Strength:

gas mileage incredible, small easy to manouver thru other vehicles. Many spaces in the vehicle (roomy). It attracts alot of attention.

Weakness:

No-Clock,when driving at average pace, and with speed you can hear the loud wind (It's kina annoying). The tray under the passenger seats tends to pop out, even at the smallest stops. It would be nice if they had lights where the rear view mirror is...(like on the toyota celica, or 4runner the 2 small lights). The wind shield wiper only wipes fast or regular pace. It doesn't wipe and pause like most other vehicles have (Which can be helpful when it's drizzling, so you don't always have to turn it on and off after every drizzle). Speed Bumps, and bumps on the road are not the Echos friend.

I purchase my toyota September 2000. I have a 2 door limited addition. I love the car only because of the great mileage and that it's small. The car was given to me as a gift, but if I had a choice Re: Echo, I would have preferred the 4 Door.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Echo

Strength:

Exterior: Fun design, bright headlights, turns heads! Interior: Lot's of space, storage, huge trunk, good placing of gauges/buttons/etc., great stock sound system Performance: Gas miliage, Gas miliage, Gas miliage! Handles well, brakes are great, good pickup, top's high speeds well.

Weakness:

This is an economical vehicle, do not expect many items to come standard, i.e. power windows/locks, ABS. On a windy day, handling can be a little shaky, but you quickly get use to how your car handles. Small tires at R14, and while it does fit the style of the car, I'm planning on going up to 16's. I drove a 1999 Chevy Cavalier for a while before my Echo, and it takes bumps similar, a little hard.

Aside from my first *new* car, it stands as my first ever vehicle. I am a twenty year old college student, who commutes to school, work, all over the metro area, and has the road trip bug. After months of searching for a vehicle to fit my needs, a burden had been lifted. I have found the Echo to be a economical wonder that boasts close to 40 mpg, but still a sporty enough treat to satisfy my "speed" tooth. Aware of Toyota's reliability, I jumped at the chance to purchase the car, now aka, lil' black jellybean. Right away I'm taken by it's button-nose design, reveling that I'm able to turn heads. Echo's interior is surprisingly roomy and comfortable, and provides may inovated storage compartments. Less then a mile into the test driving, I was hooked on the center mounted gauges, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to go back to the traditional mounting. After 6,000 miles, I can still break on a dime, handle it smoothly, and easisly top high speeds with continuing great performance.

Strength:

Excellent fuel economy! (I just drove about 270 km, and my tank is half full!)N Being a teenager I like loud music, and this little car really pulls through on that. When I turn it up, people can hear me coming!

Weakness:

Can't think of any! Great car!

I absolutely LOVE this car! My parents bought this car for me to get back and forth from High School, and eventually University. I was looking at getting a Cavalier before I spotted the Echo, but I'm so glad that I went with Toyota. Their service and products are exceptional!

Gas Milage

Weakness:

The brakes really suck. I have around 90K miles on it. I put about 150miles a day on it during the week and sometimes more on the weekends. I have to replace the brakes every 30K miiles. I thought they were brakes and not oil.

I would not recomend this car to anyone.

Strength:

Trunk is huge and headlights are bright. Lots of cubby holes to store stuff in. 5 cupholders. Good power, and somehow it has the ability to not stall out in 5th gear at 30 mph! Yet can cruise effortlessly at 70+. Amazing.

Weakness:

I don''t think anyone could sit in the backseat when I have the front seat where I like it... Maybe a child, but I don''t think an adult would be comfortable. But then again I didn''t buy it for family use

I love this car! Most recently I got 47 MPG! The car is easy to drive, corners well and is roomy inside. I have the 2 door model (which is the cheapest I could go) and love how easy it is to get into. Other writers comment on it being blown in the wind on the interstate, and I agree, but that is a price I am willing to pay for economy.

Strength:

Price, interior space, overall superb Toyota engineering and reliabilty.

Weakness:

Nothing major. It would have been nice if it came with a tachometer in the instrument pod.

I bought this car primarily for my wife simply as a city commuter car but it is so much fun to drive that I find myself driving it more than I thought I would. Due to physical limitations, my wife needed a car with a higher seating position. The only two small cars with the higher seats were the Echo and the Ford Focus. The Focus is a decent enough car but my research has shown it to be somewhat trouble prone. We opted for Toyota reliability. She also needed an automatic transmission which I thought would sap the power from a small 1.5 liter, 108 HP engine. Surprisingly this car has more than enough power and actually has more horsepower per pound than many larger four cylinder cars (especially those in the Civic, Corolla, Sentra class). The automatic transmission is silk smooth and the car is very responsive on the road. Unlike some of the earlier reviews that mentioned being pushed around on the highway at speed, I have found it to be fairly stable and solid on the highway at 60 - 65 mph. It looks like a small car (which it is)but the interior is quite roomy. The high roofline really adds to the feeling of spaciousness. I was also surprised to see that the trunk is a lot larger than you would think a car of this size would have. It comes fairly well equipped with the standard package, including a four speaker cd player system. We ended up buying one option package with a couple of things we necessarily didn''t want or need just to get intermittent wipers. Those really should be standard equipment or at least available as a stand alone option. This is a minor complaint. We have been getting close to 40 mpg (with the slightly larger Imperial gallon in Canada) which is excellent. One other thing, the instrument pod is located high in the center of the dashboard which took some getting used to. But I now find it to be so natural that I have trouble getting used to my own car (Honda Accord) after having driven the Echo for a few days. The fit, finish and overall engineering of this car is first rate. The Echo is built in Japan (at least Canadian models are, I don''t know about US models) and the reliability has been fully up to Toyota standards. I expect that we will be driving this car for many, many years. Overall, this might just be the perfect city commuter car, especially when its price & reliability are factored in to the equation.

Weakness:

This car is so much fun to drive and even though it looks so small it has so much room and storage. It''s my first car and I love driving it. Great gas mileage and a awesome six speaker system. Comfortable and lots of leg and head room for a tall person. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants to save on gas or just have a great car at a great price.

Strength:

Great gas milage! Lots of interior room and storage. Large trunk. Spunky engine.

Weakness:

Exterior styling is a bit funky, but grows on you with time.

I drive the LA freeways to work 70 miles round trip every day. This car is a pleasure to drive. Handles great and the brakes are excellent. They have saved my butt a few times! You can''t beat the gas mileage.
