Strength:

-180 HP
-8,000+ Redline
-Cornering and Agility
-Economy when you need it
-Looks to kill
-6 speed tranny
-Knowing I own one of the best compact sports cars out there

Weakness:

-Low torque in the bottom end
-Cop Attractor...I have been stopped 4 times
-Stock tires wore out quickly
-Cheap plastic scratches easily

Mine is a lease, but the value is about 23K. Up until a few weeks ago, I was in love with my Celica. Right now my car is in for repairs on the clutch and the transmission. It seems that some Toyota builder didn't build my 2nd gear synchro quite right, and it broke, ruining my transmission gears. The clutch throwout bearing was also toast, FYI to all those who want a Celica: they are awesome cars, but beware the 6 speed, as it does take practice to shift well. Celica 6 speeds before 1/2000 have a noted shifter spring problem, making mis-shifting easy to do. Toyota has already replaced about 140 engines because of this. Newer production Celicas have this problem solved, so as long as yours was built after January 2000, you should have no problem

Similar Products Used:

89 Toyota Supra, 86 Mazda RX-7, 90 Ford Probe: none of my previous cars even comes close to the Celica, except for my Supra, when it came to top speed. The celica loses it's majestical properties when running REALLY fast.

Strength:

I like the exterior-especially the front end. The stereo is impressive, and my car has excellent gas mileage. I also like how fast it goes and how sporty it looks.

Weakness:

I hate the blind spots and the interior of my car gets easily marked and th inside of my car gets reall hot.

My sticker price on the car was 19 something. I got everything I need, though. (Power windows/locks, tape, CD, etc.) I would definitley recommend this car to anyone that wants a sporty car that will last a lifetime with a good price.

Mitsubishi Eclipse RS (1999)-Pretty good comparison, but the Celica has been around a lot longer, and I wanted something new and I found the 2000 Eclipses unimpressive looking.

Strength:

Strong 2.2L v-4 engine, is able to go in a hurry. Has not had a major repair in the 9 years we have had it.

Weakness:

It is a low car, and can be hard to get in or out of if you have a back problem like I do. A lot of road noise enters the cabin

In '91 we got this for about 6,000 w/30,000mi. It now has 80,000 mi and is still going strong. The A/C is very fast, and the heater will burn the hairs off your legs if your not careful! Only routine repairs have been done on the car (tires, exhaust, battery, etc...) Very dependable car. We have had 2 Toyotas and both have had no major repairs. This car has some rust in spots on it, but I live in WI so that is expected especially for a 15 yr. old car. No hesitation w/buying any Toyota product including this Celica.

Strength:

There are so many things I like about this car! The sporty cockpit like interior makes you feel like a part of the car. The tight suspension makes you feel like you're on rails going around the curves. All of the controls are easy to reach so you dont have to fumble around while driving. The smooth transmission makes gear shifting a breeze. The stereo is also very nice providing exceptional sound and bass. There are so many other nice features, but the ones I listed stick out the most to me. OH, I almost forgot my number one reason I love this car! The looks you get from the women! Im sure its the same way for you women Celica owners :)

Weakness:

One weakness I found is the visibility out the rear. The spoiler prevents a clear view out the rear window. Also, the door walls are almost shoulder high on me. It makes it difficult to check blind spots.

I would definately recommend the 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S to anyone who wants a thrill while driving. Tip: I decided to see if I could buy my car over the internet. I emailed the dealer from their website and they sold me my car for 5% over invoice! So my $24,000 car cost me around $21,000.

I was debating on getting a Ford Mustang. I test drove the Mustang and was very impressed. A couple of weeks later, I test drove the Celica. I immediately fell in love with the Celica. The handling on the Mustang felt a little "looser" than the Celica. Celica is awesome!

Strength:

Incredible style outside and inside, excellent ergonomics. It has the best 5-speed manual shifter of all japanese cars. Great seats. A lot of trunk space in a small car. the best handling in it class.

Weakness:

It has the most torquey engine out there but obviusly not much because of it small engine. Better by far than civic's and integras.

Great car. The best japanesse pocket rocket today. It out accelerates civic's and integras. The styling is evident of a 2,000 car not the boring boxy looking cars that are in this market. The best thing that money can buy in this group. A lot of car for the money.

Similar Products Used:

I have driven civic's and integras and this car easily excell the dinamics of those cars. It has more handling, more torque and more good looks than those cars. The best in the class by far.

Strength:

The aggressive exterior look.
The really stylish interior
Really... just about everything in the car.
One thing people should understand is that TOYOTA makes amazing cars. The resale values are great. If you live in a big city like i do, you notice cars a lot and one thing i notice is that there are a lot of OLD TOyotas on the road today... that says a lot. The quality and workmanship of these cars is in my oppinion is unsurpassed :) I love mine 200% :)

Weakness:

At first, I didn't like that that interior was soo easily scratched... "sensative skin interior" as I call it. This was however resolved when i added a coat of protectant and then everything was wonderful :)

I have a Silver GT AUTO with everything
Moonroof,
Power Everything
All weather pack (rear wiper, fog lamps etc)
Alloys
The car has everything except ABS brakes (which i actually didn't want)
I got it for $18750 with taxes, tags, deluxe keyless entry/alarm.

Strength:

Awesome mid to high end torque and power. The engine growls like a V8, and the VVTL-i music gives you an instant shot of adrenaline. Great handling. Looks that turn heads everywhere you go. Interiors of a real sports car. Seats amazingly comfortable (front). Ridiculous fuel economy for a sports car (32 - 34 MPG on highway, tested). Insurance isn't as high as other sports cars. 6th gear is a bliss. Toyota quality.

Weakness:

Low-end torque could use some help. VVTL-i kicks in at 6000 RPM, if lower it could help a lot in the low to mid range. Door panels scratch too easily.

If you're within the crowd trying to find an Integra Type-R, I suggest you test drive this car first, the looks alone will probably convince you (although the rest will justify the decision even more). After break-in period, you will find yourself looking for an open road to pull the tach to 6000 RPM every time (the VVTL-i transition is as good as a non-Turbo engine boost can get).

Curvy road signs will definitely make you smile on this car! It's so much fun when you can take a 30 MPH (yellow sign) turn at 65 MPH, and still feel in complete control of the car.

If you're on a budget and don't mind the performance differences, you should consider a GT model, not a bad car at all. But for those of you who can afford it, and have a lead-foot, the GT-S is a must.

Styling. Good gas milage. Excellent fit and finish. Excellent front seats. Plenty of HP. Excellent brakes.

I would highly recommend this car to anyone who likes sports coupes. I'm 57 years old and still have a lot of fun with this car. I just can't believe that they can get so much HP and torque and still get over 30 mpg.
Toyota fit and fininh is flawless.
As I said my only negitive comment is that they used too much plastic. Door panels and dash. I would have paid a little more for higher quality materials.
