Strength:

Versatility, looks, price, gas mileage.

Weakness:

Stock speakers.Rubber molding. Slightly faulty stock stereo.

Bought the van in March 2001. I only have one child, but I''ve always been a van person. Great deal, especially since this car seems so much more versatile than an SUV. Gas mileage is just fine, again better than most SUV''s.Styling is very sporty for a minivan. Very smooth on the road.I haven''t even had the van for a year and already I''ve put 26000 miles on it. I drive this car almost 100 miles a day, on backroads no less. No major problems to report, except the stock speakers suck, I''ve already blown two of them, but whatever. My stock stereo is also a little bit defective as the treble level does not go all the way up, but I''ll get that fixed when I get the time. The rubber molding on the inside of the sliding doors does seem like they weren''t put in properly, but that''s easily repairable. The deal I got on this car far outweighs those minor problems. So far, so good. I''ll keep you guys posted.

Strength:

Comfortable, nice sound system, spacious, attractive looking vehicle inside and out, double sliding doors, smooth ride, quiet, decent gas mileage for such a large vehicle. Oh, and great child proof locking system...very important when you have a 3 year old "boy houdini" in the making! :)

Weakness:

Air bag light comes on once in a while, sometimes wipers go off when using turn signal, occassionally the radio takes about a minute to kick in after van is started

After we started having children (we have 2 young boys now), we knew that we really wanted to get a van. We owned a 1994 Chevy Blazer, but that was totaled in a car accident (not much of a loss..it was a lemon!), so we were at the point where we were going to finally get our van. We looked at several different models, but really liked the look, interior, spaciousness and smooth ride of the Dodge Grand Caravan. We got a 1996 with one previous owner who kept all his maintenance records on it. It was well taken care of, so decided to make the big purchase. So far, no complaints! We love this van, and would definitely stick with the Dodge Caravan for future van purchases. The ride is smooth, the sound system is great, and the kids love it too. The double sliding doors are an added plus! Overall, great van for the money!

Its to heavy for me to into outerspace. Could also make a great artifical reef for sea life. It has kept me from worrying about having too much money lying around. If you cant dodge it then run it into a tree; wait dont do that the airbags dont work!!!

Weakness:

They cost to much new, they cost to much used and they ain''t worth a !##$$#ing dime!!!!

I should have saved myself the greif and just slit my wrists!!! What an unbeleiveable peice of !@##%$^&#$% this car is. I bought this car for more room for our growing family. I would have been beter off strapping a briggs and stratton to a wheelbarrow. I bought it used (mistake #1) because obviously someone else didnt like it enough to keep it. Bought it at 37,000 now has 67,000. The frst repair was the air conditioning and rear brakes to the tune of nearly 1800 dollars. The windsheild wipers go on when I ask them to and also when ever they feel like it. ABS cpu modual decided to take a holiday, along with the cruise control, front brakes and the drivers side window regulator. One motor mount gone. All of this will cost me $1000. And that doesnt even fix all that is wrong. Transmision is shot (why should anyone reading this be surprised with that by now)just a rebuild will cost $1400. Also the Air Bag light is on. If it hasnt been deployed how can it be broken? Condoms with less than 1mil. Thickness bathing in lubricants and spermicides have a three year life in the package! What the @#%#$#$? But hey the paints still good. Tried to trade it in to a Chrysler dealer; but I cant get any value for it. Did I tell them there was anything wrong with it? I didnt have to they already know that every thing they produce is a peice of crap!!!! I''m $10,000 upside down on it with no where to turn to. Looks like I''ll have to pull from my three year olds savings(feel like a theif!)This car has pretty much made me broke! Chrysler should be put out of buisness by the federal gov''t. Why oh why did we bail them out in the 80''s? If you are driving down the road and see a dodge or any other Chrysler vehicle coming your way, turn tail and run the other direcion so what ever disease they carry wont infect your car! STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!

Strength:

1. Rather cheap looking interior doesn''t look much worse than when new in 93. 2. Coat hanger thingies broke as soon as warranty expired. 3. We found a center console at an autoparts store that fits like a glove between the seats, and is a perfect amtch for color. 4. The carpet looked worn out a year after purchase, but has not gotten any worse in the ensuing 7 years. Coffee/beer/Kool-aid stains are now all blended together into a grey palette. 5. The engine has never failed, and runs very strong. This car is much more reliable than my 88 Volvo240.

Weakness:

1. Annoying rattle from the alloy wheel-bolt covers.

My daughter says that minivan-sport is major oxymoron, but we''re intending to buy another though with no kids at home we''ll be unusual minivan types. Our 94 was purchased new on October of 93, taken care of very carefully, and wrecked for about 9k damages to front and passenger side front at 60K miles in 96. Current mileage 117K and doing very well! How long do these things last? Still runs very smoothly, though road noise is pronounced. Tranny replaced as part of wreck repair, so no problems there. Over the years the belt tensioner failed, as well as the throttle linkage cable burning through - probably wreck-related as it was put back too close to the exaust manifold. Rear brake cylinder failed a few weks ago.

It only has 52,000 miles on it and now it wants to die as it is driven. I checked with nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/ and others are having the same problem. It will be interesting if some one can come up with a fix. Chrysler must not care as they haven''t recalled it.

I wanna write something about some reviews on this site, which are nothing more than BS.There is group of people that hate anything domestic. They dont do actual reviews.Their posts look like this: "Waste of money, buy Honda or Toyota" Yes there is group of folks like that, I know few of them in real life. And believe me they never owned domestic car, so how come they write review about them. I think I know a lot about cars,as I have owned Transmission repair shop for the last 20 years. There is one post about Crysler minivan which is clear BS. It''s something like that: "I bought new Chrysler van, now it has 30000 miles and needs 5th transmission already. It cost me a lot of money for those transmissions.Buy Honda or Toyota." That post is clear BS.I have never ever seen new car, that needed 5 transmissions during first 30000 miles. And how come it cost him so much money when that van was clearly under warranty? Another group of people here, they buy 10 year old car or truck for $1000 and expect problem free driving.Get real people. Remember, when you buy any used car, you are buying someone''s else headache. I have 2 cars in my shop right now, which are waiting for new transmissions. One is 96 Windstar van with 100000 miles and 95 Camry with 80000 miles. Both owners blamed automaker for failure. But neither of them changed transmission fluid and filter even once.I can say 90% of major car troubles are due to poor maintenance.Cars need more than just gas and tires people. My 1991 Caravan died 2 years ago with 180000 miles on it. Still with original engine and transmission. That van never gave me a trouble during 10 years. I also own 1994 Mazda 626, it has over 100000 miles and also no major problems. If you take good care of your car ,it''s gonna serve you for many years. Back to transmission problems on Caravans. Did I see more Caravans in my shop than lets say Toyota vans? Of course I did and you know why? It''s just in the numbers There is 5 000 000 Caravans on the roads and maybe around 400 000 Toyota vans. Let''s say if 2% of each of these vans have transmission problems it''s 100 000 caravans and only 8 000 Toyotas. But the percentage is still the same.Believe me I have seen BMW''s ,Hondas and every other brand in my shop. But as I said 90% of those transmissions problems were related to poor maintenance or bad driving habits

LEAKS WATER

I have only had this van for 3months love it but about a month ago I noticed a wet spot by the drivers door frame, thought maybe my window was left open a bit but it did not seem to go away as the rain really started to come down I noticed another wet spot behind the drivers seat next day still raining checked it out again and the carpet is soaked under the drivers seat pretty much the whole section behind the drivers seat and even in to the back . Spoke with Dodge it is going to cost at least $150.00 to find the problem then whatever cost to fix this . Has anyone come across this problem?

Strength:

Great, smooth ride. Nice amount of room. Very quiet.

Weakness:

Non-warrantied maintenance costs. Vehicle constantly pulls to the right, despite repeated allignments. Poor visibility from the driver''s seat. (Lots of blind spots) Had to replace a stabilizer bar up front that came loose. This was covered under warranty.

I hesitated buying another Chrysler product because of bad experiences with a Plymouth Acclaim. The only reason I went with a 2001 Grand Caravan was because it had more space than a Winstar and the fact that the dealer assured me that the Mercedes influence on the 2001s and beyond had made significant improvements in the design of these minivans. Now having had it for 1 year, let me tell you the truth. Little has been done to correct the nickel and dime repair expenses Chrysler products are known for. I was just told by my mechanic (a good and trusted one who doesn''t work at a Dodge repair shop) that I needed front brakes. I only have 13,000 miles on this vehicle and do not drive it hard! He said the back brakes looked almost new. When I asked why brakes could go out so soon he smiled and said, "typical Chrysler producs" He then told me I will no doubt require new rotors up front before 40,000, typical for Chrysler products. I asked him about the so-called Mercedes modifications. He told me most of those changes won''t go into effect for another 3 years! (His daughter works for Mercedes.) I was mislead by my salesman! I''m very disappointed!

Everything costly on the repair sheet.

Stinky little auto. With less than 33000 miles on this vehicle - it has had several problems. First the stock tires all went at the same time. Then the battery. Now the drivers side window cable and regulator was replaces. So now lest then four years and 33000 miles I have had to spend over 3000 dollars so far Resale value...ha ha that''s a laugh. As far as I''m concerned the Dodge Caravan is a lost cause and should be avoided at any cost. It will only give you grieve.
