Strength:
Sliding door windows, tumble down-tailgate seat. Great colors(mine is silver), Rear entertainment center
Weakness:
Not powerful like my Quest, armrest does feel a little low(i''ll get use to it), gear does block the view of the CD button. I reseached to find the best van I could for the money I was willing to spend. Started off checking out the Kia Sedona, then the Honda Ody. Stubbled across the MPV. Once I saw the roll down windows and 3rd row tumble down seat, I was sold. I wheeled and dealed between 4 different dealers until I got the price I wanted. I have only had the van for 3 days. We have the LX with the entertainment package. The kids love it! I had been driving a 1996 Nissan Quest which I loved, we had 114,000 miles on it and it was in excellent condition! My recommendation if you are looking to buy a minivan but don''t particularly like mini van is to give MPV a try. It''s sporty looking, drives like a car and you can''t beat the seating configuration! Similar Products Used: 1996 Nissan Quest-it was great but my 5-7 teenage son was really getting a little too cramped. |

Mazda MPV LX
Strength:
Great sound system, four roll down windows, good cockpit, comfortable seats. Looks and drives very nicely.
Weakness:
Could use more passing power but fine other than that. Sunroof shade rattles. Needs better convenience lighting for passengers. Back window collects dust too easily (needs something to deflect wind onto the back window to keep it clear). Back seats ok for kids...not recommeded for tall adults. MPV a pleasure to drive and own, even after one year and 15000 miles. Got the LX with touring pkg, moonroof, etc., Teal in color. Has more room inside than it looks like it would from the outside. Similar Products Used: First Van. Test drove Chevy and Honda vans. Checked out Chrysler and Ford vans owned by friends. MPV=best bang for the bucks. |

Strength:
Styling, functionality, usable storage (well). The ride is smoth and the sound system is terrific.
Weakness:
The dealer can really ruin the experience, make sure that the vehicle is serviced (alignment, tires, suspension) prior to delivery. We searched for the best value and got what we were looking for in the MPV. I can''t imagine a more "user friendly" vehichle. Our 3 daughters have tons of room and we are very excited about our upcoming trip to Philadelphia. The sound system is outstanding, controls crisp and easy to use and the styling is in a class by itself. We are extremely happy with the ride and power. I have a lead foot and have caught myself coasting at 80 MPH and thought that I was going 55. I would recommend this vehicle to everyone. I would not recommend all dealers though. Make sure that you take the vehicle on a test drive. There is definitely some issues with the alignment, tire pressure and suspension after traveling half-way around the world with the tires over inflated and the suspension ratcheted down for transport. The adjustments should be standard and after it has been adjusted the ride is fantastic. Every dealer is not alike, every service department is not alike. Our dealer offers free life time oil changes and definitley understand the vehicle. We checked the alignment and it was perfect. BUY A MPV, You won''t be sorry. Strength:
Really neat features - very similar to the honda. Rear windows are very nice. The sliding middle seat and the tumble-under rear seats are too clever to pass up. A refresing change of pace from the Caravan (woof woof - what a dog!)
Weakness:
Somewhat weak engine, but it''s a minivan for cryin out loud! Worthy second choice for those who cannot locate/afford a Honda. We want to thank this site for the honest unbiased reviews... "professional" reviewers seemed to dislike it, we love it. The sliding/locking seat is incredibly clever - we looked at a Toyota but passed because of the difficulty getting in and out of the rear seats. What were they thinking?? We also took very seriously the "sludge" problem with the Toyota. A Toyota mechanic confirmed it for us. It has only been 2 months and 1000 miles, but we are very pleased. Dismiss the low power comments - seriously folks, it is not a sports car. It fits squarely in the "adequate" category. We came from a caravan with a 4 cylinder, so this is a rocket ship to us. The Ford engine doesn''t make me warm and fuzzy, but the fact that it is the only Japanese built minivan makes up for it. Quality concerns are carefully balanced with profit margins, unlike the domestic automakers. Similar Products Used: Dodge Caravan, Toyota Sienna |

Love the ride and comfort of the seats(leather is of high quality)AC ice cold
Weakness:
poor gas milage Love the ride and comfort of the seats(leather is of high quality)AC ice cold. I can''t understand the poor gas milage. I seem to be getting better gas milage from my Ford Explorer with a V8? All the magazine car reviews give it better gas milage then I am getting? Some where between 10 to 15 miles per gallon? I use the AC a lot living in FL but I also use my AC alot in my Ford explorer? Anyone else out there find the poor gas milage? Similar Products Used: Kia Sedone,Honda oddessy,Toyota Sienna |

Strength:
Great styling, handles very well( sedan-like), not too big( we didn''t want a large van)the MPV does almost everything very well. Love the roll down rear windows and tumble under seat. Great OEM audio system.
Weakness:
Low end torque is weak. Wiper stalk is a joke, you need a PHD in enginering to operate. Very happy with our 01 MPV LX. We have almost 7000 miles and have had no problems. Similar Products Used: None |

Mad Nomad
Strength:
Nice look, flexibile interior, quiet engine.
Weakness:
Low power, vibrations, no spaces for drivers legs. At the beginning I believe I did good deal, but as soon I started driving tha car on the highway, vibrations started. Mazda mechanics balanced tires and claimed problem is fixed but still I got vibrations if driving 118-130km. I believe this is because underpowered engine. They can''t do much about it. My concern is: If you shahe anything long enough - will broke. What will be broken in Mazda - wait and will se. Similar Products Used: Dodge Caravan, Toyota Sienna |

MPV 2 WD
Strength:
Seats eight people, the back bench is a little squishy. Full size spare tire is located under the backend, Great stereo, Lots of storage for maps, cassettes, etc. Smooth ride Fairly reliable.
Weakness:
Only one back window was designed to open up making it an oven in the summer. (The new MPV''s now have roll down windows - a brilliant idea, finally!!)The rear wheel drive made winter driving scary.(I recomend 4X4) Many of the controls for the rear wiper, cruise and rear heat were obstructed by the steering wheel. The side flip door sucks especially when you have kids. My kids dented many car doors because of the big flip out door. The cup holders (located on the side of the front passenger''s seat) are a bad design, they are not deep enough. This caused alot of spilled coffee and pop mess! The oil dipstick and tranny fluid are very hard to get at. The MPV has a plate in the doors that makes it VERY hard to jimmy the doors open, making it a hard van to steal! Even the CAA (AAA) guys had a hard time opening our door(after my hubby locked the keys in the van). If you buy an used MPV, beware that they are one of the MOST EXPENSIVE van to repair!! We bought this 1992 MPV van in May of 96 for $14,000 Canadian after our Caravan was stolen on my first Mother''s Day!. It was a great van, very reliable until the past two years. The first repair was replacing the a/c after a few months of owning the van, we also had to replace the rear suspension (load leveler) then the torque converter went , followed by the entire frontend suspension had to be replaced , then a few month later the timing belt went. Our van was an eight seater which was handy when transporting family and friends . It has a great stereo system. After 257,000 kms. we can''t complain, we had a lot of fun family and good times in our van. Similar Products Used: We had a Caravan that was stolen and later burned to the ground, the 9 months that we had it, we had to replace the water pump. Strength:
If it doesn't start why bother with any strengths!
Weakness:
Does the fact that the MPV won't start consistently count as a weakness, even after the dealer had it for a week? They claim they replaced an ERG valve. We bought the MPV new with less than 50 miles on the odometer. Within the first few days it revealed a tendency not to start consistently. We returned it to the dealer who replaced the ERG valve, whatever that is, claiming to have solved the problem. The first day back from the shop it still won't start consistently. Avoid the MPV unless you enjoy the uncertainty of whether your car will start every time you or wife gets in it. btw We've owned a much maligned Chevy Astro that now has 195,000 miles on it and it has never failed to start. Thank god we didn't trade it in as we need at least one reliable vehicle and the 2001 MPV isn't it. Similar Products Used: We own a Chevy Astro with 195,000 miles We compared the MPV to the Villager, Windstar and Odyssey. Unfortunately for us we bought the MPV. |
