Strength:

Plenty of room , very reliable engine, not too many squeaks

Weakness:

Cleaning the EGR valve, Fuel filter every 20-25k, Gas mileage is not impressive but what can you expect when you basically have a box going down the road.

I have had very good luck. 189,000 miles. Only replaced alternator at 93k, fuel pump at 115k, idler arms and water pump-188k. Only problem is the EGR gets clogged and needs to be cleaned. The engine really runs rough when this occurs especially when idling. Engine is extremely reliable and durable. I am buying another one in 2003. Hopefully, they haven't changed too much and have improved some of the complaint parts. Overall, I give the 94 Astro an excellent rating for reliability.

Strength:

great looks ,lots of room, awd ,lots of power

Weakness:

passenger side needs a little more leg room.transmission shifts a little rough.

we love this van. it is the perfect alternative to fill the gap between a mommy mobile and a huge full size van. we have the awd version which is a must in chicago.the word is that chevy will drop this van in 04,we are hoping that is not the case. we would definately buy another one.

Strength:

The most power, seating and towing capacity available in an AWD van at a copetitive price. Dutch doors, rear AC (when it works) Good forward traction in the snow and rain.

Weakness:

15/19 mpg. Alot of failing parts. Poor brakes-ABS makes it feel like it is not going to stop. Poor costruction. Dual sliding doors not available. Poor resale value.

Problematic since the purchase. Needed a battery at 5000 miles. Needed a muffler at 8000 miles. Needed an alternator at 50000. Has always felt like it needs to be alligned. ABS is very scary. Feels like the brake is too hard. Wears out tires, brakes and idler arms quickly. Lots of engine and power trane noise as well as rattles and squeaks. EGR problems. AC compressor needs to be replaced again for the third time. Heater fan speed switch only works in high position. The poppets in the throttle body were leaking causing a rich fuel condition and the unit had to be replaced $700. Window motor burned out. And most recently the alternator bracket has cracked 3 times in the past 5 months. No one has a clue as to why that is happening. Fortunately there have not yet been problems with the transmission, front or rear differentials or the cooling system. Now has 106K miles. Overall disappointed in this vehicle. Looking forward to replacing this vehicle soon.

Strength:

Lots of seating, can pack 5 women and their gear to go to the lake. High up seating (king of the road)

Weakness:

Back window hard to see out of. Tough for a 16 yr old to learn how to drive.

This is our first van. Originally bought to pull a tent trailer. Love the space! Kids have their own bench seat to laydown when travelling long distance. Lost power at 54,000km on highway due to secondary ign. shorting. Brake pads at 57,000km. Had a problem with wearing outer part of tires and had to replace the idler arms at 77,000km. The worst problem I had was no acceleration at high speeds especially if the engine was warm. I found out the catalytic converter was plugged due to the fuel running "rich", also as a result the muffler had to be replaced. I was looking at these reviews to see if anyone else had this problem because my mechanic told me there is no warning or way of checking up on the catalytic converter. Also had to replace the rear door handle broke off in -25C. Other than that I am the popular mom to carpool kids home from school because of the ability for 7 to pile on in.

This was my second new Astro the other was a 93 model. I like the fact it's got plenty of power and rides like a car. If you can't justify the additional gas due to more power and plenty of space this ones not for you. I've had no problems and would recommend the Astro to anyone. I've seen families of five on vacation using the Ford and Chrysler models and they look like their in a sardine can, not with the Astro.

There's not one I haven't driven but if you're going to use a van for it's intended use with 5 or 6 people this ones hard to beat.

Strength:

Dependable, lots of room

Weakness:

High Maintenance

I like my van, but the repairs lately are to much. It only 57962 miles and I have had to replace the front brakes twice, new water pump and numerous oil changes. It is dependable, and great room for the family and camping gear.

Strength:

-Very comfortable riding on long trips especially -love the rear air feature -okay sound -tons of room for families

Weakness:

-minor things that go wrong (basically routine fixes) -takes a lot of gas

This is our second astro and we love it! Our first was a 1994 which we drove for 5 years. We had no problems with it at all, except that we didn't like the middle bench seat and that it didn't have rear air. The one we have now has Captains chairs and rear air and is loaded. It has been wonderful...we've only had to replace the breaks once, and it has 110,000 miles on it now.

This is the 3rd new Astro Van that I have had the first two were great but this 1998 has been awful....The door locks quit working.. the power window on the driver side will go down but when you try to put it back up... It goes in little spurts you have to wait 30 seconds push the button again and so on until it goes all the way up. Part of the lights on the radio went out just a bunch of little aggravating things.
