i love this car. seriously, i would marry it if it were leagal in CA. just don't tell my human fiance about that. it is expensive to fix, but considering i got a non salvaged slc w/70,000 miles for 6,000, i guess i shouldn't complain. i know you are not supposed to take advantage of the elderly but they sold it to me, so it's not my fault. this was my dream car when i had my scirocco. now i have it and will never, ever sell it. Strength:

big zoom, little cash

Weakness:

little stuff, self-destructing: wiring harness, foglight lenses, top hose, and probably supercharger and some previous shoddy repairs/neglect.

have put 8000 miles on this car in 4months. was able to fix all small nagging problems myself. i can't begin to describe how fun it is to drive, on both straight and also curvy roads, there is probably a large traffic ticket in my future. if treated with care and regular preventive maintenance, i don't see why it won't last forever, at least longer than me. no space for a family, but all that weight might take some of the fun out of driving it(g60 anyway)

Awesome handeling, Cool styling, Lots of power and great interior

Weakness:

Expensive to fix!!

I have always driven old muscle car with the exception of a few. I just love the way that the car handles it's awesome when people slow down to 50km/h to take a corner and I can hit it at 100+ no problem. I was really suprised the first time I drove it I had no idea that a 2.8 v-6 could perform this well. The only way I'll sell it is if they come out with a new one. If your on a very limited budget don't buy one because my first repair bill was in excess of 500 aftyer only owning it for 4 months.

Strength:

Engine strong from low revs (190bhp),
neutral handling,
I like the cockpit,
looks fabulous,
acceptable ride,
grin factor.

Weakness:

I broke a gearbox!
You must ensure tyre pressures are correct else handling suffers badly.
Door handles can brake.
Seats fall apart.
Very poor lights.
Suspect oil coolers.
Expensive running costs.
Sunroofs leak.
Fuses blow.

A coupe need not be practical or cheap to run, that somehow misses the point, they should be about joy, they should make you grin on the way to your boring job and nothing (while driving a car) makes me grin more than a Corrado. Well OK, I cant afford a Ferrari! In the UK, Corrados are not all that rare for the UK was their biggest market importing around 10,000.

Similar Products Used:

All cars are a compromise and with the Corrado VR6, I believe VW produced the best balanced coupe ever made in its market sector. Its a shame that the cars VW/Audi thought could replace it (Audi A3 & TT) don’t compare in the all important handling & fun areas being in comparison extremely dull to drive. I've drive faster cars but none more fun.

Strength:

It looks great and the fact that its very rare makes me never wanna let this car go.Its got what people say a "timeless" look to it cuz my car is 10 yrs old and still i get looks left and right when i drive it.

Weakness:

Almost everything about the car is no good exept for the engine and the looks .Everything else but the engine i believe have been replaced or wiil be in my car. The repair cost are also shocking! I could be making monthly payments towards a new car every month with what i spend on maintenance with my baby.....but its ok .....nobody said love didnt hurt!

The corrado is a classic, i would never think of selling it. If your thinking of getting 1 make sure that its not modified nor abused by the owner. The corrado will give you years of enjoyment if properly maintained and guaranteed it will give you a sense of uniqueness that is unparalelled . Ive had my baby for over 7 years and i still get alot of people asking me "what kind of car is that?" and that just puts a grin to my face.MAINTENANCE,MAINTENANCE AND HIGH REPAIR COST! is what you should consider if your thinking of owning one of this rare classic sports car.My girlfriend once gave me an ultimatum.......your corrado or me?.....i stll have my baby and i got a new girl!

Strength:

Very Unique, Surprisingly Fun and spacious, Luxurious, and did I mention Fun? This car has bites all over it. It's a CULT car. Once you get into one, you're never leaving. I think we call it "UNCONDITIONAL LOVE".

Weakness:

Weak Alternator (Not enough to properly power the After Market Stereo System and all accessory). The VW Quality including their Quality Service! (being sarcastic there). Like many whom had testified, this is a high maintainance car. Be prepared with $$$ for maintainance. Or if you're smarter, start modifying it with top quality parts. Preferably not VW parts, get durable aftermarket parts, or custom it yourself. Don't go to VW Dealer to have it service - unless they are doing it for free - even then approach with caution. Search for a good VW/Audi Tuner, they work with love. VW Dealers are too busy fixing VW problems to do it right, or even care. Beware, if you do take it to VW Dealer, stay by your car's side all the time. Be warned, they will take it for a "test run". Mine is an odd ball VW. Instead of Overheating, it's UNDERHEATING! It's never over heated - and I've taken it for 4 Hours straight going consistently between 120-140MPH. Engine never complained about overheating. Oil Temp never passed 250 Farenhiete, Coolant was always under 170 farenhiete. And takes forever for it to warm up to suitable driving temp (in the summer). Always a little work here and there, but with the "UNCONDITIONAL LOVE" variable, it's all cool.

This baby whines for attention, so just give it attention. But when it comes to performance this car kicks most Japs, except the 97+ Prelude V-Tec, Integra Type-R, Honda S-2000, and Integra NSX. But then again, this is a STOCK FOR STOCK comparison. With Super Charger and other Mod, this car can do 650+ HP at the wheel. But you'll have to get the quiaf differencial to harnest that power.
Over all, if this car wasn't love at first sight, then don't bother, you're not going to enjoy it. Look into the VR6, not the G60 unless you plan to do extensive modification. Have some extra to bring it to almost new condition. Be prepare to keep it forever.

Strength:

Fast, good midrange. Unique. Chicks dig it.

Weakness:

Unbelieveably unreliable.

The speed of this car is really not worth it. It is insanely expensive to fix, parts and labor are way more than any other car I've ever been around. The car breaks down way too often to deal with the expenses. Not worth the performance you get out of it. Get something else.

IT LOOKS AMAZING!! absolutely adore the car!
best VW of all of them!

Weakness:

None

I just had an opportunity to drive the car when my friend bought it and was somewhat puzzled, It looks great, sound great, feels great, but when i pushed the car a bit harder on the acceleration from a stop, there was no feeling of acceleration. I though the supercharger would have helped but i was really dissapointed. I drive a Volvo 760 Turbo and hell even that thing has more kick than the Corrado i tried.
Could it be the clutch or something else?

I really dont agree that a Ford Mustang GT is similar to the Corrado...Way off there buddy, i drove both and they are NOT the same.

Strength:

Great looks, get lots of compliments on the yellow color. Fast and corners great. (Youd be surprised how often a girl gets hit on for driving a bright yellow sports car - a rare one at that!)

Weakness:

Some electrical problems and locking system problems. I have had problems with the emergency locking system locking and having to manually unlock the doors from the outside(inside doesnt work)and the gas cover locking. The lights are also very dim. Also experienced some problems with the shift kit that is in this car. It broke on me not too long ago. (Insurance is fairly high too)

I would recommend this car if you have the money for the maintenance. I bought my car 3 years ago and I do not want to get rid of it even though it becomes a headache. I have never driven anything like it, that corners and handles like it does. Ive been able to find parts for fairly cheap at used VW dealerships, but I would never take it to a dealership to get fixed. The yellow paint tends to fade over time on the mirrors and the spoiler. The fog light covers and headlights crack, but I have not had the lights being too hot problem, or the battery problems. In the 3 years that Ive had this car i have not had to replace the cluth, brakes, battery, or any major parts. Just plain maintenance that would be on other cars. I had more problems with Hondas than with this car. Buy this car if you want something rare and fun, and have the money for parts and fixes, but dont buy it if you do not want to pay for high $$$ maintenance.

Strength:

The build quality, solid looks, ergonomics, speed, engine, handling, engine sound, uniqueness, versatility in varying driving conditions, etc.

Weakness:

Nothing really.

I would recommend buying a Corrado VR6. I hear about reliability problems, but this seems to come mainly from 92 and earlier models. If you're shopping for a fairly inexpensive preowned hot hatch, this car is unique and has character, and will get you around a fast S curve or to the ski slope or downtown for a nice dinner! The appearance really holds up over the years...

Similar Products Used:

In the 20K hot hatch category back in the early 90's, nothing compared to the Corrado VR6.
