none found yet, I love this car ths has to be the greatest all around car I've ever drove. we have a rally track here and we race all the time. My old honda civic wouldn't take the turns well enough to do very well.so i looked around for a good fast car but could handle turns and found the wrx. I for one really like the look. the interior does look a little cheap but not as bad as most of the other reviews say.when i took it to the track it was instantly a winner even as it was a stock car. then i've started to get a lot of challenges out on the country stop lights and have blown all competitors away. yeah, gas milage...but this isn't a grocery getter! Luxuries (no avail. heated seats, leather, sunroof, gps, yadda yadda yadda) I have owned a WRX for 8 months now and offer the following: I am 40 and have been fortunate to have owned or driven many turbo and or sports cars. I have never LOVED a car before....but this car is so much fun, goes fast without modification, handles like it's on rails....and does it in ANY conditions. There is NO car like this out there. Even the new mitsi evo-7 lacks the soul and fun factor of the WRX. Blows the doors of my '99 Audi A4 2.8 Quatro (first OEM dunlops then conti's)...but of course it's not as luxurious. If you put 17 inch wheels with max performance tires on the wrx people will think you're on more than starbucks and prozac! Fast with great handling.

Poor gas milage unless you drive it like granny. All other cars on the road seem to be in your way as you're trying to have fun! This is a fun car! It defies the laws of physics when it takes corners. The car feels solid and performs as promised. I bought it durring a harsh Western New York winter, and it handles great on slippery roads. I got the upgraded speakers and the sound is clear and loud. I've read some complaints about the interier. Hey this isn't a luxury car, it's a performance car. If you want luxury, buy something else. If want to have fun driving, buy this car. Similar Products Used: There are no others like it. |

Strength:
-Powerful engine -modifications can easily make the WRX go 300hp (ECU change-16psi boost, exhaust, intake) -world rally blue paint (bootiful) -street car killer!
Weakness:
-Seats don't look racing enough -no sunroof -ugly look when stock -for the price, i want more than just the damn engine... I didnt like the WRX when it first came out, totally disgusted by its lookz.. Last month i had to decide whether to purchase a WRX, prelude, or Celica gt-s... I test drove the gt-s.. very fast and totally sexy car, it had that gigantic spoiler and gunmetal rims..the gt-s can get any girl on the streets... than came the prelude.. i did not think that car was fast at all, pretty slow until youhit like 6500rpm.... for the prelude to be fast, it would require massive modifications.. Than I test drove te 2003 WRX.. very fast!!... seriously!!... after 4000rpm.. the turbo kicks in!!... blow me back!... the handling is superior aswell..... so my list narrowed down to GT-S and WRX... good looks? not to mention the girls haha... or pure speed??.. yea yea.... i went for the speed instead!... and i don't really regret!... cause i can smoke almost all the cars on the streets (with exception of porsches, M3's etc etc)..yea... about the looks... i modified my car's appearance.. got a front bumper lip, side skirts painted, STi headlights so far... the car looks beautiful now and can get chicks! haha... so iam happy with it!!... the interior is alrite... i prefer more racing appearance seats... when you sit on them.. they feel very racing, but the look of them is sorta cheap...overall teh car is beauty!! in canada it snows... works like a charm! WRX
Strength:
Accceleration that makes you want to whoop with joy; superb composure and poise, surprisingly quiet, at any speed; amazing AWD handling; very civilised for driving around town; the Subaru "circle of love" - every WRX driver (even EVO drivers!) I have encountered has waved, or smiled or nodded :)!
Weakness:
Gas mileage - I get about 320km for the 60litre full tank, which lasts me about 7-8 days (and I live only 12kms from the office!) I took delivery of my Blue Black Mica WRX roughly two months ago, and believe me, for the past two months, I was either driving the car or I was dreaming about it! I've racked up about 3000km now. I'd always enjoyed driving, but never had the opportunity to experience a car so awesomely capable as the WRX. So much so that I still find myself conjuring up the lamest of excuses to take it for just one more drive. "I'll be back in ten, dear. Honest!" My wife has given up on me and just rolls her eyes nowadays. Exterior/looks: What can I say? Bug-eyes, blister fenders, hood scoop ... you love it or you hate it. I know I hated it when I first set my eyes on it. The car looks much better in the flesh, though, strangely enough. I suppose one must be able to view the lines of the car in 3D to appreciate its purposeful, aggressive, macho (but not overtly so) poise. Yup, it has grown on me. I love the looks now! I have noticed that the paint is pretty thin (especially over the hood) and is susceptible to scratches. The car was delivered to me with very obvious swirl marks all over, and intensive detailing was necessary to get a satisfactory shine out of it. Interior: Most reviews I have seen complain about the interior looking cheap - at this price range, I beg to differ. It's very satisfactory. OK, so I'm not a big fan of leather (gets pretty hot in the afternoon and I sometimes have to park outside for hours) and the way I drive, the standard fabric bucket seats are a godsend to avoid slip sliding all over the place. Steering wheel is excellent at just the right size. Steering column switchgear offers nice quiet clicks. Aluminium drilled pedals are a joy to look at and to use. All centre console controls are within easy reach, and simple to operate. My cupholder doesnt work, though. 6 CD in dash player is great, but the stock speakers sound a bit "boomy" for my liking. Nothing I can't fix with an inexpensive upgrade. The aircon works pretty well, I can drive in cool comfort with the lowest fan setting (at 34 deg C outside!). At 5'11", front seating is comfortably roomy, and my backseat passengers have not complained about lack of legroom either. Overall, the WRX does not stinge too much on quality finishing in the cabin, and I find the interior ambience similar to that of any midrange slightly-less-than-luxury Japanese car, such as the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Driving: There is some turbo lag below 3500rpm, but it does still pull just as well as any 2.0 litre car. Useful around town, where you can just putter around in a most civilised fashion. Let it rev up above 3500rpm, however, and you'd do well to find some empty highway pretty quick. Acceleration is so addictively powerful, and so linear in progression, that it is extremely frustrating to be forced lift your foot off the fun pedal. Gearchanges are slightly notchy, but I find that it gets smoother as I rack up the miles. It does give a precise, satisfying feel, though. My wife tells me the biggest grins on my face are when I am high-revving through 2nd to 4th. I have taken it up Bukit Tinggi Resort, which offers half an hour's worth of tortuously twisty mountain roads, and am truly amazed at the incredible handling. Took all corners with supreme grip and barely a chirp from the tyres. Overall: Simply an absolute joy to drive. With absolutely no problems so far (touch wood) and, judging from feedback from online WRX clubs, very little to be expected in the future, the WRX should be an absolute joy to own for years to come as well. Excellent value. Buy one. Its not that difficult to make up lame excuses to take it out for a spin just one more time! cheap cupholders - yikes! extended armrest always gets in my elbow's way frameless door windows gearshift on manual is imprecise This car is amazing. I've had it 4 months now and have driven it in all conditions. Albany has recently been hit with two majors snowstorms - one dropped 3 feet, the second dropped 2 feet. My car got through it all, leaving everybody else in the "dust." The handling is incredible. Speed is constant and strong. And I love the foglamps - huge and hot! Before the snow, I blew an Acura RSX off the interstate (not literally). This car screams of control and speed. I can't even imagine what it would do with performance upgrades. A well balanced all-rounder; Still wonderful exhaust and engine note; A Rally car you can use day-in-day-out; My wife could use it without much to grumble at ; Reliability;
Weakness:
Rear legroom still abit crampy; Fuel consumption (what do you expect from a turbo-charged car ?) Should have more interior grooming to attract more 'fussy' buyers who are more concern of the 'show' than 'go'. I have owned FWD and RWD cars but never have I owned a AWD.....not even now ! However, I have had a feel of it while paying a visit to a Subaru dealer. I had to confess, it is really great to drive!! Although many may not glance at the looks of the 2001/2002 WRX model for more than 2 seconds, but it will somehow grow on you and one may easily forgive its looks especially after driving it !! It is certainly not easy for Subaru to produce a car which have a blend of : Speed, family-oriented, safety, handling/ride, looks and at the same time still 'fun' to drive.Well, I have been dreaming of owning a Subaru ever since I heard its exhaust and bubbly engine note (on idle) few years ago. I have been also monitoring on almost any car reviews mentioning the word WRX/STI in particular. I especially liked the reviews when an EVO and a WRX/STI is being compared. Well to tell u the truth, more often then not, it is the EVO that gain more points (due mainly to steering feel and speed) but the WRX will gain more respect (due to an overall more compromized package). In my opinion, the WRX is more of a day-to-day-street-racer-cum-family car whereas the EVO is more for the speed demons. If I have to choose between the two, it is like asking me to choose to be a handsome bachelor but with bad breath (...in an EVO) or to be happily married with a very understanding wife (...in a WRX). If for any reasons I have problems on deciding between which role to play, I guess the "Subaru Impreza STI" would put my dilemma to rest.....for now. Weakness:
interior is standard econoline - but the seats are very supportive. Who cares about the interior anyways this car was a BLAST to drive. I'm obsessed with it. I currently drive a 3000GT VR4 with about 350 horsepower with slight mods. It's AWD, all wheel steering, adjustable push button suspension and all the whistles. It'll light the tires on fire and runs low 13's in the 1/4 mile. There's my background. Today i went to the subaru dealer and test drove a 2002 WRX and I was flat out amazed. The car handles exceptionally...feels like an M3...and the AWD pull is amazing for a 4 banger. My salesperson let me dog it real good since i drive a comparable car thats alot faster. I did a 5krpm launch and redline it through 3rd and I was amazed. This car is an exceptional value and I'm selling my 3000GT VR4 and getting this! FAST, AGILE, and a WARRANTY you cant beat! Also, I've never felt a transmission much better than this car, the feel is PERFECT. Similar Products Used: 94 Camaro z28 (300hp), 94 3000gt VR4 (350hp) |

Weakness:
Looks. It's a Subaru. Cant hear exhaust. Too sedan-like. I test drove the WRX wagon and a GTI 1.8T. First a little bit about what kind of driver I am. I was looking for a car that drives like a Porsche 911, with room for my bike in the back and reliability for under $25K. I'm not big on big HP or torque (175 HP and 170 ft# of torque is plenty for me for a car this size). My interests lie in hanhdling and feel (stiff suspension, steering you can feel, an engine you can hear and a clutch and gearbox that feels tight). I looked into but didn't test drive the Acura RSX, the Mini Cooper S, the Ford SVT Focus and a BMW 323. The Subaru WRX is a great car. Not exactly what I was looking for but a great car. It's got lots of power. Even before the turbo kicks in, it's got plenty of power. Hardly any turbo lag. I was a little concerned about driving above 3000 RPM all the time just to be in the power band but it's perfectly happy there. Good handling and a good heavy (German) feel. Suspension is stiff but not stiff enough for me. It has too much travel. Steering has a great feel. AWD feels real good. Good steering wheel. Seats pretty sporty and supportive. Safety and reliability. I'm not crazy about the looks. It has a kind of cheesy boy-racer look to it. My biggest complaint is that you can't hear the engine, although there is an inexpensive upgrade to a performance muffler which is a must. Interior is lame. The seats are too high for a sedan-like feel. Overall it's exactly what I expected. A great car but not as sporty feeling (read Porsche-like) as I'd like, but good in all areas. A bargain at $24K.
