for family's growing needs so went for a best looking van in the market. As soon as I took possession rain kept wetting the carpet due to a forgotten seal in the underbody. and then... -@25k miles power door failed -@30k temp sensor malfunctions -@40k miles fuel module failed -@40k Steering started skipping -@42k replaced tierod -@44k all engine coolant leaked and mixed with engine oil.. gasket replaced -@48k steering continued to skip .. replaced steering gear @52k steering continues to skip replaced tires, got allignment done, replaced steering gear again. @54k steering still continues to skip and ride is terrible.. tires squeak at lowspeed turns Only a lawyer should be able to fix my van now. |

Awsome on Gas! 1000kms on highway per tank! Lotsa power(burn out in a minivan? YES! :P) Awsome Sound system
Weakness:
Windshield Leaked, broke power door, ABS/traction control. Wiper motor on both gets stuck. Great Van Had 2 99s. One Trans Sport one Montana. With the montana package, you get an awsome setup! Go for top of the line! GM makes great sound systems. The doors rattle at high volume! Great on gas, loads of room. Even if you buy a base model its better eqqiped than a ford dodge or whatever. GM invented most of the stuff you see on the other vans. Power sliding door. TV, they had it first. BUY ONE! |

Lots of power. Good in snow and on ice. Great antilock braking. You feel safe in the passenger cabin.
Weakness:
Electrical system. Rear door handle broke after 80000 KM. Why? Cheap, that's why. No major problems after 85000 KM in 2.5 years. Right power mirror is noisy lately. Driver's side power doorlock button is intermittent at times. Rear wiper motor started to go intermittent (after 10 minutes of rain) at 55000 KM. Not taken to dealer. At 85000 KM it konked out. The dealer quoted $293.50 plau tax of $40.00 plus labor to replace. All these are Canadian dollar numbers (=$325 US). Junkyard wanted $250 for a used motor. The same thing happened on my Mother's 2001 Chevy Venture van, but was replaced within warranty. I decided to take my motor apart tonight and found that the shaft was seized. I remover it and slowly dripped liquid wrench and oil down around the shaft and fixed the problem. The dealers are probably doing the same 10 cent repair and passing it off as a major $$$ fix. I've driven worse than this Montana and its definitley better looking than most other vans on the market. Similar Products Used: Venture van. Same vehicle as Montana basically. |

Strong on the highway when running good. Lots of options for this van.
Weakness:
poor fuel injection system. Suspension isnt the highest quality I should have gone with the facts right before my eyes when Ipurchased this minivan. There was a maintanance rating list hanging on the wall in the sales office. Pontiac was on the bottom of that list! But this is the best looking van we've seen my wife said. That automatic pasenger door and the good looks sucked us right in! whats up with the intake manifold gaskets on these vans? Blew at 42g's. Been through 3 sets of front break pads, replaced both front rotors and a tyrod end. This van has been in the shop 4 times for clogged injectors. In fact it's there right now for that reason. This time they say all 6 injectors are failing and need to be replaced. Each time they tell me it's the fuel im using but i've switched stations every time! Even went to premium. Van is still under waranty but they wont cover the injectors this time because they have already done that once. Is this a lemon or are all Montana's this crappy? Similar Products Used: none |
