Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

Strength:

Turbo torque,solid ride,exterior styling, 17 in. wheels,quality materials

Weakness:

None so far

This car brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. The turbo just pulls and pulls. Interior materials are top quality and the ride with the sport suspension is quite comfortable. Rock solid construction with no rattles. I've only put just over 3,000 miles on this baby but I'm hoping VW has addressed all the problems of earlier models. This car is a poor man's BMW!

Strength:

Fun to drive; you will get a nice polite letter from VW if you write to them but they will not do anything about your complaints!

Weakness:

Expensive to maintain/ repair; bad customer service; v. poor construction.

From being the 'people car' this is now an expensive european car. I have owned 3 VW's before this and I will never buy another one. There is almost nothing in terms of simple maintenance you can do by yourself - The driver-side headlamp went out. It cost me an hour in labor to replace it as the entire battery unit had to be first removed!(cost,$40). Other problems have included; Battery replacement.(~$200). Alternator replacement(~$700). The passenger door has never shut and after multiple visits it was decided to be a design flaw in this model. Dampners placed while transporting the car on trucks was never removed from one side until i noticed a heavy drag and drove it back to the dealer. This is just a taste of the issues I have had.

Poor, poor, poor quality. Expensive parts and service. Minimum $80 just to diagnose a problem.

Jetta = Poor Quality Car. There's a sad repetition to the commments from frustrated Jetta owners here. My Jetta has cost me in excess of $3000 in unexpected repairs. Three quarters of that comes from the window regulators. VW has issued a recall on them, but my warranty has expired. I've replaced every single window regulator at a cost of $300 a pop. The car is fun, but not worth the hassle. I don't recommend you buy one. In the meantime, I've joined a class action against VW of America.

the best car I have ever driven. The 1.8T gives it the edge I need for driving in Germany. The only option needed is a sunroof.

Strength:

Other than the problems, it has been a very comfortable and reliable car.

Weakness:

Perhaps if the the Jetta's had a transmission that required regular mainteance, there wouldn't be as many problems.

I was hoping to have this car for 10 years before getting back into car payments. Well I made it to 5 years. The car pretty much has been a piece of you know what. The warranty expired before one year due to miles (my fault). The cruise control broke at one year. Second year I started having problems with the starter (only during the warm and hot months. Not winter months. Go figure). Third year the cassette player broke for no apparent reason. Fourth year my speed-o-meter broke and transmission started giving trouble (slipping - and again only during the warm/hot months). Fifth year transmission slipping so bad - turns out I need a new one - $4,000 to replace. Mechanic said he has been seeing this a lot with other Jetta's around the same age. So many other minor things wrong since I bought it. Mostly electrical and things that haven't affected the way it drives, just very, very annoying.

Honda, which I will stick to. We replaced the two cars because our family just outgrew them. If we waited until they broke down, we would never have had to buy another!

Service Department!

Appears after reading all of these reviews the service department is a big problem everywhere. When I purchased my Jetta, the people seemed to be fairly polite and my first vist to service(radio quit playing after owning for 1 week & car just not running good) was a pleasant experience even though their "shuttle" was a service man driving another small jetta. Then after calling into service the second time (car still not running good) they suddently weren't as polite and welcoming. Why doesn't VW (if they even care) do something about their customer service.

I purchased the car so I would have reliable transportatione but what I received was a car that scares the "hell" out of me. The problem is, it suddently dies while I am driving it without any warning. Trouble is it's always when I am pulling out into traffic. I have taken it to my VW dealer in West Houston but they said they couldn't find anything wrong which I feel is awfully strange since I certainly experience it. I have decided to take it to another VW dealer that seems to be more helpful. Just wodering if anyone else out there has had a similar experience with a 2002 Jetta. When I say the car dies it actually acts like it's suddently not getting any gas which presently only last for a few seconds but in that few seconds I could be involved in a bad car crash!

VW is good: at deceit, lying, and totally screwing everyone out of hard-earned money!!

Weakness:

Rediculously horrible quality.... take the tequila off the assembly line in MEXICO (yes, built in mexico)!! So much for "fine german engineering"....

ABSOLUTE PIECE OF CRAP!!! This car has had the following go wrong with it. 1) windshield wipers die 2)ignition coils 1st time 3)radio breaks...took 41 days to replace 4)ignition coils blow second time 5)door lock broke 6)ignition coils blow for THIRD TIME (that's right, THREE FULL SETS of ignition coils go bad) 7)sunroof piece fell on me 8)windows roll down on their own. 9) rattles like a 20 year old ford. There is too much more to explain. VW lied to me over a dozen times, and I have documented evidence to prove it. I had recently won a lemon law case against VW through the BBB. Up to and including the day of the hearing, VW maintained that my car was FINE. DISHONEST, DECEITFUL, MONEY-HUNGRY, LYING, CHEATING, STEALING. By far the worst company I have ever dealt with in my entire life.
