STINKS ON CERTAIN DAYS VERY NAUSEATING ROTTEN EGG SMELL AND TOYOTA WON'T REPLACE CAR.

Had been pleased with car but in feb 2002 noticed a rotten egg smell. Dealer said it was gas quality and only thing to do would be search gas stations unitil found one that gas did not make car stink. Dealer ship unable to correct problem, call toyota company whose policy is that since it is a local gas quality problem they will not do anything about it. If I had know I was buying a car that smells this bad depending on where I by gas I would not have purchased it. I am still pursuing up the company chain of command to try to get this problem resolved, I feel toyota should replace the car since I was not told about this problem when I purchased it and the extended warranty is not helping this problem either. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA PRODUCT UNLESS THIS IS RESOLVED TO MY SATISFACTION.

Strength:

-Eco-friendly -Great gas mileage -Interior room -Trunk space -City parking -Ease of handling -CD player

Weakness:

-A little light, but you get used to it. (Some advice: put a 50 pound bag of salt or sand in the trunk to give it a little "weight.")

Bought this used four-door(4,500 miles) in April 2002 as a replacement for my 1992 Geo Prizm, which was starting to show its age. My Echo is fairly loaded--automatic, air, CD player. As I drive less than 6,000 miles a year (I live in a city with a good mass transit system), I wanted value, quality, reliability and good gas mileage. I definitely did my homework beforehand and, so far, haven't been disappointed. It's a very practical car and--this is totally subjective--I think it has a sleek Euro-look.

Strength:

Nippy acceleration Good low end torque for class (revs to 7000rpms ppls!!!) Handling prettty ok i reckon, just dun go round corners too fast unless you have bigger wheels) CHeap PETROL!!! good for students and tree huggers Dashboard Unique Best in the subcompact class after jazz Will kick the sh*t out of korean compact cars (i HATE those)

Weakness:

well, if your a guy, prepare to be teased Not a racing car Sometimes you get static shock dunno why but it seems to only happen with echos Slow compared to sports cars ( but thats not really a weakness :p)

My parents got me this car to learn driving with, and I must say its a very good manual car. It's so easy to shift and the clutch is soft, both of which can be attributed to the fact that this car car is designed with you little ladies out there in mind. Well, being a guy, I still have not many complaints about this car. Its pretty fast with vvt-i and mine is only 1.3L yet it can keep up with a camry!!. Fuel consumption is way out and I think 1-100km/h times are pretty decent 11.9secs i think.., so you can easily leave hyundai excel, daihatsu charades, daewoos and the odd ford focus in the dust!! not bad for a little wee car.. Love the unique electronic dashboard and the spaciousness of the interior, the styling is also very european and it looks very cute, sort reminds me of a little high tech space pod. Only problem is that friends give me sh*t about me being a guy driving an echo, but for you ladies out there, this car is way out! Me, I'm getting a celica but rest assured that the echo is a really good car to get..

Strength:

Fuel Efficient, Good managablity, lots of space, good speakers, lots of head room.

Weakness:

needs new tires when you buy it, little engine, pretty much everything in the front part of the car like the grill and stuff is plastic.

I love my Echo. I got it for my 16th birthday and I've had it a little over a year now, I see older people driving it around alot but to me it looks like a teen car. It drives great and it saves me on gas. I got new tires for it and it does drive better since i did that. But i've wrecked it once and i got it fixed and still runs like new. I would recommend this car to lots of people. I love the shape of it I think its cute for a car, its different and I like difference.

Strength:

toyota quality, good ride, fun to drive, lots of storage spots, great stock sound system

Weakness:

at high speeds with crosswinds this car gets pushed around...but hey, in every other situation this car is freakin' perfect

I didn't like the first echo design, but the new one is just off the hee zee fo shee zee. In other words, it looks really good. Plus you can get vitals like power windows and keyless entry. This car drives really well (its a toyota, duh), is quiet, and has great fuel economy. Also there is a lot of space inside.

Strength:

Cheap Roomy Fuel Efficient Reliable Powerful (for its class)

Weakness:

It looks like a deformed dung beetle. At high speeds (85+) it feels like it might just take off and fly away (upgrading the tires really helps). Oh and did I mention it's a nasty looking car?

Ok, it's a nasty looking thing, it really is. They perked the looks up a bit on the new model, but I still think it looks nasty. Now once you get past its looks and are able to admit this car was designed by a Japanese animator on crack you will find a very powerful, cheap and fuel efficient car. First thing you should do is get new tires; it will make a BIG difference. It handles great and can maintain speeds of over 85mph for a prolonged period of time (and still be fuel efficient!). The inside is HUGE compared to the cars exterior size. The center mounted display console is great, and now I can't stand the regular ones, however apart from fuel and speed it doesn’t tell you much more. The acceleration is pretty decent (automatic) and like another person said; if you’re going up hill turn OFF the over drive and it will fly right up the hill. I’ve seen used Echoes like mine with about the same mileage going for $12,000!

Strength:

appearance, value, comfort, economy

Weakness:

very few weaknesses

the first new car i've bought in 12 years. the 2003 model is improved in looks, it's very nice looking. lots of room inside i got the electric green mica, really lovely color. the engine is quiet the automatic with overdrive shifts almost seemlessly. very comfortable seating, i'm 5' 10" and sit quite upright and still have headroom. the mileage is excellent. visability is great. the standard dual outside mirrors, trunk and fuel door release, multiple storage nooks, tilt wheel, all make an exceptional deal. as options i got ac, rear window defogger, power steering, and after driving a standard tranny for 12 years went with the auto. i'm very happy with this car. the only things i would nit pick about would be the driver's sun visor won't stay all the way forward, the rear view mirror blocks my vision a little as i turn right, and the arm rest on the door could be a little wider, but like i said that is searching for something to complain about. overall don't know how i could be happier with the car.

gas mileage, head room, the backseat is much roomier than it looks, speed ometer location

Weakness:

None besides going uphill kind of slow

I really love this car. My friends call it the bubble car. My family and I have owned several toyotas; a 92 Corolla, 99 Tacoma, 00 Celica. The only one that had any faults was the Celica. The echo gets great gas mileage and seems to run pretty smooth

Strength:

A lot of head room. Nice circulation vents. Fairly cheap. Lots of storage space.

Weakness:

Unreliable. Repeated breakdowns. Gets less MPG than shown. Cheap plastic interior. Doesn't REALLY have remote adjustment mirrors. Lots of road noise. Cheap plastic moldings fall off exterior. Toyota Corp refuses to stand by its product. A big mistake to buy. I thought I was buying Toyota reliability, but I am nothing but disappointed.

Overall, it's not a very good car. Shortly after purchasing the car, the body moldings were coming off and the trunk release kept breaking. Toyota fixed the problems with the moldings, but can't come up with a permanent solution to fix the trunk, and they want to charge me for it. (I've been in at least 8 times for the same problem!!!) My experience is that my car is a lemon and I would not recommend this car to anyone. A person would be better served with a Honda Civic, Ford Focus, VW, or Hyundai Accent.
