Strength:

Simplicity, handling, driver visibility, size.

Weakness:

Towing capacity, electronic sensor malfunctions.

This van has been good to us. It is a base model with the 3.0 at 40,000 miles. We get reasonable (22-25 mpg) gas mileage in the city while leaving most vehicles behind in traffic. Warranty repairs include transmission sensor failure (wouldn't shift past 2nd gear), Fuel gauge sensor failure.

Strength:

NONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Transmission, head gaskets, brakes, poor customer service whether at the dealership or Ford in Detroit.

This is the worst vehicle we have ever owned. The first month we owned the vehicle it was in the shop for 17 days (needed brakes and a new transmission. This should have warned us. Then when the transmission had only 17,000 miles on it, it blew when we were on vacation (7/2001) out of state. We called Ford in Detroit (useless people), but we were told since it only had 17,000 miles on it (the warranty expired 2 months prior), that we could have it fixed at a local garage and we would be reimbursed ($1900). When we got home and went to our dealer for reimbursement, we were told they changed their mind and wouldn't give us our money back. 3 different people from Ford told us we would get our money back. Still never saw any money. In Jan 2002, we blew a head gasket, found out that there was a recall on it. Called Ford and they said no they woldn't pay for it since the recall was too old. We never received any notices. I said it doesn't matter the problem is still there. She just said sorry we're not paying for it. I can't believe that all these problems are going on and Ford has yet to own up to any of these recalls and pay for it. The lousy car was 6 years old and at the time and on it's 3rd transmission. I will NEVER buy another Ford vehicle again. My family has stayed away from Ford also since the terrible treatment for it's customers.

Strength:

Good looking van, interior set up nice, great on long trips.

Weakness:

The 3.8 liter motor is a disaster! So far I've replaced head gaskets, 2 power steering pumps, and numerous recall items.

This van sucks! I just got done spending $1700 to replace both head gaskets on my 3.8 liter motor, with only 71,000 miles on it. Nice job Ford!

Strength:

Roomy seating, handles well.

Weakness:

as stated above, poor workmanship and unhappy with solutions

Never again! It is designed to make your life hell!! Recall on engine, transmission. When replaced by dealer only took 4 months. Dealership / Ford offers no loaner. After replacement air conditioner, speedometer & cruise control does not work. Again, Ford quailty! (Screwed Again) Now problems with brake fluid and abs lights. Ford issues recall but dealership states nothing is wrong. Another problem, door ajar light remains on along with inside light. I think Ford does stand for fix or repair daily and I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT AGAIN!!!! I will walk before that happens!

Strength:

Drives good, comfortable, good gas mileage, and is roomy for passengers.

Weakness:

Hard front seats, ABS problems, speedometer problem, brake problems.

This vehicle was made to give an owner a headache from "Hell". From the beginning, the ABS system and brake system has been a problem. The ABS light and brake warning lights came on intermittently and would go off when the key was turned off. After many trips to several dealers and being told it was a "glitch" in the electrical system the problem was solved with the ABS. In addition, the wheels could not be aligned properly because the adjustment mechanism for the camber was not visible. Also, the idle sensor malfunctioned and had to be replaced. This all occured with less than 40,000 miles. Now the speedometer is erratic and needs to be replaced at a cost of $500.

Strength:

Ride, quality, design, Maxwell Ford.

Weakness:

Price

This is the best Minivan I have ever owned! It has dual electric sliding doors that are the best. It rides like a car and gets 18 mpg. I have never had anything major go wrong and when I did Maxwell Ford went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. I would recommend Maxwell Ford and their Internet Sales dept to anyone looking for a good deal.

Strength:

Roomy, nice interior. Stylish.

Weakness:

I guess you get what you pay for. The reliability is not great at all.

I bought my 98 Windstar GL3.8 with 54,000 kilometers, and the problems have been running ever since. At 60,000 the transmission and tire rods needed to be replaced. At 72,000 kms the rack-and-pinion crapped out. At 100,000 kms the alternator needed to be replaced (making a high pitched sound). The door sensors are acting up, the power mirrors and windows don''t work. The van makes a loud "clunk" when you shift from park to reverse, the steering is extremely noisy at low speeds, and there is a rattling noise coming from the engine when it is under 1,000 RPM. We take good care of our cars (they are a major investment) by making sure we change the oil at regular intervals, and we don''t drive like race drivers. Yet this POS is falling apart!

Strength:

None that I can find.

Weakness:

Transmission, head gasket, brakes, etc.

This van is the worst vehicle I''ve ever owned. Replaced the transmission at 66,000 miles (not under warranty) and again at 85,000 miles. First transmission replaced at dealership, second replaced at Aamco. The dealership was horrible and refused to negotiate on cost, even after the 2nd transmission failed. Ford headquarters in Michigan was just as useless. Since the warranty had expired, it was just too bad. This was the first and last Ford that I will ever own and I will never buy from Ricart again. Once they get their money, they don''t want to hear from you again unless you''re going to purchase.

Strength:

good ride, decent mileage.

Weakness:

Too many recalls. No concern for bad engine repair from Ford or dealer. this is the last Ford I will ever own.

purchased 2000 Windstar SE. Began burning oil from first oil change. Had dealer do every oil change since new to document oil usage. after 1 yr, told dealer to fix problem. They recommended an "in-chassis overhaul". That means they drop the oil pan and pull the heads to replace rings and other seals. Told the dealer I''m not comfortable with local grease monkey digging into my engine and honing cylinders, replacing rings, etc. Cealer refused to replace engine. Made several calls to Ford customer service. They are not offering anything more be done. I know this engine will have a limited life as a result. We now have a 30,000 mile vehicle with a half-assed ring job. wonder how much longer that will last?
