Nissan Quest (2009 and older) Minivans | Wagons

Nissan Quest (2009 and older) Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The 2009 Nissan Quest continues as the most distinctive and original minivan on the market – as well as one of the roomiest minivans in its segment. Following a major redesign just two years ago, changes for 2009 are minimal. The 2009 Quest is offered in four well-equipped models – 3.5, 3.5S, 3.5SL and 3.5SE.

The Nissan Quest powertrain comes from its standard 235-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and responsive suspension design. A Traction Control System (TCS) is also standard, while Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) is standard on the 3.5 SE model.

Road car handling is not an afterthought with the Quest. The Nissan Quest features a 4-wheel independent suspension with a rear multi-link design and front and rear stabilizer bars. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is also standard, along with 4-wheel vented disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

Standard Quest safety features include Nissan’s Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors, front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags and roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for outboard occupant head protection for all three rows, front seat Active Head Restraints and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Strength:

It is very comfortable, very roomy. I like the looks of it. I love the rear air conditioning.

Weakness:

The front end shakes between the speeds of 60-70. The side windows never sound like they are closed when driving. The outside dents very easily. The vcr/tv combo shorted out after 4 uses and burned a large hole in the center of my two front seats. The warranty was only for 3 months and I had not used it continuously for that amount of time or this would have happened in time for the warranty help. This is not a product of nissan but I feel it is their responsibilty to use products that are safe if they are offering them as a rebate.

I paid 24,000 for my van and I would reccomend it to anyone if you could get it for a better price. I would be careful if it comes with the tv/vcr combo that sits in between the two front seats. I have had my van for a little over a year and have had no major problems with the van. I have 15k miles on it now.

Mercury Villiager. I was very pleased with my villager. I had 80k on it and had a few minor problems. I had it for 3 years. So far I have liked my villiager better than I have liked my nissan.

Strength:

Great ride, nimble, very smooth and quiet V-6, good power, no rattles, comfortable, good fit and finish, decent minivan mileage (24 mpg cross country at 75 mph!), no leaks, drips or oil burning at 47K miles. Everything works fine.

Weakness:

Front brakes are noisy - they click most of the time and when we had road contruction in our neighborhood, the dirt made them squeal for a few days. They work great, however. Blind spot in LH mirror, solved by sticking on one of those small, convex mirrors ($1.29 at Pep Boys).

We paid $12,500 w/42K miles in the spring of 2000. It was in mint condition - not a flaw. You could eat off the engine or floors. Because we bought it at a Nissan dealership, they warranteed the drivetrain to 32K more miles/2 years. We just moved from New England to Minnesota and I drove it out. It got great mileage for a minivan (24mpg @ 75 mph), cruised great and was very comfortable for my 6'3" frame. I had hurt my back beforehand and it never bothered me during the trip.

So far so good. We hope to get 150K out of it before any major work needs to be done. The Honda went well until 180K, but it doesn't have the weight or wind load, which places strain on a transmission and drive train. I don't believe one can expect that kind of reliability from a minivan, although it is not unheard of. I think the Nissan V-6 will go that far, but the struts, transmission, axles, etc likely won't. Just the nature of the beast.

Honda Accord Wagon, lots of Dodge Caravan fleet vehicles and rentals. Hoping for Honda relaibility. Every fleet Dodge transmission went out at 60K miles and their ride and shifting is mushier. Otherwise they seem to compare fairly well.

Strength:

It has a car like ride, nimble and tight.

Weakness:

The transmission went out at 120K costing us over $3000 for a rebuilt one to be installed. Our break lights keep having problems due to a socket error. This has angered many a following motorist at stoplights.
Another problem was the header stud broke and now there is exhaust leaks.
A rock hit my condesor radiator and caused a big bill there should have been a grill protecting it since it cost so much.

I almost bought a 2000 but the Windstar seems to have made a better van for 2000. Nissan doesn't offer that competitive a rebate and the styling is much better on the Windstar. I think that if the transmission didn't go out I would sauy buy the Nissan despite the looks but now I am not sure.

I have had a Windstar and a voyager and preffered the Nissan overall the Nissan 2000 has lost my vote due to the plain/ugly appearance.

Strength:

Exterior and Interior is great.

Weakness:

The Engine and Brakes are terrible, I have repaired it 4 times in a year, still have the same problems.

If I am having problems with the Brakes itself, what could be my review on this van, if the interior/exterior is great but the main part does not work....

Strength:

I have never had any trouble out of it. It has been a great van with a good get up and go. After owning it for 5 years, it has never left me stranded. The outside appearance is so attractive. It has 140,000 miles and it is still going.

Weakness:

The transmission has a little pause in it shifting out of first. The windshield washer fluid has had trouble coming out since we bought it. It just has a pause. Sometimes it takes hitting it several times to get it to come out. I had it replaced several times (under warranty). However, they could not find the problem. I have just learned to accept it.

I paid $18,500.00 for this vehicle. I really would recommend it. Especially when comparing it to a American made car. There is no comparsion.

I had a Toyota Corolla that I sold with 200,000 miles. I never did any work to it. I really preferred a Toyota but they did not have a good looking van when I bought this one.

Strength:

Power / Looks / Reliability / Comfortable front seats

Weakness:

A bit cramped in the back if you're a bigger person / Weak stereo

My family has been leasing this van since 1994, and I'm pretty impressed. I haven't driven the 1994 one that much, but the 1998 I drive a lot. I enjoy the power from the engine. For a minivan, I was surprised. It is very smooth all the way up the tach, and never rattles or jumps like my Century.

As far as comfort goes, the Quest is a mixed bag. The front seats and the two captain's chairs in the middle are pretty comfortable, but the rear bench is a pain to get in and out of, as with most minivans.

We've never had any problems with our quests, and although we probably won't get another one (we're looking into a Montero as the next family car) I think it's been a pleasant ride.

If you're looking for a sporty little minivan to get from place to place, you need not look any further.

Strength:

I loved the way it handles. TV/VCR nice for trips.

Weakness:

Wind Noise from Side Windows - In a recent accident, the front seatbelts did not catch and airbags did not deploy even with significant front end damage. I hit the steering wheel at impact. Possibly my van was just defective, but it seems strange that the safety features did not work properly.

Paid 22,500. It is being repaired with approximately $7,000 in damage from rear-ending another vehicle at approximately 20mph. I am extremely concerned from a safety standpoint. Also, upon impact middle seat broke. I do feel if the airbags had deployed and the seatbelt functioned properly, I would not have been injured.

Strength:

I liked the way it looked. I think it looked really sporty. I liked the shape.

Weakness:

I didn't like the little things that went wrong. Like the heater stopped working, the power window driver had to be replaced at 90,000 mi. I didn't like that I had to go to the dealership to have it serviced. It cost an arm and a leg everytime I had it serviced. And parts were never in stock so had to be without a car for a week. After 60,000 mi. was real rattly and noisey. The passenger seat spring unsprung, causing a very uncomfortable seat.

It was a good price at the time. I think they make vans more luxurious now, than in 1994. But it served its purpose. Lots of room. Seats weren't easy to re-arrange, though. Middle bucket seats kind of hard to remove and they were very heavy. I am getting a Toyota Sienna next. I love the reliability of the Toyota and easier to find maintenance.

Strength:

Smooth ride.Handles like a car. Removed middle seat.Very spacious. Excellent for long road trips.Good acceleration/pickup. Never had any engine problems. Gas approx 20-22 mpg

Weakness:

After about a year brakes started squeaking alot, also driver side door and sliding door electric lock started sticking intermittently. Still does. Starting to sound noisy with all windows closed while driving.

Paid $21,000/XE model. If significant improvements were made to the weaknesses listed above, I would definitely recommend it. Would also recommend buyer do homework as to what significant changes occured after similar products were owned after one year.

Strength:

Tight, quiet ride. Comfortable interior, sound system good. Handles well, tight turning radius. Reliable now.

Weakness:

Did have a lot of ticky-tacky problems in beginning- radiator, door locks, fuel injector problem, ignition switch. Nissan customer service(not dealer). Initial acceleration slow.

Paid 21,000 with 10,000 miles on it. This was the GXE model.
Overall, after persistant problems with it, it has run trouble free for the last year. Relatives have Villager with no problems, must have a semi-lemon. I would buy another one, however my wife would say no to that idea.
